Flamework Demonstration - How I Make A Floral Disk Bead

- This is a close up view over my shoulder as I flamework what I like to call a Floral Disk Bead. You can see how I work in my studio and how I shape a large glass disk bead. I decorate each side of the bead with different colors and complete the pattern with intricate picking and dragging of the dots to create a detailed floral design.
I am using COE 104 Effetre and Double Helix glass
Torch: GTT Lynx
Flameworking, beadmaking, lampworking and glass art
I never tire of watching over your shoulder! And every time I see something new or catch a slight difference in how you hold your hand to apply the glass. It has been such a delight to learn from you. Every part of this video is art! From the music to the camera angles, the voice overlay and of course the exquisite design. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Your welcome!! As you know, I love my students and wanted to give a super close up view of my work to more people. RUclips is pretty great that way 😊
Absolutely beautiful! This video was a perfect treat this morning as I get ready to sit at the torch today. Thank you!

Kristina, I watch this video and have to remind myself to stop gaping - not that your work doesn't deserve to be watched with awe but simply because I feel silly watching with my mouth hanging open. =) It's so amazing watching these beads come to life and you make it sound so wonderful. Thank you for sharing your gift with us! -Caroline
Love your note! And thanks for the gaping! 😂😘
The way you explain your process is very soothing and calming
Thank you so much for the inspiration, wisdom, and honestly for setting the mindset with your calming presence. Thank you for sharing this with other glass artists. You are truly a master and I can’t wait to try this. ❤
I appreciate your kind note. All the best to you and your making at the torch 🔥
Thank you so much for another inspirational and educational video Kristina.
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
I love how slow and measured you make this bead. I’m working towards getting the temperature right so I can slow down and not to be mildly panicked. Your work is so inspirational! Thank you xx
Thank you! I find working cooler with a smaller flame for soft glass is a key to many things! Best of luck!
thank you for sharing your process i could watch this all day.
Yay! I love to hear it! 🙏🏼🥰
I agree. It’s mezmerizing!
I have been looking so forward to this video and I can't wait to sit down and give it a go. You are such an inspiration to this fledgling lampworker. Thank you for sharing your artistry with us! - Jules

Beautiful, calm work. Makes me want to race out to my torch! However, even after 20+ years lampworking, I haven't achieved your mastery.
Hi Kristina, thanks for sharing and talking us through your design. Excellent details and tips, very much appreciated over here in Melbourne where it’s too far away and expensive to be able to learn from you in person at the moment. Hopefully in the future some time, meanwhile this is a great inspiration to keep glass moving. Thanks Dan
Thank you for watching Dan! It would be great to have you in a class someday-in Australia? Here in the States? Or perhaps live online? Let’s say someday!! Happy Beadmaking 🔥😊🔥

Thank you for watching 🥰🔥
I'm so happy to have found you again after being away from the torch (sadly) for over 15 years. I have books featuring your work - but to watch you in the act of creation - is mesmerizing! I have one question though - it seems like you keep the bead out of the flame for quite a while as you carefully add dots - what about thermal shock? Do any of your beads ever crack in the kiln or even days after being annealed? This is my biggest challenge at the moment as I've spent about 100 hours in the past month back at the torch with a terrible batting average! Though in the past I've made thousands of beads with only an occasional firecracker - now, I'm lucky if 60% make it out of the kiln in tact. Any ideas? Maybe you can come up with something I have yet to figure out. Thank you Kristina! You've always been my bead-making hero! 💛🙏💛 Lisa
Did you love one side better than the other ? I like both on this one, I would have a hard time choosing a side !!!😂
This one is a keeper as is. I love both sides and will keep this bead in tact 👌
😍 Thnks for this video!!!!
You're welcome! 😊

What torch do you use, do think the kind of torch makes a difference?
In this video I am using a GTT Lynx. Honestly I could probably make this very same bead on almost any small surface mix torch 🔥
@@kristinaloganglass Thank You for answering our questions!
What does people use the big beads for?
Sometimes they are collected as an individual bead. A bead like this one can also be worn on a simple chain or cord as a pendant. I often use beads like this one in my jewelry.
Do you also work with crystals?
I have actually never worked with crystals before.
👍🇹🇷
