    This is death doom at its finest. I wish they would record an album of music as atmospheric, slow, and heavy as this. I love the death doom style through the creative lenses of this band. They take it to new heights that most bands do not reach in the genre. The atmosphere is immense.

      They do have Dum Spiro Spero, which more or less has a lot of death/doom in it.

      @@talkingbredstiks for sure. The album as a whole is pretty heavy though, especially tracks like Decayed Crow. Dum Spiro isn't completely Death Metal but there is certainly influences.

    The fact that you translated the ending line as "humans" instead of "human" like most of the lives are makes the whole tone of the song different. Awesome work thank you so much. I always get excited when you upload.

      This! I like that it was translated as humans. I see this song as a commentary on humans as a whole - the absolute worst of humanity, that humans are capable of doing these horrifying and despicable acts to each other.
      And it's been almost 10 years, but Kyo chanting "humans, humans, humans" at the end still gives me chills...

    I feel like the original tsumi no batsu was that crass kind of "sexy rapist" vibe that's common in japanese media that feels titillating while just being sort of tasteless and vapid. I feel like this versions was Kyo sort of confronting a part of his past he currently looks at with a level of disgust and unhappiness.
    it's like he went "you want a sex criminal? fine. FINE. ALBERT FISH. FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU AND FUCK ME FOR SAYING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE"
    it feels like growth and self critique

    • @User_0188
      @User_0188 6 месяцев назад +1

      Are you trying to tell me that Kyo suffered abuse at some point in his past or are you trying to tell me that the song itself is a complaint against child abuse? I didn't understand.
      & by the way, WHO IS ALBERT FISH?!
      _ps: sorry if my comment is very stupid or doesn't make sense. It's just that I smoked weed a while ago._

    Fuck, this fucked me up. This is like poetry but I've never heard/read a poem so disturbed. And like you guys are saying, it's definitely a commentary on some unspoken shame we all share but often forget -- the terrible evil mankind is capable of. Nothing is really stopping anyone from doing horrible things but morals.
    What really got to me was the imagery the performance and lyrics evoked between 1:40 - 3:00. "Saliva soaks the cement" after "Gang raping a baby" and "With a dry tongue and mouth". That's so powerfully fucked up and disgusting and still so meaningful.

      The English lyrics for Rammstein - Rammstein lol. (I realize I'm just talking to mystupidself. I'm very high. I'm sorry. I'm sorry to me too)
      Rammstein
      A man is burning
      Rammstein
      The smell of flesh lies in the air
      Rammstein
      A child is dying
      Rammstein
      The sun is shining
      Rammstein
      A sea of flames
      Rammstein
      Blood is coagulating on the asphalt
      Rammstein
      Mothers are screaming
      Rammstein
      The sun is shining
      Rammstein
      A mass grave
      Rammstein
      No escape
      Rammstein
      No birds are singing anymore
      Rammstein
      The sun is shining

    I’m confused about how this is a remake, to be honest... it only has the “one sad sexually, two sad sexually” in common with the original, unless I’m missing something? This is such a different band than the dir en grey I loved in high school. This is the first time I’ve come back to them in a long time, and I find myself just not understanding their music anymore. I still love their older music, the stuff I loved as a kid, but this kind of thing I just don’t understand. Is anyone willing to explain to me what the appeal of this is to them? I’m honestly not trying to hate, I would like to understand. I loved dir en grey so much when I was young, but as they changed and got heavier and heavier I just naturally backed off. It wasn’t a conscious decision I made, it just happened without me even noticing. What is it now that keeps you coming back to them? What do you love about this kind of music? I would really love to better understand this genre.

    • @Kohnanichan
      @Kohnanichan 4 года назад +22

      It would help to check out some translated interviews with the band especially Kyo! Kyo has stated recently that he has messages he wants to convey with certain songs and wants to keep updating how those messages are delivered based on the bands current experience level. When a song is updated it’s because he believes it can be delivered better with what they can presently pull off. In this I think it’s also a censorship issue. In the old Ver. Kyo could say some pretty messed up stuff but it was still vague. Now he can get straight to the point of the songs meaning.

    • @jayjooisland
      @jayjooisland 4 года назад +6

      @@Kohnanichan Thank you for your response, and for understanding that I wasn’t trying to hate on the band or the genre! That’s hard to find these days and I appreciate it. I will look up some interviews like you suggested! It makes sense that they would want to update a song if the meaning was being quashed by censorship in the past.

      JJay No problem! I also want to answer your second question that I didn’t see before. For me Dir en grey was too hardcore for me even in the beginning but I got more into them around the Dum Spiro Spero album release. I was going through tough stuff at the time and what caught my attention was the band’s ability to capture emotions I was feeling at the time. What keeps me coming back is that understanding of emotion Kyo seems to have when writing and singing these songs. Not to mention he will do ANYTHING for a good performance even if it hurts him. The dedication and raw emotion this band carries is what brings me back. Kyo has even mentioned before that you don’t need to understand the music to love it. It’s the way it makes you feel that’s important.

    • @jayjooisland
      @jayjooisland 4 года назад +2

      @@Kohnanichan I can totally understand that. There’s a lot of music I love that has done the same thing for me; feeling like an artist can really capture the right emotions at the right time for you, the listener, can be super important. I also totally agree with kyo! I’ve loved jrock since I was a kid, it was my gateway into other types of non-english language music, and I’ve never really spoken a language other than english fluently. Even still, most of my favorite artists don’t sing in english, and I rarely look up lyrics. Often just the way they make me feel is enough understanding for me. That’s how I felt about dir en grey when I was really into them. Even now, when I go back to listen to merciless cult I can see why that was the song that hooked me and kept me a fan for so long.

      I came to this video looking for a comment like this because I felt the EXACT same way. I pretty much stopped listening to them after the marrow of the bone. But this song also isn't supposed to be a "remake" as much as another rendition. On the album vestige of scratches the name is even changed, it's no longer Tsumi to Batsu, it's actually Tsumi to Kisei. Which Kyo does have a fascination with poetry and word-play so this does make sense. Some of their new albums do have songs with that old visual-kei feel. I would check out Arche if you have a chance.
