  • Ever wondered what dotted notes are? I've got you covered in this video! In this drum lesson I'm teaching you about dotted notes and how to read and count them.
    Dotted notes increases a note's value with half of what it's worth, and therefore the note is longer. It's a bit tricky, but I'll walk you through the basic music theory and sight reading of dotted notes.

    You explained it very clearly. It's been several years since I played my drumset and I completely forgot what a dotted note is.

    Part 1 and 2 I was thinking "I see how they do this. It totally makes sense. Part 3 I'm thinking "why do they make this so difficult" lol

    It can be tricky sight reading dotted eigths and quarters together. But it is a good trick to isolate them to keep them tight and focused. Dont play them separately...but read them separately.

    So if a dotted quarter note is equal to one and half note, that means two dotted would take the time of three quarter note. Is that correct?

    I get it in theory, but I find it so hard to implement in practice. I get confused while counting

    • @ThatSwedishDrummer
      @ThatSwedishDrummer  11 месяцев назад

      I totally get that! That's why it's important to practice while counting out loud.
      It might seem tedious, but counting out loud helps your brain focus on doing several things at once. Just like reading a text out loud helps you remember the text better :)

    ...or, we could just write the note however, and still know how to play it

    • @ThatSwedishDrummer
      @ThatSwedishDrummer  5 месяцев назад

      What do you mean?

    • @yoyoz333
      @yoyoz333 5 месяцев назад

      @@ThatSwedishDrummer I mean that if you wrote out drum tabs for yourself to read and you wrote all the bass drum notes as 1/4 notes, regardless of where they are in the bar, you don't really need to write all the rests or dot all of the notes. You see the bass drum note and where it aligns with the hi-hat and the rest of the beat, and you can get away not having to be theoretically perfect.

      @@ThatSwedishDrummer but I want to be clear, that I appreciate this video. It's been very helpful, however I have gotten by without knowing the completely correct way to do it. Thats all I meant.
