I don't, they are too expensive and I'm just an amateur. I can probably get more gains by training and dieting more effectively before I need a supershoe. Paying for a coach > paying for a supershoe.

For me it’s all about fit, comfort, stability and speed. The shoe I’ve found to tick all those boxes is the Saucony Endorphin Pro 3. They fit well, very breathable, very cushioned but very fast! The rocker just keeps me going without the fatigue in my legs.

Yeah, I’d love to see how the Adios Pro 3 compares. It’s what I’m using now for a lot of my runs, and, for me at least, I find it to be really good for my easy stuff but really shines when I pick up the tempo. I’m not that fast of a runner (despite what Runna says, I’m not going to get near the 3:25 they predict for my marathon in November), so seeing the comparisons from someone who actually is is nice.

I think these super shoes would be better tested for the distances they were designed for: half-marathon distance and above. I think we would be able to tell the personality of the shoe more the more tired we are and in the different strides and forms one would transition in a long distance run. I personally wouldn’t choose a marathon shoe for a 1K trial. Nonetheless, it is interesting to see which of these supershoes would do well in very short distances like in the video.

Another interesting addition to a test like this would be the Metaspeed Edge+. The Edge+ has the plate lower and the configuration is similar to the SkyV1. I don't entirely buy into Asics's cadence vs stride, but the Edge+ just lets me roll along once I hit that sweet spot. I've seen many posts on Reddit say it feels like the orginal Vaporfly.

Test by running same repeatable pace indoors (no wind, same temperature) starting from the same resting HR. The result which gives the lowest average HR over the distance can suggest the shoe which requires less effort over the distance.

Based on your feedback on the Sky+ feeling flat, it would be good to see whether the Edge+ suits your mechanics better if you havent already tried them. Id also be interested in this comparison as I would naturally prefer the Edge+ but 90% of reviewers always seem to prefer the Sky.

its important for all running shoes to test them out but especially for these class since you will essentially run your races at full speed in them. Went looking for these runs on your Strava as looks a nice road for such a test :) Couldn't see the actual runs but somewhere near Woburn I think. Not overly surprised a relatively firm shoe came out fastest in a 1K all out effort. Maybe these days the shoes are sufficiently close that it is more about how they feel to you. Of these, I have the Vaporfly 3 and Rocket X2 and did a similar test with mile reps at about my 5K pace albeit alternating on the same day. The Vaporfly definitely "won" for me but the Rocket X2 was still good too. Agree though that the Vaporfly 3 has a sloppy upper fit and I really had to pull in my laces a lot to get a good lockdown which seemingly was an issue for you here.

As a slow runner hovering around 5min/1k pace i can't justify any supershoe. Just switched from Clifton 8 to Mach5. I felt that the clifton became sluggish as a picked up the pace. Tried clifton 9 at the shop, still felt pretty slow (comfy though). I think there are a lot of hobby runners who would appreciate a pace comparison of universal daily trainers like Clifton, Mach, Saucony Speed 3...etc.

If you are around 5:00/km as your normal "training" pace (not race or max effort), you should jump on the carbon shoe wagon. The carbon shoes have very different mechanics from cushy jog trainers. Another thing is 5:00/km is around the separation point of running and jogging, which have different form and mechanics. When the same effort, just by changing form, you'll find yourself at a much faster pace, and have unlocked more potential space. In short, try one, you may find yourself not just faster for a few seconds, it could be up to 30s/km as cruise speed. (faster pace induced form change + efficiency of the shoe itself)

I'm completely the same as Andy - I splurged once on a pair of Hoka Carbon Xs, and loved the light upper, the energy return from the carbon plate, and the overall cushioning I associate with Hokas. On the other hand, the one pair of Ons I tried - one of their "Cloud" line - was so firm and so hard that I ended up returning them to the store after two or three runs. I have arthritic knees, now, so I'm all about cushioning, these days; especially as the only person I'm racing is the guy whose face I shave every morning.

Puma Deviate Elite 1, Alphafly 1, Prime X and Atreyu The Artitst have been good (the latter not really being a race option though). Endorphin Pro 1, NB RC Elite 1 and Adios Pro 2 have not been good for that distance, but solid options for shorter distance and workouts. Just picked up the Puma Fast-R and can't wait to try those out. They may replace the Endorphin Pros for the duathlon since they have a good tongue and heel tab to get the shoe on quickly.

The biggest difference between the Hokas and Nikes seemed to have a sweet spot on the forefoot, as if they're specifically 'tuned' to strike in a certain spot. The foam feels bouncier than the Vaporflys, maybe a little firmer, giving the impression of running taller. The Nikes are light, fast, comfortable but don't feel really remarkable in terms of responsiveness. The Hokas really feel more responsive than the Nikes. In fact, I think the Adidas Takumi Sen 8 feel more responsive than these Nikes. Also, due to the slightly wider footprint and more foam on the lateral side, the Hokas get the nod as being a bit more protective and stable than the Nikes. I will be using them primarily on the track for short distances and 400m training. I like the snug fit of the Hoka upper, similar to my Adidas racing spikes.

U need a bit more thorax rotation and core stability so the pelvis is not doing all the job. This ends to pronation of your feet and knee/hip dysfunction….
U definitely need a cushion shoe mate!!
Thanks a lot for the review!

Saucony makes two top-rated supershoes, the Endorphin Pro 3 and the Endorphin Elite. I know that you have to make choices about what to put in and what to leave out of any comparison video, but I'm a bit disappointed as I think more people would be interested in the Saucony shoes than say the On Cloudboom Echo.

Out of these shoes I’ve only used the Vaporfly. It’s interesting as I think they’re excellent. I find them really fast, I think I prefer them to the Alphafly. V2 were a let down, I tho k it was the upper they just felt dead but V1 were great and I still have a pair boxed

Good looking shoe by On Running but none of them are hideous to look at, they'd be too hard for me. Feel the Vaporfly Next% 3 has gone softer compared to the Next% 2 and is more for longer races now but the Hoka seems to be the natural progression from the Next% 2. I have the Meta Speed Sky V.1 and like them but they don't feel as enjoyable as some others.

Not the correct comparison for some of the shoes. What is your speed at mile 26 in a marathon? Energy return and cushion are key to running fast the whole distance of a marathon. A 1km race needs a super light shoe, which should beat any heavier shoe.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Unfortunately shoe brands will always be chasing revenue - while for athletes yes improvements are welcome, but so is consistency. Nike made two great iterations of the Alphafly/Vaporfly and then in their bid for more sales have created a shoe that is worse than its predecessors. I despair both because we lose some great shoes as every season comes to a close, and I know that as long as companies need to make momey this will never change.

Have to say my experience with the new Nikes have also been similar and disappointing. They feel kinda slow and energy draining tbh. I ran 16km in them last week sunday and it felt like an uphill battle despite them being new and perfect weather conditions. Meanwhile my adios pro 2 which has over 300km on them while running in severe rain was faster and smoother. Maybe its my running mechanics but damn I feel so dissapointed in the newest nike. Honestly thinking I should have stuck with adidas for my big runs this year.
