My Mother was born in Thorne in 1918, but I have never been there. My Great Grandfather, I was told, built the Lady Chapel in Thorne. One day I should visit the town.

Just to let you know, the pump in Thorne Market Place is a Crimean War Pump and was used to water the horses as there was originally a water trough as well. There is a community woodland next to the Delves in Thorne and a Community woodland in Moorends as well. There is also a small Catholic church in moorends.

The watertower shown in your documentary of Thorne with its fluted edges won an award when it was built for its design.

The building cross from the church grounds that is now flats used to be the old grammar school, I believe that building is listed and as a result was turned into flats rather than being demolished with the rest of the school

Across the road from the windmill was Thorne Secondary School for Boys. Now demolished to make way for houses. The English teacher when I was a pupil was Roy Clarke, the creator of the TV series Last of the Summer Wine.
