No not At all. Me and my girls. They grew up on Brandi Wells. She from my hometown of Chester. Her music will Always be relevant to me. No matter how old.
Never in a million years would I have thought that "Brandi" had made an actual music video! I'm guessing that WMOT's success with Frankie Smith's "Double Dutch Bus" and that video might have been the impetus. Indeed, very few African-American soul artists not on the mega labels got music videos this early in the eighties unless the hits were "crossover." It's wonderful to see her in her element here. I'd seen a TV performance from this time where she didn't seem quite as at ease! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing!
@retrorhymes awe man. Just seen her in my Right On!Magazines. Heard of her back then but didn't know the song. Was it a big hit? What does WMOT. Stand for? Thanks
@@itz4uWMOT stood for “We Men Of Talent” and was an independent R&B-based label in Philly in the early 80’s. Notorious Philly dentist turned cocaine dealer Larry Lavin (“Doctor Dealer”) bought a stake in the company. After/during his downfall, the label went bust.
My father was Brandi’s attorney for a short time in the early early 80’s. I was only about 9 at the time but will never forget meeting her once. She was so sweet to me. Love seeing these vintage Philly scenes, especially the old style SEPTA buses. RIP beautiful.
@@RebelBuddha1971 thanks for your beautiful story, you re very lucky !! She was so talented and beautiful woman, a real Diva !! I always imagined her like this, sweet... do you have pictures of her to share ? Thanks again bro 😉👍🏼
@@limu013 You’re very welcome! I don’t have any pictures of her, unfortunately, but I have some boxes of my father’s things and will check if he had any photos of Brandi. He was also the lawyer for the Stylistics around the same time, and one of the group’s founding members, Airrion Love, is still a close family friend. A very wonderful guy as well!
@@RebelBuddha1971 thank u very much Shawn that very cool 😊👌🏼 i m a huge fan of The Stylistics too !! Amazing, your father must have great stories and memories ✨️🤩👍🏼
Yea, me too, great post. When I first heard this, apart from it being different from most funk tracks out der, the bass , jumping all over the place like an octopus on acid, on the 12 inch, did me in for real.
Am I the only one still jamming to this in 2023? 💕❤💕
