I was excited to find this how to, but it doesn't show me the important part - what makes the snake come out or the box when it's opened.? There must be a string or other connector. How do you do that?

There is probably a small piece of wood under the lid that catches the hook part of the snake. Just has to sit down far enough to push the snake.

If you pause at 2:47, you can see the position of the string. It looks like it is stapled to the snake and to the inside of the sliding lid.
