What I like about these smaller bodied guitars, and particularly with a mahogany top, is what you lack in dynamic range, you get a consistency in tone across different pick attacks. For certain styles of playing this can be very much preferable. I love my OM style guitar (spruce top, rosewood back and sides), which affords more bite than the mahogany but has a nice level sound across a wider range of attack.
You’re spot on RE the mahogany topped tone. I used to own a Martin D-15 (bought new back in the mid 90s). No frill, but solid mahogany top, sides and back. Sounded amazing; wish I still had it.
They sound and play way better than my first and second guitars back in the late 60's, and for much less $$! (Adj for time). It's a great time to start playing guitar!! JMHO 8) --gary
Awesome sounding/looking guitars! I’ve always been a Martin fan, but their decision to use HPL on everything south of $700 is disturbing. I owned a Little Martin, made from the stuff, and though it sounded great it felt like cheap plastic. At this point, the only Martin I still own and love is my 2016 D-18E Retro. Now, saying all that, Sigma is to Martin as Squire is to Fender, and I LOVE the fact they are still making WOODEN guitars at very reasonable prices. No Formica here. Good for Sigma and great for players!
The veneer on the mahogany one that Pete played first is, on camera at least, stunningly bad. Looks like someone took a picture of a mahogany top, "aged" it in photoshop, printed it out on a home printer, and glued it on. That said, it's always a pleasure to hear Pete and Ben jam.
C.F. Martin made guitars for the Oliver Ditson Company in the early 1900's...they were one of the first to sell the "Dreadnaught" unfortunately Ditson went out of business during the great depression era.
What I hear from the guitars at the very cheap side of the spectrum (under £400) is that they lack the amount of sustain, depth, bass and volume that the dearer guitars have but that is totally forgivable and obvious of course. But these still sound great and look the very part. What's not to like? 👍🏻
Mahogany laminate probably a sapele laminate because Mahogany is honduras Mahogany. I mean the reál one but if it would be from honduras Mahogany we can nőt afford it. ❤Anyway it has a good sound!
I had one of the original MIJ Sigmas and sold it to pay rent back in the 80s. Bad decision. Should have kept the guitar and sold my car. Hard as hell to find one of those now.
Yeah fairly expensive, there are all solid sigma’s now at $2000, $3000 and $4000 (all solid Koa). I own an all solid Adirondack/Madagascar Sigma dread it’s fantastic. I have ‘better’ guitars like Collings, H&D, banner Gibson and luthier built instruments and the Sigma probably gets the most play.
Always a treat when we get to see these two play together.
Great to see Ben back and playing like a champ!
Pete looking better than ever. Definitely an inspiration right now to shed some weight and get better at the axe🤘
Pete & Ben on point as per usual! Awesome jam!
I've owned a 1981 Sigma D-18 clone licenced by Martin since 1990. Still a wonderful instrument!
Oh, damn. LOVE that open grain on the top of Pete's guitar in that opening jam. Sweet!
Well if you want to sell guitars, that’s the way to do it, just get Pete & Ben jamming 👍
I more for a pecan danish

thinking of buying a GC-15E AGED ...played it at a local music shop ...it sounded amazing for an all laminate guitar :)
Ditson is a cheeky name for a guitar company 😏
They look so happy ❤

Incredible sound for the price, today also laminated guitars are on a high level....like it!
Pete and Ben my absolute faves ,I always click fast when I see these two together ❤️
Outstanding value for the price!!!!!
Another great video. I would love to see a noise gate shoot out.

@Randy Lewis really? This is the first I’ve heard of that. I always thought it was like Gibson and Epiphone.

000's sound pretty awesome for the price, dreadnaughts seem to lack a little bass
Outstanding value for the price!!!!!¡
Ben could make a Hello Kitty Ukulele sound like a high-end instrument. Well done!
Please review Sigmas higher end guitars! Their Gibson Country Western, and Martin D45 12 fret open headstock type guitars specifically
Solid top?
Nice demo a.tanglewood crossroads ha £99 tho and they are lush
Top pickin guys 🥃cheers no bad guitars. Stay safe and respect.
Pete in a pink sweater … that makes him look a little bit pale😉 👍🏻nice playing

Damn, not available in US.
Andertons ships to US. I bought a set of DP51T tele pickups from them...no issues.
What is the number box in the right background?
A decibel meter

@@andertons Thanks... I should have known that!

To my ear, as far as budget guitars go, the Eastcoast range sounds better.

Boys on that phantaramene
Pete is looking and playing fresh as hell, might knock the booze on the head for a while myself 😮
So these are the cheap version of cheap martins? Nice
Ok, wait.
Budget Sigma guitars? There are expensive Sigmas?

Come on Andertons...pay these guys a bit more so they can eat properly , they are both wasting away!....
I reckon Lee runs it like a gymnastics team now and they only get a handful of muesli twice a week.
@@davedavem Yes, a Russian gymnastics team. Perhaps they are locked away and only brought out to make these videos
