      Imma be completely real here, I used to like the colors story. And guess what, I still do. But I don't like the dialogue. I still thing it's good though. And that's because kid me enjoyed it. You may not like it but a kid would definitely laugh at Sonic's jokes. They were simply trying to cater to the kids in the fanbase. Just because he makes cringy jokes doesn't mean it's of no value.
      One adults trash is another kids treasure.

    Hedgehog engine was a lighting engine. It just made the games look pretty. The actual physics engine used was Sega’s first build of Havok. Havok was later rebuilt from the ground up for lost world, but sucked, and an altered version of SEGA’s second Havok build was used for forces

    HE engine is a lighting engine not a physics engine, I had the same misunderstanding before too lol. Unleash/Gens use Havok for physics, and both of them do have slope physics better than frontiers.

    Why are you talking about maintaining boost for perfect chaos? That has nothing more to do with this boss than every other level in the game. The only reason you don’t reach him is because you keep jumping for no reason throwing away all of your speed.

    HOLY! This video is on an entirely new level, it really feels like a month of work. The editing is smooth as butter, I had to pause twice because of how clean some moments looked. The commentary is impressive and detailed. I especially liked the mini analysis of Crisis City's music, and how the video doesn't overcompliment the game but doesn't frame it as the worst game in the series. This is definitely a new standard.
    Just a reminder that this channel doesn't even have 1k subs YET. If you're reading this you should change that.

    Tails tube literally confirmed the timeline split wasn’t a real thing
    And you can’t say it’s not true because it from the official sonic the hedgehog RUclips channel
    If the timeline split did occur all it did was delay the events that would lead to sonic adventure as Izuka said that sonic superstars takes place before sonic adventure
    And all classic sonic saw was just the locations he will visit and he doesn’t know the context on why he is going to places like spagonia or why a gun truck is chasing him and he visits them is also different at the start of city escape he doesn’t land from the air after escaping a gun helicopter he starts in the middle of the park before getting chased down
    And he might know what his friends may look like but he doesn’t know who they are (except for charmy, vector and espio probably) or the context on how he met them
    Plus sonic lives in the moment he doesn’t often think about his past adventures unless something reminds him of in my personal interpretation is when classic sonic and classic tails returned they probably got some kind of amnesia as that would explain why he wouldn’t be remember it I mean that would makes sense why after forces in mania adventures sonic immediately to go after robotnik plus thanks to IDW apparently the phantom ruby has amnesia effects

    2:29 there’s a setting in frontiers that lets you jump while boosting. If you mix that with no jump deceleration, you won’t have that problem anymore

    Originally, generations wasnt received well by fans, because of the lackluster story and short playtime. Due to its incredible leveldesign, tight controls and mods, it just happened to age like fine wine, not just preserving its value, but enhancing it.
    Another important part to consider is that sonic generations was 30 USD on launch, which makes it compare more with something like sonic gems collection or sonic origins.
    If you look at it like that, its a fantastic, higheffort game

      the price thing makes some sense, but Mania was 20, and forces was 40, so a relatively lower price won't make an ok game good. Part of the recent positivity on generations is also how easy it is to get, and for much less than on release, along with just being a great game. Also, all three of the games you mentioned released in different decades with different average game prices.

      @@SonicDaHog mania is a 2d game, ofcourse it would be less expensive. generations was very clearly an aniversary title as in the entire games context was around that, thats why i compared them to other anniversary games. At the time it came out, i never expected an expansive story with the premise of "its sonics birthday" and honestly i dont understand why anyone ever did. I pretty much got what i expected, except planet wisp and the shitty time eater boss fight.
      I blame sonic colors for the shitty planet wisp stage. I hated colors from day 1 and its shitty NES style 2d level design. At the time ppl still worshipped it like it was sonics great return.
      Sa1,sa2, and generations are the only 3d sonic games i actually replayed over and over due to how well the stages are designed, so im not suprised it held up. I hope shadows portion is going to be the same. Sofar im not impressed tbh

    Glad you spoke out about some of Generations flaws - just because it's a great game doesn't make it immune to a few blemishes! I think overall the reason why people like Gens so much is due to the simplicity of how it all works, but not in a dumbed down/trying to cater to all audiences type of way like in Sonic Forces. For me though I still have Unleashed over it because the daytime stages not only nail the sense of speed and that quick thinking platforming synonymous with the Boost gameplay, but overall the longer levels and higher difficulty curve activate those particular spots in my brain that truly gets me engaged with the game I'm playing. Overall though amazing video, it's giving me some inspiration on what to work on for my own Sonic video :)

    Fun fact(or maybe not): most of the generations dev team left sega for Nintendo in 2012 after Mario and sonic at the London olympics. Some of which went on to develop Mario odyssey.

    Let's see.
    Good thing about 06: The level design. P-06 really shows that it was mostly the physics holding it back.
    Bad thing about Unleashed: How long it takes to max out the Werehog. Especially compared to regular Sonic
    Good thing about Colours: The look & aesthetic of each planet. You can have a feel on what each was like before & after Eggman took over.

    Find it funny because when I first did sky sanctuary act 1 I even got the achievement for not dying to bottomless pits, I actually love how OP the spin dash is & learning when to use it to shave off seconds from a stage. I wish S-Ranks were harder to get. Also Planet Wisp just fucken sucks glad we can agree on that.

    Generations does have slope physics during modern Sonic gameplay. You'll accelerate faster going down, and slower when going uphill. You can also use an upward incline in order reach higher altitude when jumping assuming you have some speed, there's even an orange ring in Chemical plant act 2 which requires for you slope jump to reach it.

      It's pretty noticeable when you're not boosting, but I've noticed that when boost slope jumping, sonic loses horizontal speed in the air. Might be an air boost thing but it's really annoying

      Yeah, keeping the boost after a jump will kill horizontal momentum very quickly. So letting go of boost just as you jump is the key, similar to how one would let go of a directional input in the Mega Drive games during a jump to prevent the speed cap from setting in.

    You are looking at a class as half empty rather than half full. The story is, a dark creature has a power that can manipulate time and space. The creature makes future meet the past, so those to timelines must work togheter to stop the creature and get everything back to normal. Yes I'd say story is really good for what it was trying to do...

    I am a massive defender of the 2010s games, _especially_ the stories. I think the stories of those games are good in their own right, or at the very least harmless. Whenever I see people critique the story of this game, it's always seems to because they didn't try. But the thing is, that's perfectly fine. Sonic games don't need in depth stories to be good. If they just want to focus on gameplay, then let it be. Lots of people keep complaining about the fact that the story is low effort, yet never question if it actually brings down the game experience. Less != worse. And in the case of Forces, more != better. You can't criticise something that they weren't trying to do.
    On that note, I also would like to defend the classic Sonic gameplay. A lot of people like to bring up the point that the physics aren't accurate to the genesis games. Once again, do they question of it actually brings down the game experience? No. These levels were not designed for accurate classic sonic physics. Just because it's not 1:1 doesn't make it bad. What makes it bad is bad controls. And in my opinion I think they're pretty good. I may be a little untruthful here since I've been using the classic Sonic improvement mod for so long, but I never had any problems when I first played the game.
    Now for the level design, I don't see a bad level at all tbh. I never had such problems with Sky Sanctuary Act 1, so I don't know what you're talking about. I mean, just look at that last clip there. You bounced down, that's bad polish not bad level design. And for Planet Wisp Act 2, I love that stage tbh. It's crazy how many skips you can pull of in the tower factory section if you know what you're doing. Here's a tip, make sure to use your rocket wisps in every possible place, you'll find some great shortcuts.
    Lasty, I just want to take time to appreciate the beauty of this game. Hedgehog Engine 1 and 2 always looks great, no matter what game it's in, and this one is no exception. I love how they reimagened the old stages in HD. Beautifully crafted. 👏
    Bonus: just wanted to appreciate the work put into this video. I like it when creators organize their thoughts so it's much easier to digest. And I'll do you one better.
    06: Music, art direction, and Shadows story/characterization
    Unleashed: performance, medal collecting, werehog stage length, and the DLC stages.
    Colors: Music, art direction, level design, wisps, graphics, presentation, polish, 2 player, super sonic use, bosses, etc
    Colors was my first game ever, and it is, still to this day, my favorite.
    Great videos all in all. You just gain yourself a new subscriber!

      One thing I'll give to Forces modern is that the backgrounds and original settings look really alive and 3 dimensional, like the city and metropolis. Classic ones look pretty flat.
      My biggest problem with PW2 is that it's primarily vertical gameplay which is pretty boring when you're not going that fast. I'm not gonna say that I like it, cause I think it's the weakest level.
      I don't think the classic levels were designed that well for it's physics, because of the slow walk speed and insane spindash speed.

      The story of generations was fine until the time eater part. At that point the story took a nosedive. The potential of a menacing boss that could wipe away time and all of existence, squandered and reduced to nothing more than a tool for the Eggmans’ big plot.

      @@fatzigzagoon that's a valid story criticism. And I think this also plays into final boss. Not only is the time eater pathetic in story, but also in gameplay. Most final bosses in Sonic seem threatening. This one? Nah, it's constantly running away from Super Sonic. Can't even knock him back. Only pushes him, and you can boost to negate all damage done.

    1- i don't really hate 06 and i can say a bunch of good things,
    but i'll just say the story
    2- that's hard since unleashed is my favourite, but i'd say that how the citizens react to eggman when he comes threatening them wasn't handled pretty well especially because this isn't the first time he does something evil, he literally destroyed the moon in adventure 2
    3- i didn't play colors so i'd say the soundtrack since it's the only thing i know about it (aside from the bad story and over-used 2D)

    In terms of inspiration, Generations represents such a huge step down from Unleashed...
    Being revisionist about Classic Sonic as this pudgy, cute, chibi version of Sonic was also a third-rate move. In fact Classic Sonic should have never existed as an actual character tbh. And remaking him in the way they did only made it look and feel more uninspired and directionless

    Oh, and you need way too much exp to max out the werehog.
    Oh, the QTES suck.

    06 has the best soundtrack in the series imo
    Unleashed is dragged down by how long werehog stages take to complete

    Alright.
    -06 had its soundtrack, and its level design is nice, only hindered by the awful physics and controls
    -Some parts in Unleashed can be infuriatingly difficult, and the werehog needs some time to be really enjoyable
    -Where do I even begin with Colors? The soundtrack is still gold, the main acts are well designed (keyword: main acts), the game is beautiful, I don't know how they managed to run something that looks like PS3/Xbox Unleashed on the Wii, and one percent of the plot is funny (yes, one percent)

    Haven't watched the video but I' assuming there's a QotD kinda thing so I'll try to answer
    Good thing abt 06) Introduces Silver, my fav character of the franchise besides Tails, and a pretty sick villain in Mephiles.
    Bad thing about Unleashed) Daytime Sonic is too ham to control and more often than not I'd end up dying from something the game would ask you to do, and some of the level design, especially missions and extra acts, have some of the most unfair level design in all of the series history, right on par with the Advance games even if 2 wasn't as bad as 1.
    Good thing about Colors) It introduced the Wisps which I do not hate and would defend with all my might. They're neat little guys, they don't deserve to be so shat on. DS is my fav 2d Sonic game by a long shot, too.

    What? 4:00 there is slop influence in Sonic generations the levels just don’t require it to beat the stage
    It’s not exaggerated because of the boosts speed
    If you play sky sanctuary during the indoor section next to the teleporter there are angled floors you can slope jump off of to skip the extra jumps and land on the teleporter

    Classic sonic is underrated in gens:
    I see it as a different aproach to his gameplay than his genesis counterparts
    sonic generations as a whole is made with perfecting your times in mind and through the use of the spindash and the linking of skips through memorisation of levels like SA1

      I agree with the game's philosophy on memorization and skips, but the spindash is almost impossible to use because it's so fast you can't react to anything. Any spindash or spindash jump is basically rng on whether you go where you want to. If you don't then he's just really slow and boring

    my opinion on the bosses is that silver is the best one (and no i’m not saying that just because silver is my favorite character)
    he’s the only one i actually go to replay just for fun, the amount of times i got absolutely pissed off by egg dragoon only giving me a two millisecond window to actually hit it, or how absolutely irritating it was trying to figure out how to beat the timeeater while i watched my ring count drop, OR just… being so bored during my shadow fight because it was just boost to win
    also, for your questions, one, 06 had some of, if not the best characterization for shadow, plus it made silver exist so yk, gotta give it points for introducing my favorite sonic character ever
    two, i really just don’t like the missions in unleashed (or side quests in general tbh, not just with unleashed), they can be fun, totally, but i prefer to just not do them and stick to the main storyline unless i’m going for 100%
    three, colors is my favorite sonic game ever, i love the wisps, especially zooming around aquarium park with the drill or going frenzy in asteroid coaster, the soundtrack (barring sweet mountain because i’ve heard that ost on loop for too long to be able to like it anymore…) is amazing, and reach for the stars is just. its reach for the stars. i will hate ultimate forever just for changing reach for the stars.

    Hel is the mostly the graphic engine tho. The physics during the gen's phase was havok, which i believe they lost access to
    Which is pretty sad. But hey, at least some mods fix and try to simulate older physics and even improve them
    But overall i do agree with most of the points,returning to generations was a bit stressful

    When it comes to gameplay, I find modern 2d in generations to be a lot of fun. However, I do get why someone would want modern sonic to be only 3d, as half the game (classic) is 2d.

    my favorite song in Generations is City Scape act 1, that electro remix is goated, it is also my favorite classic sceneario, is so much fun and i think it uses the Gun Truck spectaculary as a literal part of the whole scenario. It's closely followed by Sky Sanctuary, you hate it but i love it, you're just spindashing in the wrong areas.
    My favorite modern scenario has to be Rooftop Run, look, i played Unleashed for *years* in my childhood ok? I love the game, i dont care. Outside of it, it would be Speed Highway.

    1. I like Shadows story a lot and his theme is good

    1. Mephiles and Silver are one of the coolest characters in sonic
    2.Collecting medals to unlock stages was tedious
    3.Uhh.... music....? this is the most npc thing you can say when asked for good things about a sonic game but i genuinely think colours is incredibly mid, like 5 or 6/10 but i guess that the one meteor level was cool

    So what I’m getting about classic sonic physics is that generations is overpowered. And in forces, it’s clunky and underpowered. I still prefer generations over forces. Also sorry my rambling but the developers need to get rid of the “homing shot” dialogue in the final boss

    1. All lot of things! And it’s sad that 06 doesn’t get the credit it deserves for the good aspects. The different playable characters definitely being the best. With a few exceptions like Amy, Knuckles, and Rogue, everyone was so much fun to play. Blaze had the best movement in the game, and her charge spin attack was pretty fun to mow enemies down with. I loved how they integrated Gamma’s gameplay style into Omega, and he could glide infinitely and break the levels lol. Silver’s abilities were really cool and unique. I loved how everyone played and wish they’d bring their moveset back in future games
    2. Idk I was poor and never could afford games
    3. Gameplay is amazing! The story… yeah no.

      Idt it's a bad idea to give a positive light to formerly horrible/hated games, nor a negative light to formely perfect/loved games.
      The Werehog deserves to be loved by some people and defended for the fun combat, as much as Generations deserves to be the least favourite for being bare-bones in terms of playable content, story and even difficulty.
      But when you start clowning on people's opinions when their reason for having that opinion is substantial, or at the very least not a pretentious biased take, that's when the problem starts.
      Complaining about trivial things or being like "Sonic 1 is way too fast/emphasizes too much on speed" is warranted for ridiculization cuz it's such a pre-made takeaway that ends up not being even true. And speed is Sonic's whole thing, it's what makes him stand out.
      But sometimes, complaining that Sonic isn't fast enough in a game where he's actually slower than usual or that he goes way too fast in an instance where you can barely react to what's coming on screen -(Unleashed)- are valid
      Took me til this moment to really think that it's wrong to clown on people's opinion until they say why they have it, cuz until you show you have a similar opinion but in a different game for a valid reason, you just think they are wrong and assumed things before listening to them and having them explain their experience, which could have been an awful one instead of your amazing unforgettable one, and then you start to feel like a hypocrite asshole for judging them for essentially being the same as you are, just in a different context.
      Sonic in the first game isn't that fast, he's fast enough.
      In Unleashed, he can go so fast that at some points it looks like you're just going through a picture show of random frames until the game goes back to normal, and I assume that even on modern hardware that there'd be too much flying onto the screen.
      I think that admitting that it's not the game's problem in some cases can help you out, but otherwise, it just seems like you're being too much of a hater for the sake of it.

    I'm working on my own vid for generations and u can certainly light speed dash on any rings not just the highlighted ones. I was also able to react to some. Great vid but you should've tried the light speed dash on diff sets of rings

      Dang, really. If this is true, the game shouldn't need something so obvious to tell people when to lightdash. Even when going fast in unleashed it's pretty obvious when I'm supposed to without having to spell it out. Also if this was true in gens, why does hedgemodmanager have a code for all rings light speed dash which gives all rings that glowy effect and the same thing in unleashed project

    Good thing in 06: I haven't played the game but. I'd say the music and the models. Also shadow's characterisation is lowkey peak
    Bad thing in unleashed: it's my favorite game so I don't have a lot of bad things to say about it but. The first phase of the dark Gaia. Fuck that
    Good thing in colors: I've played ultimate only and loved everything about it. A good thing about it is art style and aesthetics of the game. Best looking sonic game. Also. Starlight Carnival. I love you

      @@SonicDaHog I got it in November which is like when some of the major glitches were fixed. The last fix was in Jan 2022 and it fixed most of the major ones. Tbh I have only experienced like 2 or 3 glitches other than that it's mostly fine. And I got it on the switch at first then on the Xbox in may of this year. It's just sonic colors with better controls from what I have heard from the original game. Not the best remaster but it holds up well because colors is a fun game. If you have it on PC you could get mods to fix the rest of the issues and it'll be just fine tbh. I'd recommend project rerainbow by bluwolfblitz. I've seen footage and it fixes the visuals for the people who didn't like it. Also if you're gonna buy colors ultimate then make sure to change the controls because stomp and boost buttons are reversed

    2. I dont like how a lot of the stages in unleashed our city levels. I'd like it if it had more levels based on the surrounding area, and even though I'd sound like a hypocrite, they should have made a neon city level in japan. It would have been dope,

    you can maintain a boost in mid air in frontiers. there's a toggle for it. Also the hedgehog engine is just the lighting engine . i'm pretty sure they used havok for the physics.

    This is my take on the video:
    Story: True, this game's story is not the best, but it is serviceable for the kind of game this is--
    2. I feel Classic Sonic's rendition of the physics is perfectly fine, and the crazy spindash is perfect imo. Sure, no rolling speed is depressing, but I prefer controlling this Classic Sonic SO MUCH MORE than the Genesis games.
    3. I still feel like everybody is gaslighting me by saying Crisis City is the best Act 2 level. That is a fucking lie, Crisis City 2 absolutely blows, and it feels like it is actively attempting to avoid you completing it. Same with Sky Sanctuary 2. Planet Wisp is not that bad even without glitches, and I know, because air-boosting to cut cycles is absolutely beautiful in PW 2.
    As for Classic Sonic, the only trash level is Seaside Hill. The other 8 are great.
    4. I have nothing to say here, all ya said is true and I coincide--
    5. The music is great in this game, and most remixes are absolutely beautiful.
    In conclusion, Sonic Generations is great, but not perfect!

    15:34 oooor...they can just have kishimoto design the bossfights i know he's not a exactly perfect but he's a good game designer...and if there's one thing he can consistently pull off is designing an actual good bossfight!
    the games he worked on
    Sonic and the secret ring(even though this one was bad)
    Sonic and the Black knight (and this one was decent) they all had goos bossfights!
    And recently with sonic frontiers he nailed the titan bossfights out of the park!

      I honestly think classic Sonic was done perfectly in Generations. A lot of the complaints in the video I disagreed with because classic Sonic feels great to control. I think Rooftop Run Act 1 is classic's best stage.

    The problem with the modern 2d parts are the fact they are there in the first place. We already have 2d gameplay in classic sonic. If I want to play 2d I’ll play classic. I want to play 3d not 2d (when I play modern)

    The story is harmless and honestly the stories are NOT that important. Also yeah bro idk what you’re on but there aint no alternate timeline or aint like that. Also Classic Sonic is NOT that bad. You dont even need the momentum for the Level Design y’all are kinda overreacting there lets be honest none of y’all actually try to use momentum in Gens dont even. Sonic Team knew that it wasn’t 1 to 1 so the added two solutions. As for sky sanctuary thats not even the game’s problem its yours lol have you played a Sonic game you gotta replay it.       I remember playing through Sky Sanctuary and not experiencing the random pitfalls unless I messed up. The jumping cloud part where he made a little hop and fell, I never had that happen to me at all.

      I KNOW. I saw it in my second last test before posting and it absolutely killed me. But it was probably too late to record more speed highway footage so I left it in.

    5:42 the water quite LITERALLY pushed you down into the water section at that part so of course you aren't gonna be able to jump its to force you to go through the water path bro..

      That's probably part of it but I can jump normally at the top. In this case sonic didn't even leave the ground but left the rolling state and started running

      @@SonicDaHog its to stop you from escaping as in most sonic games when you spindash and jump under water you get a super jump

    Something good in 06 its the story for me something bad in Unleashed its the wherehog
    And something good in colors? The whisps when they are introdush they are good if they don't use much whisps maybe they would still be good 18:49

    Sonic Frontiers' Cyberspace might be a downgrade in terms of everything but there's some positive things about this game shouldn't be disregard.
    1. The spindash redeemed cyberspace instead of boost through levels younjust escape through levels now lol..
    Idk if the spindash was planned for the second update or was the result of the fan feed back but either way it was good however kishimoto and sonic team made a suprising move with the spindash they made the spindash superior to the boost..how did they do that? By giving it's own physical property...a brilliant move!
    2. The boost in Frontiers may seem like a downgrade however there's a massive however...here is that frontiers figured out how a boost game game should control..some the boost formula lacked because...uh sonic unleashed,colors and generations they all have a very slippery control..and we can already seeing it's impact amd effect on future sonic games aka shadow generations it's a Boosting game but it actually controls well.. better than colors, unleashed,forces and generations' controls..see what i mean like in a way.. frontiers was somewhat faithful to the boost formula in a way.

      I think frontiers would be a lot less fun without the power boost, base boost is so slow. But the spindash also breaks cyberspace s-ranks. I hope Shadow Gens controls better than frontiers and forces
