Installing your Maxxair Fan with Ford Transit specific parts so you can get a secure fit without Butyl or Sealants (not required but we do use it in this install). Dang I just install 2 fans on my transit a week ago!!! Looks amazing!!!!
I just received both the VanProject kit and the Diyvan adapter today. I am happy with everything, but a warning to any Canadians, after exchange rates, shipping, taxes and duty this setup was $460. The Maxxfan was $506.
... at 1:20 why didn't you leave the silver piece taped and use it as the template to drill the black gasket and again at 2:00 ?
It would then be impossible to drill it incorrectly.

What are the details of the clip hardware that replaces the OEM maxxfan "screw guides" (see timestamp 1:35)?
@avcrig- is there no longer a need for Dicor Lap sealant over the bolts and flange?
What is the primer used on the exposed metal edges & holes?
X2... figured somebody must make something like that and there it was. But it's not listed in the video details 😢
Before I drop 2 bills on this very clean install kit, (I already have the DIY roof plate) is the fan still water tight? Also, why replaced the side clips that the fan screws into? And lastly, when threading the stainless bolts up through from the bottom, is the upper bracket on the roof kit threaded for those stainless bolts? Thanks! Love your video tutorials!
Fan install is still fine. I think it’s a cool solution but a year later we just went back to a standard install. I’d stick with your DIY plate and if you want to go the extra mile replace the screws in the maxx kit with stainless through bolts with nylock nuts.
Hi Matt, Thanks for the great video. Many people use wooden frame inside the van so it's easy to run screws up through the white cosmetic roof bezel into the wood frame. But looks like the VanProject kit has those metal plates on the bottom inside the van. How did you attach the Maxx fan interior bezel ????

Hey Matt, Excellent job. This is the best install I have seen so far. I have a Ford Passenger van. Do you have a video on cutting out the headliner to fit the Maxx fan adapter box ?
You know I haven’t, but that would be a good addition. Next crew or passenger we will be sure to film that. We use the opening in the roof to trace our cutout to the headliner. Just temporarily reinstall the headliner trace with a marker from above, then cut your headliner. I do this between installing the trim ring and the actual fan itself.

@@AVCRIG - When you mount the adapter box inside on a passenger interior, after cutting out the hole, do you have to remove the original hardware you put into the mounting strips underneath? Do the screws have to go through the adapter box, strips, and into the roof mount?
What about the 12v? You just run the van off chassi battery?
We run them from the house system. I don’t like running anything from the vehicle aside from alternator charging of the house system.
Do you deliver you adapter in France ?
Looks solid and super clean! Curious if the stainless fastening screws that Van Project 1 includes with their kit are long enough to accommodate the thickness of the DIY Van adapter?
We were the first to try this combo out and I picked up a few longer screws fit just this reason. I gave them updates lengths and it’s all good to go now.
That looks like a nice kit, appreciate your video. A month or so later, are you guys still happy with the install/waterproof-ness? We're just getting ready to install our MaxxAir and are trying to decide if we're going to use this or just go with the "old fashioned" install. Haven't been able to find anyone else that's used this yet.
I am happy with the final install. I do think it’s a bit over the top. I’ve never had an issue with our normal install. I do think the the DIY van adapter makes the install really flat and easy.
@@AVCRIG I agree, it does seem a bit over the top, and, another cost. I seem to keep finding new ways to spend money on this build. On the plus side, I like the idea of not having to worry about various sealants and the upkeep on those. I know the sun/UV is unforgiving on that sort of stuff. We are pretty set on using the DIY adapter, it seems like an efficient way to simplify the install.

curious why 3M 740 UV is used in the tutorial but a different product is linked in the description? Which one do you recommend?
I think that was a mistake on our posting. Sorry. We use lap seal for the exterior surface on most of our installs. When sealing in between two areas I prefer 740 UV. Dicor lap seal has always been my go to for a leveling exterior sealant exposed to the weather. 740 just doesn’t level out as nicely.

$200 for a the VanProject1 stuff feels steep for what it is.
We do have another video showing how we install a fan without it.
