I ran into Chris at the start of a hike this past May long weekend at one of our Provincial Parks. A genuinely great guy and really appreciative of the fans. I kept it short as he was with Family. To my surprise, at the end of the hike He came up to me and kept on with our conversation, reminiscing about St James parties and playing Sunday shows at The Albert. He even invited us to join them at one of the nearby beaches for the afternoon. Sadly, I went to the wrong beach. No matter. It made my month. I've always been one degree separated from meeting them on many occasions. You're next Jord!

I love that you're expanding your pallet with amazing punk. I can't help but crack up every time you say they're a new favorite band from a group that has been doing their thing for 30+ years.
Either way, your smiles and enjoyment brings me back to when I first heard these songs/albums.
"Quantity is job #1" can be hard to listen to but you get some incredible pre-album or alt takes of songs off of "how to clean everything" and "Less talk, more rock". The alt version of "refusing to be a man" is close to better than the album version.
Hearing how "chicken fight" becomes "the only good fascist is a very dead fascist" is sort of hilarious as is the poignant ending line of "kill them all and let a norse god sort them out."

    Dying for The Weakerthans video!
Not super bass heavy, but the singer/songwriter was the original bassist for Propagandhi and he’s my favorite songwriter of all time.
Their bassist is really tasteful though, maybe I’d suggest the song “Time’s Arrow” for the dueling bass/guitar solo (sort of?) but I’m not sure if it’s the best representation of the band.

Today's Empire's blew my mind when it came out, but what really stuck me was when I saw them live on that tour. They sound just like the record! It's one thing to be able to record music like this, but then to pull it off flawlessly live is a whole other thing. Second time I saw them was the Failed States tour with The Flatliners who are also amazing live.

You could go on for months between Propagandhi and A Wilhelm Scream.. I got my first Propagandhi album in middle school, "How to Clean Everything". They used to be much more punk but every iteration of style they have evolved into has been fantastic. A band that has progressed without getting too far away from who they are. My absolute favorite album from them and one of the best punk albums ever is "Today's Empires Tomorrows Ashes"... Back to the Motor league is my fking jam.

I bought a used vinyl of this album on a whim sometime around 2011 for $5 because the cover was awesome. I knew of Propagandhi during my teenage years when how to clean everything came out. I thought it was ok but I was a huge metal head so I never really got into the band. Putting this record on and listening to this song as the opening track for the first time blew my fucking mind. It was really awesome to see you hear it for the first time because it brought back memories for me feeling the exact same way. Supporting Caste is an album I still listen to all the time to this day. It's my favorite Propagandhi album, and definitely in my top 10 albums of all time. I'm telling you right now this album, failed states and potemkin city limits will blow your mind. Just wait until you hear supporting caste, without love and last will and testament. This will be your favorite band or close to it.

  • @chrisegg7936

i find it really interesting that you think Chris and Todd have similar voices! For most of the band’s history, the contrast between the two of them (in their songwriting as well) has been part of what makes Propagandhi so compelling. But Todd has much less of a presence on Victory Lap (only sings/wrote When All Your Fears Collide and Nigredo) because he was going through a lot of personal/family stuff during writing and production. He also sings with a lot less of his trademark snarl on that album. But i think as you listen through all of Supporting Caste, you’ll start to see how the two singer dynamic works together to make Propagandhi such a unique band. Really glad to hear you’re gonna check it out! Have fun!
