Thank you to all my Patrons!
The interaction between Neil and Alex at 2:35 has always brought a smile to my face and nowadays a tear to my eye.
This video was filmed on April 15, 2011, so Neil would have been 58, and Geddy and Alex would have been 57. For another highlight from this show, I'd like to recommend Leave That Thing Alone. Have a great evening, and Rush on!

Marathon is one of my favorites. Was lucky enough to see this show 4 times live. Best seat was 3rd row in front of Alex in Austin.
If I make it to 100 and I'm in the home drooling on myself, I'll still be listening to these guys.....best band in history!!
I love seeing Neil and Alex having little side "conversations". So relaxed.
Rush put out an incredible amount of sound for a trio. Geddy Lee was like a one-man-band. I forget which tour it was, but I saw him playing bass, playing keyboards with his feet, and and also singing.
Rush! Legendary. You must continue to educate yourself. You won’t regret it.
Yup, one word “Subdivisions” was the one and only vocals provided by Neil. In the video Alex is saying it, but it was Neil.
After Neal Peart replaced John Rutsey, Alex and Geddy quickly abdicated lyric writing duties to him. Neal Peart was THE lyricist for RUSH from then on. Neal was a prolific writer and authored many books.
This is the song that made me a Rush fan less than one year ago, when I happened upon the music video here on RUclips. Before that, I only knew a couple of Rush songs via the radio, but 'Subdivisions' really hit home with me: I had been a shy, nerdy girl throughout my school years, so I related to Neil's lyrics (even though this song came out in 1982, one year before I started Kindergarten!). :) Also, as an '80s child, I love synth pop music and so naturally I do enjoy Rush's often maligned 'snyth era.' I just came across a video here on RUclips by the synth player for the Rush cover band, New World Men. He breaks down how Geddy gets that rich synth sound on this song. Hearing the synth part by itself was so awesome; it's so rich, melodic and full. I love this song; this is a great live performance. I only wish I could have seen Rush in concert.
I love the interaction between Alex and Neil. Great song and actually Neil wrote the majority of the lyrics.
Cheers
The washing machines were a joke by Geddy. He was teasing Alex about all his amps and cabinets and said, "I should have something big behind me." 😏
There is a video where geddy explained to technique and it is like a flamenco style. He uses his fingernail as a pic when he’s really grinding into it for that sound.
Rush forever!
This one always takes me back to the floor of my room, playing with my Legos. I got the cassette of this album and played it endlessly when I was 9 or 10 (so '82/'83). Rush sure was something special.
I saw RUSH for the first time on the Signals tour. I instantly became (unknowingly at the time) a lifetime fan 😊
Geddy's "RASH" shirt - hilarious!
I have that shirt, it came with the Blu Ray version of Time Machine!
I believe Geddy learned a little bit of slap-bass from Duran Duran's, John Taylor around 1984. The Rio song basswork is exquisite.
Geddy was doing that in 1968.
Enjoy your trip down a deep rabbit hole of greatness.
Easily my favorite song by Rush. It perfectly describes the outcast feeling kids like me had in the 70s, 80s, and 90s and is probably still accurate. It was the first Rush song I learned on guitar and the second I learned on bass after "Tom Sawyer."
Neil was the primary lyricist from the time he joined the band, after original drummer, John Rutsey left after the first album.
This is my 2nd favorite Rush song after Tom Sawyer. Musical brilliance.
The "objects" and appliances on stage behind Geddy and Alex has a background story to it. At some point in time of their existence Geddy started using in-house speakers to output his sound, so now when they play live, the space behind Geddy would be empty. Alex in the meantime still have all his rig setup with the big speakers behind him. Being the goof-offs and jokesters that they all are, Geddy would have appliances set up behind him to balance things out on stage.....popcorn machines, washers and dryers, rotisserie machines for roasting chicken etcetera. Not to be outdone, Alex soon put stuff behind him as well in addition to his gear. On the Time Machine tour where this video is from, the machines behind them are supposed to be "time machines."
Live Rush, studio Rush, doesn't matter. Sounds exactly the same!
Rich's Rush Hot Takes
Neil was a brilliant drummer, but he was an even better lyricist.
Alex was the most talented overall. Lost in the shadows of the other's greatness and quietly doing the work of 3 people himself. At a ridiculous level of technical expertise that most are unqualified to even notice.
One of the few "Perfect" bands, alongside Pink Floyd and TOOL.
🤘🧙♂🤘
I get what you're saying, but I disagree that Alex was the more talented. I believe each one of these guys were phenomenal musicians in their own right. Being together in RUSH (thank you Rock God 😊) was just supposed to happen. Cheers 🍻
I was at this show for free. 😮😮😮😊😊😊
You should really check Working Men from the same concert in Cleveland.
Neil wrote 95% of their lyrics.
FIRST TIME? How is this POSSIBLE?
People are born every day with no prior knowledge of history. It’s gonna happen more and more over time! 😂
@@WavePotterBut you're a rock musician. That's like being a teacher who's never read Shakespeare.
How are you a “rock” musician and never heard of Rush?
Where did you get the idea I’ve never heard of Rush? I literally have a YYZ and Tom Sawyer cover on this channel. I just hadn’t heard this song. Either way, there’s new people born every day and plenty of other rock music that could aquatint someone with the genre.
peart is sooooo overrated!
What?
We all tend to overrate our favorite musicians, I think. Most “overrated” musicians are tremendously talented, actually, but shouldn’t be elevated to “best ever”, or anything like that. What made Neil special was his compositions on drums, and his lyrics. Just great music, period.
His drum skills, while certainly high-level, weren’t unique… and that’s where fans go too far in their praise… saying no-one can play like him, etc.
you are an idiot
@@paulrobinson5833 Just a troll, ignore "it".
