    Watching Carl in that 99 get that run off the high side and drag race Jimmie Johnson to the finish and the post race celebration as Edwards did his first backflip gives me chills. Miss Carl and Jimmie in NASCAR so much!

      I was 11 and I was only upset that he didn’t win in an Office Depot paint scheme cause my Dad was a manager at a Office Depot warehouse when Carl signed with Office Depot in 2005 and got me a poster & 1:24 diecast of Carl Edwards in his OD scheme...But I fell in love with Carl cause of his backflips, burnouts, & aggressive driving style!

      I was 4, about to turn 5, one of the first I remember, mostly because of Carl Edwards flips, made me pay attention every race just in case he won, I think around the same time Tony Stewart would climb the fence when he won so that was interesting too

    Everyone thought Carl was done with 5 to go. DW even said he should "let the 16 go." Looking at the gap between the 99 and 48 at that point, it's still amazing he was able to close it on worn tires.

    • @RussellAutosport
      @RussellAutosport 4 года назад +11

      He got sick of NASCAR ruining the sport and him finding out about the stage racing was the final straw and he just left. He was one of the true racers and was tired of all of the gimmicks. Don’t believe me? Watch this video on NASCAR’s own RUclips channel: ruclips.net/video/qxNqVoZpngQ/видео.html

    • @RussellAutosport
      @RussellAutosport 4 года назад +4

      The reason it’s a mystery is because NASCAR intentionally doesn’t shed a lot of light on it or perform interviews because they don’t want you to think about it. Drivers used to race until their 50’s and 60’s, just look at the Racing 20 years ago. Is it just some coincidence that lately all of the more old school drivers left the sport? Tony Stewart was another driver who finally just got sick of the gimmicks and left. Tony wasn’t too old to race, he still races sprint cars all the time, he loves racing. Juan Pablo Montoya, Jamie McMurray, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Marcos Ambrose, etc... Jimmie Johnson is another great example. Hell, he’s not done racing, he has an Indycar test he’s going to do with McLaren (postponed for now because of COVID-19), and they’ve already secured the number 48 so he can race for them next year if he wants to.

    I appreciate the effort NASCAR has made to make these available for fans to watch and the fact that they label the significance of some of these classic races, but I think the video titles should include the year and name of the race and save the significant facts or race winners for the description area of the video posts. That way, you have to look deeper into the video information for any 'spoilers'. I enjoy re-watching some old races, but it's less interesting when the title of the video indicates the race winner.

    Oh man! Another missed opportunity of a 16:9 2005 race! I mean I get it, not too many people had HDTV’s in 2005, but if a race from 2003ish, 2004, 2005 through present that was intended to be broadcasted in 16:9, that’s how it should be. Matter of fact, I don’t have a problem with 4:3 races as long they took place between 1949-2002.

    • @racermac1988
      @racermac1988 4 года назад

      Except... not EVERY race was in 16:9 until the 2005 season... The 2004 Southern 500 on NBC was the last race to be broadcast in 4:3.
      Its also a matter of where they are pulling their master tapes from.

    • @anthonydeloreto3881
      @anthonydeloreto3881 4 года назад

      Josh Jarnagin I’m not complaining here, I just keep questioning as to why is the aspect ratio not the way it was originally intended to be. If a coverage had no intention of 16:9, then it should be in 4:3 because that’s how it was made. If it was made in 16:9 but it’s in 4:3 instead, it’s a bummer. Am I mad about this? No. It’s more like “meh, what can you do?” Type of reaction for me.

    • @anthonydeloreto3881
      @anthonydeloreto3881 4 года назад

      Michael McIntyre that is true. And yes you’re right not every race was in 16:9 until 2005. There were selected races in 2003 & 2004 in 16:9. In fact Fox had a widescreen feed in 2003 & 2004. There is a 2003 Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 on DVD, & it’s in 16:9. It isn’t cropped or stretched. So what I’m saying is: If there’s a race coverage out there that was in 16:9, that’s the aspect ratio it should be in. If there’s a race coverage was intended only for 4:3 & not 16:9, that’s the way it should be. My understanding is that perhaps NASCAR doesn’t have the network version. Which is why you get stuff like this.

      Look at the NASCAR drive for diversity program. Your biggest hurdle will be getting started in either karts or Legends cars.

      Also, this isn’t really a classic race. I’d much rather watch races from the 70s, 80s, or 90s.
