Synopsis:
Can we learn just as much about our political leaders by asking what they will do when they lose an election as we can by asking what they promise to do for our communities when they win?
SEVEN RISING: EPISODE 1: 'THE FINAL QUESTION"
Is a short by filmmaker Paul Grant, where he asks 8 of the 10 candidates who were seeking the District of Columbia Ward 7 Council Seat, to discuss what they will do ‘If I Lose.’ The final question was asked during oral history interviews that were filmed over the last 30 days of what was arguably the most contentious and expensive, democratic primary ever held East of the Anacostia River. Their responses reveal their ambition, passion - and for a few, their tremendous love for this predominantly African American community of 28 neighborhoods in Washington, DC.
Ward 7 voters made their decisions by mail and at the ballot box through Tuesday, June 4th, 2024. However, approximately 24% (12,000) of the 53,000 registered voters chose to participate. The projected winner, Wendell Felder, won by a razor thin margin of only approximately 400 votes.
He will likely become the youngest person to ever hold the Ward 7 council seat after the November general election.
