Watching Carl in that 99 get that run off the high side and drag race Jimmie Johnson to the finish and the post race celebration as Edwards did his first backflip gives me chills. Miss Carl and Jimmie in NASCAR so much!
Omg! I remember this being one of the most formative races that got me into NASCAR when I was 7! Thank you NASCAR!!!
I was 11 and I was only upset that he didn’t win in an Office Depot paint scheme cause my Dad was a manager at a Office Depot warehouse when Carl signed with Office Depot in 2005 and got me a poster & 1:24 diecast of Carl Edwards in his OD scheme...But I fell in love with Carl cause of his backflips, burnouts, & aggressive driving style!
I was also 7. Weird how we were the same age and got into nascar in 05.
I was 32
I was 4, about to turn 5, one of the first I remember, mostly because of Carl Edwards flips, made me pay attention every race just in case he won, I think around the same time Tony Stewart would climb the fence when he won so that was interesting too
Hi
this is one race i've always wanted to see in high quality, thank you nascar!
What In Carnation? As a carl fan this is epic
this is not HQ
hq but they missed the volume up their sound
this was the first cup race I ever attended.
8 weeks with no NASCAR
Me: I need a 8 weeks worth of tissu... oh wait...
36:10 - a young John Hunter Nemechek
Everyone thought Carl was done with 5 to go. DW even said he should "let the 16 go." Looking at the gap between the 99 and 48 at that point, it's still amazing he was able to close it on worn tires.
Carl did an amazing job in the closing laps on very worn tires to pass Jimmie and get his first win.
All on raw car control
I miss Carl Edwards, loved him and his celebratory backflip when I was a kid, wish he was still out there racing.
I'm extremely appreciative of these classic uploads but I really wish they would do them like Indycar's channel and upload it in a way that doesn't spoil the ending for people who don't remember/know who wins.
First driver to win their first Xfinity and Cup race in the same weekend too
They need to do a biography about Carl. The way he left was like a mystery.
Small Shot I’m still confused on why he left I think it was something behind the scenes
He got sick of NASCAR ruining the sport and him finding out about the stage racing was the final straw and he just left. He was one of the true racers and was tired of all of the gimmicks. Don’t believe me? Watch this video on NASCAR’s own RUclips channel: ruclips.net/video/qxNqVoZpngQ/видео.html
The reason it’s a mystery is because NASCAR intentionally doesn’t shed a lot of light on it or perform interviews because they don’t want you to think about it. Drivers used to race until their 50’s and 60’s, just look at the Racing 20 years ago. Is it just some coincidence that lately all of the more old school drivers left the sport? Tony Stewart was another driver who finally just got sick of the gimmicks and left. Tony wasn’t too old to race, he still races sprint cars all the time, he loves racing. Juan Pablo Montoya, Jamie McMurray, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Marcos Ambrose, etc... Jimmie Johnson is another great example. Hell, he’s not done racing, he has an Indycar test he’s going to do with McLaren (postponed for now because of COVID-19), and they’ve already secured the number 48 so he can race for them next year if he wants to.
Better yet, Carl Edwards: The Autobiography.
Tyler Russell Jimmie was waiting to see what the new car looked like before he made his mind up. Doubt you'll find it now but he said that in an interview I remember. Of course you'll probably never hear him bad mouth it though.
As a Carl fan this was probably my Favorite Win.
hearing Dick Bergren and Jeanie Zalasko talk over that grid music hits me with so much nostalgia for the mid 00s
These fast cars were so awesome to watch, and hard to handle!
I love seeing Johnson get beat on the last lap! Great racing
A lot of people watch this quick
I love being able to see these races. I feel like there was much more racing throughout the field than today.
It’s the Carl Edwards cup series
I appreciate the effort NASCAR has made to make these available for fans to watch and the fact that they label the significance of some of these classic races, but I think the video titles should include the year and name of the race and save the significant facts or race winners for the description area of the video posts. That way, you have to look deeper into the video information for any 'spoilers'. I enjoy re-watching some old races, but it's less interesting when the title of the video indicates the race winner.
Never seen this before now as a Carl fan I'm pumped this was uploaded.
One of my favorite finishes of all time. Wish Carl could have won a championship.
SAME! Such a class act.
I think he did win a Busch series championship in 2007 but I wish he was able to nab that Cup championship.
Me too
Legendary stuff right here. I miss Carl very much
Carl Edward’s got me into NASCAR.During his career I was glued to the TV chomping on the bit waiting for the flag to drop.
I was surprised how quickly the races lost its pop for me after he retired.I always wait for that surprise announcement that Carl will be making a cameo.Wishful thinking I guess.
Nascar fans: There's no racing until may, please play some older races.
Nascar: Say no more, fam
"Those tires are matched perfect and staggered special... If you go to the outside, you can hold it." - Harry, Days of Thunder + Bob Osborne
Thank you for posting this race....in times like these a little Classic NASCAR is a wonderful thing!
Finally!!! I was waiting for this race. Thanks NASCAR for the upload.
I was there at this race. Whole family camped out all weekend, watched the trucks Friday night, the Bush series on sat, and the Nextel cup series on Sun. Man I miss these days! I was probably 13 or 14 years old at the time! Loved every second of it
This was an awesome finish for a first win
This race was Nascar's peak. Absolutely epic
That's a very good idea if NASCAR places great races of the past online, from the same tracks we're missing because of this pandemic.
The day I became a Carl Edwards fan
Me too
And this is why Carl is my favorite driver
Me too
Thank you, NASCAR for putting out full broadcasts of some great racing from previous years! I hope to see more in the future!
Well at least we can watch Nascar races on RUclips thanks so much for the uploads
1992, 2000, 2001, & 2005 are the best Atlanta races..
The day I became a Carl Edwards fan.
Carl! 🐐
My favorite driver’s first win 😊
What's it called to be nostalgic for something you never got to experience? That's me with these Gen 4 races
I started watching when they still ran gen 4 cars, they were amazing, 2005 was an EPIC season, just pick a random race and it's probably gonna be a good one.
YES THANK YOU NASCAR! Please please upload more! We love these classic race uploads!
I get chills every time. Amazing.
This was the first race I went to. My dad and I sat on the turn 4 side of the front strech
AAAAHHH, one of my favorite races ever! Thank you NASCAR, thank you! 🙌🏼😭
I knew who wins this whole time but still I was on the edge of my seat for that finish, wow that was awesome

Hey NASCAR, would you please be willing to post more races from the 80s and 90s? I'm not complaining about this video bc it was a great race. Just wondering if maybe you could post 1 from each era.
Thanks for giving us something to watch!!!!
Thank you NASCAR!!!
That first lap was nasty
NASCAR acknowledging Carl Edwards? What??
See how full the stands are that's Wade NASCAR needs to be again NASCAR baby
I was 13 when this race ran, I remember well being at my uncle’s for the beginning of this race and him commenting on the first lap pileup looking like a Talladega crash. Then being home and my mom and I going nuts over Carl’s first win.
Wow this race was in the year i was born
Aye!!! One of my favorite races!! Making this break just a little easier!
He barely made that back flip but can't blame him he had just won his 1st race, must have been exhausted.
Revisiting after Larson just had the closest finish in NASCAR history with Buescher.... Just love this stuff!!
I love these full race replays. I would be more inclined to watch the whole thing if you didn't put the winner in the headline. Now I don't see the point in watching for 3 hours if I know who wins.
You know thumbnails like that aren’t supposed to give out the answer to who won the race. Some new race fans want to see some suspense of how the race went.
It's 15 years old, unless you're young, you probably remember how this one ends.
Exactly! Thank you!
I was still on the edge of my seat at the finish lol and I remember when this one happened
Dexter Hochstetler ehh plenty of 14 year olds that like nascar especially 2005 nascar since they weren’t around to experience that peak. Thumbnail is not great but they do it with the races that came on the day before so 🤷🏽♂️
If you've watched any "Best NASCAR finishes" videos, you know how this ends.
Good race, but I’d like to see the 1992 Hooters 500
I'm DiOiBe they’ll do that one eventually. No worry.
I think they are coming out with it on the 29th. (9 days from now)
At 11am
Central time
I hope they will put it
What a shame and pain in my chest produces the fact this good hearted man fighted three times to get a Cup championship and never was able to get it.
I always feel so bad for Joe Nemechek. Had someone given him a much better ride, we could've won a lot more than he did.
Best broadcasting crew
Yep, this was their all-star lineup. Best in the biz for nearly a decade. Reminds me alot of TBS Braves telecasts from the 90's-early 2000's.
Yesssss! Great upload : D
What an outstanding race.
epic race
At least the car with the toilet paper sponsor won... right!?!?!?!
Bad Booking it’s a different scotts, this was scotts lawn care. Edwards also drove ortho and miracle gro cars in either cup or nationwide
I know this race was in widescreen and near HD quality
2:53:08
2:55:50 - what the heck is DW doing?!
One of the best Atlanta races ever, right here.
I miss Carl
Me too because he did backfire for me when he win the race
Can you do watkins glen 2003
2:19:59
Working on that wheel hard
Casey Henry wish the cars were still like that
@@tamezzodiac2862 Oh man, so do I. I took it for granted back then. Was a real man's sport then.
Compared to 2000, 2001 and 2024 this was clear on tv who won at the finish.
So hype
Why in the hell do they spoil these entire races by showing the winner in the thumbnail???
Hey NASCAR! Stop telling is who won the race in the thumbnail.
If you don't know you shouldn't be aloud to li.. i mean watch.
Oh man! Another missed opportunity of a 16:9 2005 race! I mean I get it, not too many people had HDTV’s in 2005, but if a race from 2003ish, 2004, 2005 through present that was intended to be broadcasted in 16:9, that’s how it should be. Matter of fact, I don’t have a problem with 4:3 races as long they took place between 1949-2002.
Except... not EVERY race was in 16:9 until the 2005 season... The 2004 Southern 500 on NBC was the last race to be broadcast in 4:3.
Its also a matter of where they are pulling their master tapes from.
C’mon just take what we have. They could’ve simply not posted this instead
Josh Jarnagin I’m not complaining here, I just keep questioning as to why is the aspect ratio not the way it was originally intended to be. If a coverage had no intention of 16:9, then it should be in 4:3 because that’s how it was made. If it was made in 16:9 but it’s in 4:3 instead, it’s a bummer. Am I mad about this? No. It’s more like “meh, what can you do?” Type of reaction for me.
Michael McIntyre that is true. And yes you’re right not every race was in 16:9 until 2005. There were selected races in 2003 & 2004 in 16:9. In fact Fox had a widescreen feed in 2003 & 2004. There is a 2003 Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 on DVD, & it’s in 16:9. It isn’t cropped or stretched. So what I’m saying is: If there’s a race coverage out there that was in 16:9, that’s the aspect ratio it should be in. If there’s a race coverage was intended only for 4:3 & not 16:9, that’s the way it should be. My understanding is that perhaps NASCAR doesn’t have the network version. Which is why you get stuff like this.
Anthony DeLoreto Yes if you go to the video “Top 10 NASCAR Finishes on FOX” They have this race in 16:9 widescreen HD
this is when Nascar was good to watch not now these days
....what volume ?
Can we get the 2005 Aaron’s 499
"Classic NASCAR" . . .*Shows a 2005 race*
Wow, I feel old 0_o lol.
Damn shame the stupid playoff system kept Carl from capturing a couple Cup Championships...
Request: 1998 NASCAR Suzuka race.
They didn't go to Japan in 1999, just 1996-98
@@TheMrtgamer Misremembered the year, editing.
If the big one didn’t happen wondering what the race would be
BOOGITY......BOOGITY......BOOOOOGITY
I remember watching it live. Was awesome especially since Jimmy lost.
Not loud enough
❤
I’m black and I wanna be a nascar driver is that possible
Yes easily you can use that to get in
Look at the NASCAR drive for diversity program. Your biggest hurdle will be getting started in either karts or Legends cars.
No, not welcome
Global News Networks 😂😂
I don't know if NASCAR replies?😢
Today on stuff you’ll never see in Formula Bor1ng…
With. everything going on and no NASCAR. I'm ready for. Some boogety
George effectively abandoned the program.
Larrymac says its a chit show
Keep uploading these old races until this BS is over
I’m not gonna watch this race, but please, for the love of God, stop putting the winner in the thumbnail.
Also, this isn’t really a classic race. I’d much rather watch races from the 70s, 80s, or 90s.
😢😭😢😭😢😭 a full free race that you otherwise wouldnt have footage of.. so ungrateful. Especially now when basically all current racing/sports have been suspended until further notice
Back when the cup cars actually had some power.
Yeah and blowing engines at 9700 rpms, Atlanta was a powertrain killer back in the day lol....
And also Roush Power was the engine to beat back then, roush and Hendrick were dominant....
😂
I AM FIRST
