    Hi! I'm making a Rosetta cosplay and your tutorial was so detailed and perfect I now have little to no fear about making her rose skirt. It has a lot less petals but I did have one question... how easy is it to sit with that skirt? will the petals crunch or get damaged, because mine are definitely planning to cover me while I'm sitting.

    Clever!!! Watched to the end. Grandaughter having a tea party birthday thought this would be cute for her to wear. Now to make out of materials and finishes that aren't specific for a photoshoot. I think a wearable version can be achieved. Can be done with crinoline for stiffener, 2 layers of fabric and running light weight wire along the edge with a tight stitch serged edge protecting the wire. Split the back petals and hooks and eyes aren't necessary. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 лет назад +7

      Thank you! This is actually a very wearable dress for everyday. ;) I take it out to fairs and festivals for 8+ hour days frequently, and it is very well behaved and easy to have fun in. I would recommend sticking with the heavier wire unless your granddaughter is a toddler because the wires are actually necessary for holding up the shape and pose of the petals.
      When testing with lighter weight wire, petal drooping became a real problem for me as the day went on. Also the back petal split and hooks are super helpful if you want the dress to stay in the right shape with the wires and not have petals droop to the front side. I have an older version of the dress that I did not do that with and everything drags to the front end without the balance of the back end secured clips. I also wouldn't be afraid of using the stiffeners in the petals for the stiffness it has really held up with time! Any time I need to wash a dress when they get too dusty, I take them in the back yard, hose them off, and then allow them to dry out.
      Just thought I would pop my two cents in so that you can learn from my past mistakes. :)

I wanted to make Rosetta from the Tinkerbell pixie Hollow movies and none of the cosplays that were available looked right to me. Check out Damsels in DIY RUclips channel we have a wing tutorial that will work with this dress over there and all you have to do is add fabric slots to the back of a corset or vest so they are strapless. :) But it does take a sewing machine to make them.

  • @Sammo012
    @Sammo012 8 лет назад +4

    When you were sewing the wire into the petals, what foot where you using. I'm making something similar and I'm finding that sewing the wire is the tricky part. Any help would be much appreciated

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 лет назад +1

      +Sammo012 It is generally pretty tricky and no matter what foot you use I recommend you go slow and steady with it. For me I used a general seam foot that has a slight opening down the center of the foot allowing the wire to be mildly guided along.

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 лет назад +1

      +Sammo012 Also, I highly recommend using a manual machine when doing the wire, because computerized machines are more likely to shatter the needle if it gets off placement. Having the control of the needle with your foot will greatly reduce that from happening. On average I break about 3 needles per rose dress.

    • @Sammo012
      @Sammo012 8 лет назад +1

      Thank you for the tips and help. I have a manual machine and have also tried a test run. but found that the cotton will bundle up in the one place. What would you recommend ?

  • @BarbaradeVisser
    @BarbaradeVisser 8 лет назад +2

    I do have a question for the corset: I am not a fan of strappless tops of any kind. Therefore I rather not wear corsets ( I do have one, but I only wear it at special occasions). Do you recommend any other kinds of tops to go with the rose skirt? Thank you very much.

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 лет назад +1

      +Barbara de Visser Hmm, I would suggest using corseting no matter what style the top, but perhaps you could add some capped sleeves to it or even make a small lace up shawl to go over your shoulders and upper arms.

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 лет назад +2

      +KLee Style For my personal project dresses I use recycled and remnant fabrics, so the petals of these dresses where made with a mixture of different kinds. This one included cotton, cotton poly blend, and pure poly woven fabrics.

    Thanks so much for this! I'm going to try and make the skirt for my daughter's halloween costume (the rose from the Little Prince) but use a green body suit and leggings instead of the corset. If I don't paint the petals, would you recommend stiffening the fabric with either a liquid stiffener or a fusible stiffener? Thanks again.

    • @SageandDandy

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 лет назад +4

      You can certainly try! I would recommend a test painting job if you aren't sure you will like the results, you could just make a spare petal out of the left over fabrics and test how it will look on that. Just remember to do the drying process exactly the same on the test, because that can have a big effect on the end results.

    Hello :) Where did you get that big pack of boning?

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 лет назад +1

      +Erika Drummond I buy my boning in bulk orders from this seller: corsetmaking.com/category/corset-making-supplies.html The kind I am using in this video is the steel coated machine washable boning. You might want to finish your corset before ordering so that you can measure for the lengths you will need. I have a supply with every length they sell on hand, but it costs hundreds to keep that around. XP If you are making a dress for medium to petite size body I recommend using the 1/4 inch boning size, if you are building for a large to plus size body I recommend the 1/2 inch boning for extra support. Here is a direct link to the kind I get: corsetmaking.com/category/white-steel-boning.html
