- പത്മരാജന്റെ അനശ്വര കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളായി പ്രേക്ഷകർ നെഞ്ചേറ്റിയവരാണ് തൂവാനത്തുമ്പികളിലെ ജയകൃഷ്ണനും ക്ലാരയും. മോഹൻലാൽ പകർന്നാടിയ മണ്ണാറത്തൊടി ജയകൃഷ്ണനെന്ന കഥാപാത്രം ഇന്നും ജീവിച്ചിരിപ്പുണ്ട്, ഉണ്ണി മേനോന്നെന്ന പേരിൽ, 80 ന്റെ ചെറുപ്പത്തിൽ ആൾക്കുട്ടങ്ങളും ആഘോഷങ്ങളുമില്ലാതെ, ഉത്സവം കണക്കെ കെട്ടിയാടിയ ദൂതകാലത്തിന്റെ തിരുശേഷിപ്പുമായി, തൂവാനത്തുമ്പികളുടെ കഥയ്ക്കു പിന്നിലെ കഥകളുമായി.
Jayakrishnan and Clara in Thoovanathumbikal are the immortal characters created by Padmarajan which are still in the hearts of the audience. The character of Mannarathodi Jayakrishnan portrayed by Mohanlal is still alive today in the name of Unni Menon.

തൂവാനത്തുമ്പികൾ എന്ന സിനിമ അതി മനോഹരം. അതിലെ ബിജിഎം മും മഴയും ഇതുപോലെ സന്നിവേശിപ്പിച്ച ഒരു സിനിമ വേറെ ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു സംശയമാണ്. അതിലെ ജയകൃഷ്ണനെയും ക്ലാരയെയും മറക്കാൻ ആർക്കും പറ്റുമെന്നു തോന്നുന്നില്ല. പദ്മരാജന്റെ കാല്പനികത അപാരം. ഇതിനായിരിക്കാം യഥാർത്ഥത്തെ വെല്ലുന്ന ഭാവന എന്നു പറയുന്നത്.

മനുഷ്യർ പലപ്പോഴും ബലഹീനർ ആകുന്നത് സൗഹൃദങ്ങൾക്ക് മുൻപിലണെന്ന് പലപ്പോഴും തോന്നിയിട്ടുണ്ട്, പലപ്പോഴും നമ്മൾ നമ്മുടെ വാശികൾ മാറ്റി വെച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതും തോറ്റു കൊടുത്തിട്ടുള്ളതും സുഹൃത്തുക്കളുടെ മുൻപിൽ മാത്രമായിരിക്കും, ഇത് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അറിയാതെ കണ്ണുകൾ നിറഞ്ഞതു എനിക്ക് മാത്രമാണോ? ഈ തൂവാനത്തുമ്പികൾ സിനിമ ഇങ്ങനെ മനസ്സിനെ കീഴടക്കാൻ എന്തായിരിക്കും കാരണം, എല്ലാവരുടെയും ഉള്ളിന്റെ ഉള്ളിൽ ഓരോ ജയകൃഷ്ണന്മാർ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും ചിലപ്പോൾ അല്ലെ? എന്തായാലും ചിത്രം ഇറങ്ങി ഇത്ര വർഷമായിട്ടും ജയകൃഷ്ണനോട് ഉള്ള ഇഷ്ട്ടം കൂടി കൂടി വരുന്നതല്ലാതെ ഒരിറ്റു കുറഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല......
അന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്ന സുഹൃത്തുക്കൾ ആരും തന്നെ ഇപ്പോൾ ജീവിച്ചിരിപ്പില്ല എന്ന് പറയുന്ന സമയത്തു അറിയാതെ video കുറച്ചു നേരത്തേക്ക് നിർത്തി വെക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു, വല്ലാത്തൊരു അവസ്ഥ ....... കണ്ണുള്ളപ്പോൾ അതിന്റെ വിലയറിയില്ല ...... സുഹൃത്തുക്കളെ കാണാൻ അതിനു ആർക്കുണ്ടു സമയം? നമ്മളെല്ലാവരും ജീവിതപ്പാച്ചിലിൽ ആണല്ലോ ...... അതെല്ലാം കഴിഞ്ഞു തിരിഞ്ഞു നോക്കുമ്പോൾ കൂടെ ഓടിയവരും മുൻപേ ഓടിയവരും ആരുമുണ്ടാകില്ല എവിടെയും ...... സൗഹൃദങ്ങൾക്ക് കുറച്ചു കൂടി നമ്മൾ വില കൊടുക്കണം ....... സുഹൃത്തുക്കളുടെ കുറവുകൾ നമുക്ക് പൊറുക്കാം ....... അവരെ നമുക്ക് ചേർത്ത് നിർത്താം ഒരിക്കൽ കൂടി.
