I love your videos. My Bourbon Red hen, Red, is a notorious biter. She loves to play. Silver, my Blue Slate tom, is a jealous cuddle bug. He gets in between Red and I. He fluffs and drums. Maybe, trying to protect her? Or attract her? ❤️

I just found your channel! We are considering getting some Bourbon Reds to breed ourselves eventually. From your video 9 months back, was your rooster to fat to successfully breed your hens? Where did you purchase fertilized eggs from?
Welcome to the madness!! 😊. Yes, so to catch you up, our ex head tom turkey, Smalls, stopped fertilizing eggs 2 seasons ago. We got hatching eggs from our friends farm. Tried to keep 2 jakes for breeding from that hatch, but Smalls killed one. So the remaining jake, Linus, fertilized all the eggs last season.. then mysteriously died early this fall 😔. So now Doogie and Rogan (Linus's sons) are our new hope for a successful breeding year. We shall see, stay tuned!
How many eggs do these lay a year?
Great question. They start laying in early spring, an egg per day for the most part, with a few days off here and there. Once they get a good clutch together, they may decide to sit on it, in which case they'll stop laying eggs to hatch and raise their babies. If they don't decide to sit, they'll keep laying straight thru summer until they molt in the fall. The hens who did decide to hatch, will raise their babies up to a couple months old, then start laying their second clutch in July. Sorry, not sure how many eggs this equates to.
