OK, this is FANTASTIC! DO MORE PLEASE! It is beyond the basic and somewhat intermediate level which is helping propel me forward. I don't need anymore basic or beginner-intermediate level videos of ASL. THIS is functional and at a more rapid pace, it's more real-life. Please keep this wonderful learning happening!!!!!
Classifiers are handshapes that have a series of possible meanings and functions; but they are meaningless and useless by themselves unless a noun is signed or fingerspelled before the signed classifier. Singing or fingerspelling a noun before a classifier contributes in giving a meaning or function to the classifier. Classifiers can have a definition depending on their: 1. location in the space of signing 2. closeness to a specific part of the body 3. orientation of the palm of the hand 4. orientation of the knuckles
Hi!! My 6 year old son is deaf!! This helped me a lot!! Could you please make more videos of describing things in ASL.. like how they move and how to sign how it looks? Thanks!!
Happy to help out! I have 5 videos total that include slang, mouth morphemes the signs that arent really taught.... and another 5 thats called Poetry/ Song Vocabulary... tons of signs that are very much the Deaf way! :) Subscribe if you havent to show your support, thanks for your comment. Enjoy!
I am so happy you found them too! Feel free to share them if you have a signing buddy! If you like these, there are more advanced signs. Go under the Advanced playlist.. find the series of "Poetry and Song" vocab, and "Deaf Slang" oh and "Mouth Morphemes". Tons of good tools to enhance your signing levels. You can hit mute for a great receptive practice too! Wishing you all the best!
I am so glad this is helping you along! and the term LEVEL UP! Okay, your vibe just inspired me. DO the challenge and "mute" the video for the full receptive experience! Oh and check out the Poetry/SOng Parts 1-5, they are much like these... advanced, deep concept signs with mouth morphemes.. sounds like you're on the right track! :)
@@melissacayton1111 hiiii! Thanks! I already watch with no captions and on mute 👍🏼. Love that you have all the options for people! Your videos are top notch and I also love YOUR vibe!! I watched your meditation videos too and totally found them helpful too!
Glad you you enjoyed this one... hope you benefit from the others I have shared. :) As always best wishes! And subscribe to not miss out on future videos as well.
Thanks so much for this video, and I hope you don't mind me being a little "long winded" with this. I'm on the East Coast in NJ and a pilot out of Philadelphia so I fly to many different areas and I know signs can be "regional" or people may refer to things different ways, such as out here we call Coke or Pepsi "soda" though places in the midwest, a lot call it "pop" which brings me to the sign I saw you use for "Pizza". I've seen that numerous different ways, but the way you did it was the first time I saw it that way. I've mostly seen people doing it on other videos with some variation of the bent "2" or "V" and drawing a "Z", or instead of the palm down like you had it, palm up with the wrist kind of being twisted around. The point I'm really making is this is the reason I get so much out of watching your videos, and other instructors videos or vlogs, because depending on where they are I can see the differences. So while traveling coast to coast or in between and I do come across someone I may be able to recognize a sign that may be "regional" to that area. Thanks and looking forward to your next one :)
Hey RIchard! I am so glad you recognize the regional signs and aware of them. Funny, I most of the time sign PIZZA with the two "z's". I think I just flip flop with various signs... for this video, I used the handshape one to show the description of the pizza slice as well. The extra being exposed to the various forms are bonuses! Glad you are recognizing them and knowing they are "not wrong" just various forms. :) Keeeep at it!
Thanks for this, I am not so active on RUclips or social media... and unsure if I am missing something to do just that. In the meantime, I will continue to share more videos as I can. You the best for subscribing! Best wishes
Hello! Any chance you could run through some Deaf Idioms and slang? There are so many news ones out there and I tend to miss them! thank you! You are wonderful!
So happy you are benefiting from these. Yes! If you are ready and wanting to move forward... Slang, Mouth Morphemes are your thing! I also have advanced vocabulary that relates to "poems" "songs" but... they are typical DEAF signs... many related to slang so check those out! Here are the Mouth Morphemes and Deaf slang videos to share! Enjoy! (Dont forget show your support, subscribe or share with others! Thank you and best wishes!!) Hello Mellisa, I just started to learn ASL on line at my local community college to help communicate with a coworker I would like to be friends with who is in the deaf community. Are you still on you tube ? I am from PA 25 minutes outside of Philadelphia in the suburbs. We just started learning classifiers and I’m very confused.
Hello Allison, I am still here, not quick about checking it, but I try my best. :) I am in the West Coast. If it helps... Classifiers are just hand shapes that describe something. Like MAN (then use a Classifier to describe him, like "tall) your classifier is what shows he is tall. Did that help? Eck! Sorry so late by the way...
It would really help me a lot if instead of glossing your signs into English, you would simply vocally speak the signs (sign-by-sign) even if it results in chopped up English sentences. Signs evolve so quickly that its difficult to keep up with modern usage. I had to rewind several times to figure out the meaning of the "voices off" sign from context, as that sign was new to me. It would just make it easier to learn new signs without having to drop everything to figure out a novel new sign from its context (and then you've still never 100% confident that you even got it right). Also I do try and watch your videos muted numerous times, before breaking down and finally resorting to turning on the sound.
Hi, Melissa! I'm an Interpreter in Texas. I love your videos and your amazing attitude!
You send the same positivity right back at yourself. :) Thanks for the love, much appreciated!

Wonderful your knowledge of signing but please slow down for some of us who are learning.
great to meet you! I've been attracted over here 🙌🙌
Welcome aboard! Perhaps you can learn some ASL and collaborate to share some light to others!! :) Thank you for following your intuition to this page!

Hey you. : ). I see that you use different mouth morphemes. I teach OO. MM. CHA for size. Height
You'd be a great teacher if you're not doing that already!
Please do a better job of showing the signs .They are being cut off at the bottom.
