and now Wesley's drawings are selling for thousands of dollars a piece and are on display in museums, and everyone on the internet has at least heard of him. He would be very wealthy if he was still alive.
Not all of the record labels he worked with were out to screw him over. There's also another side to this story: because of Wesley's determination to proceed with his dreams, we are aware of him, of his story, and we have at least heard of his challenges. Most people with schizophrenia will never experience the attention that Wesley earned from his fans. I know haters want to mock the guy, but for every Wesley Willis or Daniel Johnston, there's got to be hundreds of forgotten, ignored people.
those who mock him only make him stronger. Wesley is an example to us all that we are not bound by our circumstances. That you can utterly transform your life and the world around you if you are determined to persevere. And he did. And now he's immortal. And his haters only add to his immortality. #LongLiveWesleyWillis
I was brought here because I hate being broke lol. Its very depressing especially living in America. You are surrounded around the fabulous life of stars and TV shows that makes u feel very small inside. The government robs me every time I get a pay check with taxes and other nonsense I didn't ask for (like the war) .
people complaining about taxes is funny as hell. imagine no-one ever paid taxes. government would collapse, and it would be total anarchy. infrastructure, food, electricity etc. would be gone in a matter of days. you can be unhappy about the way your taxes get spent, but you could move to a different country or go into politics. o yeah and the "fabulous life of stars" is all make-believe. sure they have loads of money and attend huge exclusive parties, but would that make you truly happy?
I too hate being broke, I find it hard to be proud of myself and I try to hold onto thr idea that at least I'm not a violent person. Most of all I try to do what I can with what I've got. The man's a hero. Never forget.
WHERE THE FUCK IS WESLEY WILLIS' VEVO!!? Say what you want about music now a day but Wesley had originality and heart. Two things missing in a lot of the signed music produced today.
I for one am entertained by Wes, but I think it's kind of sick that he was exploited. He was like a side show freak...I know a lot of people share my opinion but it's kind of wrong that we listen to what he says. He was mentally ill and homeless and that was the gimmick they record label used to promote him.
He was exploited by people, yeah, but in actuality the exploitation was from major labels who signed him purely as a curiosity and from people like howard stern and ricky gervais who used his more outlandish songs as the butt of a joke. Wesley Willis was a talented illustrator and a charismatic live performer. many of the songs on his self-released cds (that were usually passed over by major label people) described issues from his personal life in detail, such as his family struggles (My Mother Smokes Crack Rocks), experience with mental illness (Outburst, They Threw Me Out of Church), and bits of his own personal philosophies (Drink That Whiskey, Cut the Mullet, Stay Out of the Ghetto). What i think people forget about Wesley is that he had an almost photographic memory which added to the quality of his art, and that he also journaled his life extensively to the point that his musical career was almost a 15-year chronicle of his everyday happenings. he was exploited but the fact that most of these personal monologue songs made it out into the internet is proof that his true art is being appreciated.
Fuck off. Bands are exploited all the time. Sst hardly ever pays royalties, dick dale has stomach cancer, but he has to get on stage and play still or he goes broke, Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana sold a bunch of shit to kids only to be cast aside in her adult years. Duck, at least ol wes got to make a little money, do what he wanted and be happy. There's no way the record company made a lot money off somebody so unique and hard to market
Every artist gets exploited to some degree. This comment is pretentious and stupid. And he's not a sideshow freak. His music is odd yes, but it is captivating in a strange way.
I disagree. Without our military, the fundamental rights that you have been given can be stripped away. Freedom comes with a price, but the U.S Marine Corps pay most of our share.
THE MILITARY IS WHAT THE GOVERMENT USES TO TAKE OUR RIGHTS AWAY. if it werent for the military then we would be able to boss around the government rather than the other way around. the military is where most of our tax dollars get wasted when they could be used to repair and fix our country. the military is the manifestation of the governments power and violence. fuck the gov and fuck the military. the people may have good intentions but they are government feed sheep. fuck the government and fuck the military. the people are the only thing that matters and the american people should be able to defend themselfs.

his art reminds me slightly of Nick Blinko's artwork.... who had schizoaffective disorder...
This makes me sad he past. SUCH A CHEETAS DIIICK in heaven wesley
He was recognized before he died and didn't die broke so a win win

good point! I think that's a super valid WW insight

Why would you ever let mindless television and lame ass celebrities be an example for how to live life ? So fucking basic.
