My break in was as follows: Along the nonrepeating repeating long diagonal, all the cells apart from the ones in box 5 must lie or have equivalents in the Phistomefel ring. Therefore, at least 6 different numbers are in circles. However, as there are 21 circles, they must be the numbers 1-6 as 21=1+2+3+4+5+6.
I know it is frustrating to you when you get interrupted repeatedly, Mark, but I think I speak for most of us that we understand and don't mind. And when you share things like your 'road rage' moment with us, it is as much entertainment as is possible while still feeling sympathetic! (Simon's term Schadenfreude comes to mind - sorry!) Regardless, this was a fascinating puzzle and solve, and I loved watching you do it! And January 1st will be a great day - I look forward to a sequel (or prequel?) to the previous Blobz LOTR hunt!
Needed a small nudge from Mark at the beginning, but finished in 19:52 (conflict checker off), add another 5-10 minutes at least for what I missed. 😅 Many thanks to Blobz for a very cool puzzle!

You can also prove that the circles can't include a Seven with the Seven having to be in the R2C2 circle, placing at least an Eight in R2C1. But there can't be an Eight there as there can't be an Eight in the Phistomefel ring.
For me the best way to prove that you cannot use a 7 is to think all the digits in the phistomefel ring must be in circles, so all digits in corners in boxes 3 and 7 are in the Phistomefel ring (and in circles): now you have in the positive diagonal 6 different digits and all of them must be in the circles.
Hah, yesterday RUclips recommended to me a VERY similar puzzle from this channel. Circles almost completely in the "ring" (one missing) and the four squares in the corners (one missing).
WARNING, SPOILER: ... ... ... An easier way (assuming we know Phistomefel righ as Mark mentioned early on) to rule out 7 from circles is that the hypothetical 7 in the circle in box 1 would require at least an 8 on a white dot. This won't work, as per Phistomefel ring it would imply an 8 is on the ring (in a circle) which we can't do. Mark did it the "brute force" way though, using only Sudoku (which he perfectly masters) Also a bit surprised (but maybe not that much given the few interruptions) that Mark didn`t see that the circled 1 had to be in column 7 (was available for a long time), ruling out 1 in all other circles. He would have saved a bit of time ;)
The hunt is the reward - that is, the monthly Patreon reward that comes out on the first of each month. Mark was saying that the January reward will be a new Sudoku-hunt by Blobz.

Yes, this is the way to do it. I didn’t spot it right away, but if you do it’s only a 15 minute solve.

As early as 29:43, Mark missed that the 1 in column 7 has to be in a circle, which eliminates 1’s from any circle not in column 7.
Blobz is one of the funnest constructors - looking forward to the January hunt.
Phistomefel proved twice in one night!
Count 5s in the ring by corner boxes

Announcing the LotR hunt reward the same evening with two puzzles about the phistomefel ring. Magic ✨
20:34 for me. That was breezy, but I most liked the parts where regular sudoku was involved.
I was faster than Mark today - unbelievable!

That was the way I found myself doing it, he run of consecutive digits in b1 was really powerful.
Finished in 26:29 with help from the video.
Fascinating geometry. Thank you *Blobz* and *CTC* for the next sudoku hunt.
Blobz's Lord of the Rings hunt was one of my favourite of the year, only behind Duality II. A follow up to that with 19 puzzles sounds fantastic.

I though I had seen this one before, and clicking the link that I did it in 18:55 sometime ago.

35:55 for me. not bad for 3am
00:37:08
26:48 for me
He gets sooooo close to looking at the 789s multiple times, only to move to the other digits again….
Announcement of the Hunt rather than the reward?

Where’s finkz? Marty sears would’ve posted the next rat run by now.
