The championship journey of SSS Kabalikat commenced on a positive note as they secured a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series of this year’s UNTV Cup Finals.
In Game 1 of the finals, SSS Kabalikat emerged victorious against the Agriculture Food Master with a score of 90-81, marking their inaugural finals triumph in the annual UNTV basketball tournament. This game unfolded on March 26 at the NOVADECI Convention Center in Quezon City.
Former PBA player Macky Escalona played a pivotal role for SSS Kabalikat, nearly achieving a double-double with 19 points and eight assists, alongside four rebounds and three steals.
SSS Kabalikat seized an early lead in the game, establishing a commanding 17-6 advantage with 6:11 remaining in the first quarter, courtesy of Escalona's three-pointer, concluding an impressive 11-0 run.
By halftime, SSS Kabalikat had extended their lead to 23 points over the Food Master, with the score at 50-27, propelled by consecutive jump shots from former Philippine Christian University Dolphins player Lisztian Amparado, who finished the game with 24 points and six rebounds.
Despite the Food Master's attempts to stage a comeback throughout the game, SSS Kabalikat consistently responded to maintain their lead.
The historic appearance of SSS Kabalikat in the finals garnered support from numerous officials and personnel, who cheered enthusiastically for the team.
