@@bazlur-Vancouver none of which is possible without education, free education is the way of the west, the end result produces adults that get jobs paying taxes by property and products thus making the country richer. Rule of law derives from education, property rights derives from education, as does democracy.
@@johnburns4017 Life without property rights is difficult and quickly decays into might-makes-right. An even bigger deal is that the UK established quite early on that property rights bind the government much more than in many other countries. It's just harder for the British government to take your stuff compared to - say - Russia or China. The link with prosperity is that without property rights any investment you make is at risk and so discouraged. Tenant farmers in the Middle Ages were hopelessly unproductive even allowing for the time because they had no rational reason to improve the land they worked or to work it particularly hard since everything was owned by someone else. Production steps up when you personally gain from it and know that someone else can't walk in and take it. Ownership is a fundamental economic requirement and the inability to find a "solution" to ownership is a key weakness in Marxism which tries to navigate around the problem of monopolisation (a key weakness in Capitalism) by reworking ownership in a way which flies in the face of human nature and thus fails in practise no matter how nice it sounds on paper. Anyway, it's very complicated once you start getting into it, but prosperity and property rights are definitely closely linked.
@@nagoranerides3150 In the UK all land is owned by the King. _Landowners_ are called _freeholders._ That is you hold the land free of charge from the King. The King can take the land back at any time. So *all* land is effectively owned by everyone of us. That is the technicalities out of the way. If *all* land was rented by the state to the occupiers, the economy would flourish as income tax (a tax on the productive) would not be needed. All the tenant needs is security of occupation. Land Value Tax does something similar but cares not about who owns (freeholder) the land. So land titles and buying and selling of freeholds can stay. Land Value Tax reclaim community created wealth, which soaks into the ground that crystallizes as land values. Look up and understand Land Value Tax (Detroit is hoping to get it in force next year). *No, property (land) rights does not make the UK rich.* As it stands it does the opposite as _economic rent_ is appropriated by the freeholder.
The industrial revolution is the obvious answer as to how the UK became so rich and innovative back in the day but we are a rich nation today because of the strength of our service based economy not to forget cultural influence.

We’ve exported culture, sports and a principals of freedom, decency and respect for life. Of course Britain hasn’t always got it right, but I think alternatives to Britain would have been far darker. UK is not rich in terms of GDP per capita. Don't fool yourself and don't try to live like a rich country when you are not. People in UK want high wages, high benefits, good public service, short working hours and long holidays without generating the economic output that matches that.
That is nonsense. Go to any "poor" household in this country and the people (statistically 70%) are overweight and obese, meaning an excess of calories. They have electricity and heating. A TV. The Internet. Mobile phones. Not to mention a car or two. They also have free education for their children. Free healthcare. And, being on benefits, they have discounts for glasses and dentistry (or it is outright free). Get housing benefit for their rent. Child benefit to help with their children, and numerous freebies from the council. Their children can go to University through student finance (which is a government guaranteed loan they don't have to pay back until they earn a decent wage). More than half the world (4 billion) don't have any of these things! So to say British people are poor is nonsense. Even those at the bottom are rich compared to 95% of the world. That prediction about Poland isn't from official government stats. It came from Keir Starmer. He used world bank stats on GPD growth, but his calculations are based on the assumption that Polish growth will remain high while British growth will flatline. This is unlikely to happen as Polish GDP growth is widely expected to slow over the coming decade, while British growth is consistently outperforming forecasts (we were supposed to be in the middle of a two year recession right now).

How UK became rich ?
Ans: Theft wealth of india(south asian countries ), African countries.
The video kinda rushed through the factors I think most important: Rule of Law, property rights. It has been argued that it almost doesn't matter what else is going on. With these two, wealth *will* follow.
Rule of Law, property rights, relatively corruption free and democracy are the main components of a prosperous country.
Property rights? Stretching it.
@@nagoranerides3150
In the UK all land is owned by the King.

Certainly doesn’t feel like the 5th largest economy right now. The UK is nominally wealthy but it’s so poorly distributed that most people really aren’t feeling the benefit right now. All that growth, looting and colonisation only for rich people to get richer, and poor people to stay poor.
And they are only "poor" in this country through poor personal choices.

Newspapers (owned by the rich) encourage the poor to fight among themselves and blame everything wrong with the world on just about anyone other than the real culprits: the filthy rich. As a result, we always get terrible governments of a right wing persuasion - even Blair's 'New Labour'.
Of course, it's the same the world over (though your totalitarian Russia and China do it differently). Musk sells snake oil with his 'green' electric cars (that use energy that still comes from hydrocarbons half the time) and his Space X nonsense. Stock prices get manipulated, the rich employ crafty accountants to abuse those tax loopholes / evade it altogether, or just don't pay their bills (eg. Trump and all his lawsuit swindling).

This is unlikely to happen as Polish GDP growth is widely expected to slow over the coming decade, while British growth is consistently outperforming forecasts (we were supposed to be in the middle of a two year recession right now).
The British empire once ruled 3/4 of earth! It literally brought in the modern world! For a modern example, CPUs in mobile phones are a British invented - the ARM cpu. 🤯
And the world wide web was invented by Sir Tim Berners Lee, a Brit
Technically speaking the English Crown still ‘owns’ approximately 1/6th of the world land mass. If you think of all the nations the English Crown where is still head of state.
The modern world only happened because of millions of slaves working in primary industries that enabled the home populace to industrialise
British Empire looted 3/4 of earth.
That's funny, the 'left wing' media in Britain keep telling people how poor we are and how it's all the fault of the Tories, Brexit, racism and transphobia...
A Belgian once said to me. You British are pirates. Started by pirates. Grew rich on piracy and always inventing new forms of piracy, like the City of London.
Update: it's all got a big topsy-turvy. Maybe try Paris.
Britain is Awesome!! The people are wonderful second to NONE!!
Amazing UK
Feels like we're going downhill though over the last couple of years
Brits realising they’re being exploited by the rich:
Long story short the queen/king made Rich 🤑
Brexit has made so much of this film out of date. Our Eu neighbours do not find it easy dealing with the UK anymore
From crusaders to pirates to business men
The UK just about invented everything tv tank toilet and so much more and more
no, no it didnt
not computers, since the usa literally invented semi conductors
I guess that list is more or less complete...
@@franknwogu4911 the OP didnt say the UK invented computers.
@@Iamtheliquor can u elaborate on the "op"
It's simple, the majority of the British population GRAFT and Graft HARD. Its not rocket science 💥🚀
Yeah the british make great robots ,do what they are told , 😂😂😂money before soul 😢😢
Sure they do. The majority are on disability benefits it’s only the foreigners that are grafters.
@@supersurfer1 foreigners sell drugs to kids you clown. You don't meet working Albanians or Somalians you cretin
23 million brits claimed benefits in 2021. Talk about grafting hard. Even the PM's a huge joke
some of us is rocket science :)
Since publishing this the UK has been overtaken by India.
Another interesting measure is Net International Investment Position (NIIP) which is basically how much a country is owed by others minus it's national debt.
Looked at it this way Japan has a financial surplus of $3.4 trillion, Germany is at +$3.1 trillion, China +$2.1 trillion and Norway at +$1.2 trillion while the UK is at -$800 billion.
Britain killed 4 million Indians in Bengal in 1943 by imposing a famine
Sunak drives past Churchill statue everyday
I've only just seen this video (May 2023).
You have, I think wrongly, under-emphasised the influence of the industrial revolution which started in the UK and gave it a huge leap forward scientifically, in engineering and economically. You also barely paid lip service to the role of education - particularly STEM education - in the development and wealth of countries.
Some (interesting) stats:
1) Number of Nobel prizes by country (ordered)
Country Number of Nobels
United States 406
United Kingdom 138
Germany 114
France 73
Sweden 33
Russia/USSR 32 etc
2) University rankings (according to QS World University Rankings)
USA 5 in the top 10
UK 4 in the top 10 (Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College London and UCL)
(NB Switzerland has the other one in the top 10, at 9th)
Germany highest ranked 49
France highest ranked 26
Sweden highest ranked 89
Russia highest ranked 75

What a retard you are. The country looks like bhagdad you womble
Good video 🎉 But .... Why is the Nations Flag being flown on a flag pole UPSIDE DOWN !
Decades of plundering does tend to give a headstart.
GDP can be high, but the population are not rich.
Yep, like how median is better than mean/ average.
Rule Britannia from Glasgow 🇬🇧 😎
I’d love to see how much the premier league makes for the UK
The league is worth $30.3 billion and generates around $3 billion annually for the economy.
Where did you get that top 5 from ?
Could you do one on France?
Why does the UK have so many food backs when it's so rich? 🤔
Because the government especially in Scotland want to control people and have created a country of benefit dependency and a banking system that is rewarded for failure and mismanagement and a culture where politicians and bankers look after each other not the general population, hence uncontrolled immigration of cheap labour
Because people can't cook fresh food and they would rather buy 4 cans of Stella and 20 fags
That doesn't make any difference the usa has dangerous ghettos with very poor people but it's still the richest
Because we are run by greedy b….. who do not have a clue about real life
It doesn’t matter as long as the few have everything. The poor are just a scourge to them.
It's not just a matter of how rich a country is, its about who holds the majority of that wealth and what it's used for.
And trillion dollars stole from India
Have to be really thankful to how good its economy is that we can weather brexit and other recessions.
The level of the state pension here compered to other countries gives me the impression that the UK is not rich at all.
The state pension is like being on benefits, it's not supposed to be easy to live comfortably on. That's what private pensions and life savings are for.
@@radman8321
The state pension was for that. Private was an extra for those who could afford it.
as in, the UK is a country for the rich, not the people
@@radman8321 Okay but why is that if the UK is apparently so rich?
@@johnburns4017 Not really. Between 1978 and 2002 the state offered SERPS for those not in company pension schemes. It was/is widely recognised that the basic state pension will do nothing apart from stop you starving/freezing to death, and is almost always topped up with other benefits if it is all the pensioner has to live on.
People started living longer and longer and so employers and the state got rid of the huge liabilities of paying out a pension for decades based on previous salary.
People just haven't been saving enough for their own pensions.
