The Fun Effect | A Scene Comparison Compilation

- In this video I showcase franchises which I feel have been hit with the fun effect. A term I’ve coined that’s used to describe a franchise within a shared universe that once started out serious, grounded, dark, cool, poetic, etc from an artistic standpoint, and became more colorful and whimsical as time went on. This essentially serves as a compilation of all of my comparison videos that I’ve made thus far.
This video was not made out of a place of hatred or anger. While for most of these franchises I do personally feel they have declined, this is nothing more than what it is: a comparison video.

You would think with how much I’ve been talking about the predecessors that I’ve just always disliked the funner stuff. But ironically with a lot of these franchises (namely Marvel/DC, Sonic and Persona), I actually started out with the funner things. For Sonic I didn’t become a fan until 2014 and grew up during the 2010’s era. My earliest memory of Sonic is Generations and I have a lot of nostalgia for that game for example. For Marvel I was invested in all of the Disney distributed movies for 7 years up until FFH. For Persona I was introduced to the series through 5 in 2018 (before Joker was announced for Smash). And my first exposure to anything DC before the DCEU was Reeve's Superman (granted it's not part of the DCEU but still worth mentioning).
It wasn’t until I came across the older/later things after the fact (as well as just growing older and becoming more opinionated) that my perspective on said franchises changed and I found myself feeling a stronger pull with them because of how much they resonated with me emotionally. Falling off of most of the funner things as a result to a point where now I feel apathetic and straight up sad with them, knowing what once was.

You're right. The modern sonic games are in fact more like Disney Junior shows.

Yeah I used to love the movies as a kid. Mainly the first three, with a lot of nostalgia for 3 (I had toys and everything). I revisited the first movie recently and grew a stronger attachment for it when I realized how different it was from the other movies. Especially 3 - Buck Wild. It’s one of my favorite animated movies now. And as fun as the other movies can be in isolation, I wish they kept the prehistoric, grounded atmosphere of the first one.
@@anomaly395 You know. Animation upgrade is fine but you can't just take away the art that makes it cooler.
Man if those humans did look similar to Doctor Egghead over there, then why did they not let the humans look like Doctor Egghead over there ? Some fans today won't get why we preferred these over the "silly" (for the most part of course because if it started that way then it's a whatever).
Hey Anomaly. What are your opinions of the Villains from The Dark Knight Trilogy (Scarecrow, Ra's Al Ghul, Joker, Two Face, Bane & Catwoman)?
I saw some people react to the MCU video you just made not too long ago, and they kinda agree. Well except for one. He thinks you hated things to be like the comics even though when i watched it, it wasn't the point. The thing he doesn't understand is that you were talking about how misleading it is when it started as a more "cooler and "atmospheric" only to turn into cartoon and whimsical feeling that to you is "hard to know that they are in the universe". That is one of the main reasons why arrogant people who thinks they are right should just ignore a video like this. Also i honestly think that the more realistic art is much cooler. If the MCU did started out as a comic booky universe, then it would fine for me since it's a superhero franchise but what the heck.

Also yeah, I don't hate things that are comic booky and whimsical in isolation, I just love/prefer how the MCU started. That's pretty much it.
@@anomaly395 No. I saw my friends reacting to the video and some agreed some not and taken it personally. Im refering to both cut.
@@American_Commonwealth Oh I see. If it was the original one they saw then I don't blame them because I did come off as pretty nitpicky and annoyed in that one (in some areas).
I think the perfect idea for sonic would be right before the fun effect they would split the franchise where the son goose would be the boy kid friendly games like the cartoon ass style while giving shadow his old franchise where would tell the unique dark stories, unique, the realistic Final Fantasy unique art style, and really well written characters. Like imagine the next song gave after the black knight was sonic colors and then at the same time there was a shallow game that released that was something you could to metal gear solid art style storytelling and just cool moments overall. Does this comparison but compare sonic prime shadow fighting to CGI shadow of the hedgehog and 06 fighting. Also shadows character was only ruined in the side content, which isn’t cannon. It is where it’s been ruined but even forces he was very well written somehow, and that was written by the same people that wrote colors. How. Like have a kid friendly story with a nice art style from like classic games and advanced games but still have the characters very well written as fuck.
Well, there are a lot of franchises that have gone through this thing you call "The Fun Effect."
Examples: Ben 10, Transformers, Fast & Furious, Tokusatsu, TMNT, Jurassic Park, some horror movies franchises, etc.
Jurassic Park is definitely another one. Which TMNT are you referring to though? There's multiple adaptations with their own universes.
@@anomaly395 Well, with TMNT I'm not talking about the same universe. I'm talking in general, about how before we had more grounded and cool series and movies like the 2007 movie, 2014-2016 movies and the 2012-2017 animated series, to have funny series like Rise or the movie Mutant Mayhem.
@@Rocker-Scott2009 Oh I see. Well The Fun Effect is specifically in reference to shared universes. I get what you mean though.
@@anomaly395 I think that the only TMNT adaptation that can fit into that would be the 2014-2016 one, since I feel that the second one has too many unnecessary jokes compared to the first or is too colorful.
Power Rangers has the strangest fun effect transition because this franchise went from a serious, art-stylistically but cooler feel from 1993 to 2002. & It turns into a Whimsical, Cartoonier feel similar to their Sentai counterparts from Samurai to Cosmic Fury.
What if i change the music from the age of ultron scene with a more orchestral music ?
