@@theblackbrit3727 first of all this is a Tyla video and I don't see how you're supporting her with this. Sho Madjozi fyi was managed by the same team that is managing Tyla. Madjozi had a fallout with the main dude after they were having a romantic relationship on the down low. After the whole thing obviously the chemistry died and they could not work together. That's the same duse that got Madjozi to meet John on Kelly Clarkson.
Americans are confused people. They said, Essence wizkid song is not afrobeats and couldn't win any awards, so how come they now say water and Tyler is afrobeats. Lol
The issues between Nigeria and South Africa have gone beyond the borders of Africa. Even though tyla's music isnt amapiano per say she knew she wasn't going to get backlashed in South Africa but the risk of her identifying her music with afrobeat would come with heavy criticism from both sides which to be quite honest it would be proper coming from ghana but anyway. It was smart of her to make the distinction yet keeping peace.
The presenter is incorrect to say Tylas water is "afrobeats" sound...That song is r&b on Amapiano beat... The problem is tht Afrobeats artists have from the beginning incorporated so much of Amapiano/south african sound to their music that to an unfamiliar ear, it all sounds the same & to some Nigerians that are unfamiliar with SA music, they think that that originated from Nigeria. Most of the big nigerian artists today, like; Burna Boy, Davido, wizkid lived and spent years in South Africa and adopted the sound that they took home and adapted to the nigerian market. Just look at all yhe hits of the last 10 years and you can tell the SA elements they use, especially if you know what music they were making before taking the SA influences...To international community, they dont care about these distinctions between Amapiano and afrobeats, but to us its important. I think the biggest thing is that nigerian artists should stop incorporating so much sounds that are not original to Nigerian. This also happened with South african hiphop, where our artists were trying too hard to sound American, with a little bit of SA elements... I think they should refocus on refining their sound and making music that is uniquely and distinctly Nigerian and cant be confused for anything else. Rema- azaman is an example of a distinctly Nigerian sound that isnt borrowing/adopting any other sounds from anywhere else and sounds good!!! Until then, international audiences will continue to grouo us and they dont mind cause they dont care about what we deem the difference to be...
