Stuff happens. Old things sometimes break.
On October 27, 2023, an unforeseen mechanical issue was identified on
Norfolk & Western Class J 611. While the Queen Of Steam convalesced
through the 28th, a pair of Buckingham Branch GP40s provided the motive
power for the day's excursions between Goshen and Staunton, Virginia.
It was still a great ride.
After riding in the vestibule in Part 1, in Part 2 we take a seat in the ex-Santa Fe dome car prior to our departure for Goshen.
Kudos to the volunteers, crew, and others who had a hand in making these excursions a reality - regardless of the motive power.
