When I was 16, walked into Dixons in Brentwood High Street and got myself a Saturday job, working of a weekend and in the school holidays selling mainly walkmans and radios as the full time guys didn't want me nicking their sales on the larger ticket items. But I was working the day that Barry Hearn came in with his daughter, looking for a video recorder. I ended up selling him a Dixon's own brand VCR (Saisho). He said he didn't want a flash one as he just wanted it for his bathroom. I wasn't sure if that was a joke or the truth to be honest, but anyway, he bought it. I was a bit nieve and didn't know who he was, even though i'd heard of him, but a couple of the other guys in there spotted him. I must say, he came across as a nice, 'normal' customer, there was nothing pretentious about him at all. Seemed a right nice chap. Interesting to see how he and Eddie are doing now.
Love Barry Hearn for what he has achieved in sport / business. He’d also make a great Chancellor! I mean let’s face it, who’d argue against a positive thinking guy like Barry who is more often than not right?

This is nonsense. Barry Hearn was short of £300,000 of sponsorship for a snooker event. He was saved by the pity of a bloke with the same name who left him sell £300,000 worth of hotel rooms ? Why couldn't Mr Hearn of Trusthouse Forte sell these hotel rooms himself ? Surely Hearn the Hotelier would get more for them than Hearn The Promoter ? And why ask for £300,000 when £180,000 would do him ? He thinks he unbeatable if he survives by an act of Christmas generosity ? Hmmmm. Just shows how much self-regard matters to these promoter guys.
