You can make unique ABS hard bodies!

  • The majority of RC car bodies are made of lexan.
Its toughness and light weight make it ideal for racers, bashers and crawlers.
Among its disadvantages is the fact that it's very difficult to glue and so lexan bodies are hard to modify.
ABS, on the other hand, is very easy to glue. While it is a lot more rigid than lexan, it's still spectacularly tough stuff. On the downside, it's heavier than its wobbly counterpart.
The advantage this video's intended to highlight, however, is the way styrene lends itself to the cost-effective manufacture of eminently modifiable vacuum-formed bodies. British firm Kamtec makes inexpensive scale model bodies in a variety of scales. All you need to create your own unique body is a couple of ABS bodies, a Dremel, and some PVC/ABS pipe glue from a plumber's factor.. Whether you shorten a car to make a truck cab,, or lengthen a body to fit a desired chassis, it's cheap to give it a try.. Why not?

To answer your last phrase in the video: Yes, you´ve been successful! 😊 A very informative and entertaining build video and the result is super! Then the small story in the drive video. You do it so well!👍👍😊😊 It's just sad that the Kamtec bodies are basically impossible to buy in Sweden, because shipping is way too expensive! 😢

This is the problem - the bodies cost seven or eight euros each, so of you're in Britain it's no problem if an idea doesn't work out - I just grab another body and start again.

      Hello, Guy!
You don't need inspiration from me to get seriously creative - I still consider your 124301 to be the definitive one, mechanically, as you have a lovely low final drive ratio.

Amazing project and what a super video, glued to the screen until the end. Thank you very much for an awesome video. Very cool truck and well, tremendous ingenuity and creativity. Thank you once again, like added naturally and fingers crossed for a 'Del350K4' Kamtec Special body, the company just might have found their new sculptor? Top trumps, what a 'next level', rc model project. Did not know of this 1/12 scale army truck too, so all in all, very nice 😊👍 Big cheers Sir 💯💯

      Hello!
I must say, I wish Kamtec did requests, like a DJ at a party.
Hmm...I'd ask for some pretty obscure cars!
Thank you for your very kind and encouraging comment.
The truck's a WL Toys 124301. They're terrible new, with only one speed and full lock-to-lock, or "bang-bang" steering. It's a great way to get an affordable 1:12 leaf sprung truck chassis. Pretty much the definitive RUclips-documented modified one is to be found at RC 3D Print Adventure. He has really allowed his 124301 to completely fulfill its potential.

Hello,Derek - why, thank you, sir!
It was a bit cheeky, combining a 1930s cab with a 50s back body, but I suppose it could actually exist, or have existed, in the real world.
      And it is quite pretty.

      Kaza! Thank you for watching!
Do you remember when you took a 1:12 Vanessa's Lunch Box body, and made it 1:10 scale? Well, when you did that I began to order Kamtec bodies, two or three at a time, and cut them and glue them... inspired by you and your work. For this reason I'm very happy that you watched this video, which is intended to encourage people to try doing the same : )

@@Rcfull Hello! I'm glad you like this little truck. The 124301 is always a tempting starting point when I get the urge to build a leaf-sprung lorry on a budget. The downside is the relatively frail drive train.
