I think this version is 100 times better than the remakes. Pino Donaggio composed a fantastic soundtrack for this movie and Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie were amazing in their roles and it's a shame they never won the Oscars that they were nominated for and also the song I Never Dreamed Someone Like You Could Love Someone Like Me should have been nominated for Best Original Song as Amy Irving's sister Katie sung this beautifully.
It's a really sad movie. In this story the horror does not come from a demonic possession, or the evil desire to destroy life and good. Carrie unleashed the horror as the answer to the true evil of her classmates and the stupidity of that college, whose mediocrity is that they're not happy unless they can humiliate someone (such as today's sitcoms and animated series joyfully celebrates). Carrie is not a freak because her power; her shyness and insecurity becomes her a victim of the classmates (and that horrible mother). They did not receive but what they gave. The true horror doesn't lies in the monstrosity of the others, but in our perverse way we relate to them, as a relationship of domination, hatred and destruction. How different is today's paranoid cinema , where we're simply afraid of any unknown thing: demons, zombies, aliens, terrorists or such, i.e. the other. I think today's horror movies are intolerant and racist.
I saw this film today. The old one, no modern crap. It came to me that many of the school shootings have been like this. Bullies run a kid to his wits end and when the kid explodes they kill both good and bad people together. You can call this a horror flick if you want but I think it's far more true than anything we ever are taught about what really happens to many kids. It's worse today. That one teacher stood up for her and tried to help. By the time I was in school in the 80's teachers would just stand and watch while you were gang beaten. Young people today tell me it is that bad and worse now. Bullies are domestic terrorists and need to be beaten half to death.
I love these beautiful horror movies, like this and Suspiria (by Dario Argento,1977) :). This movie has also inspired me to appreciate movies better than I once did.
Thanks for comment the video, I love this version, the 2013 version is really good because have an amazing effect of the psych power, but this one is better in many ways... well that's what I feel :)
In the book Carrie runs off the stage and then goes back. Only she is standing on the stairs outside the gym causing the mayhem. The book goes on for about another almost 100 pages telling about how Carrie not only caused stuff at the school but burnt down nearly half the town as well! It says in the book "447 people are now known dead, 18 more still unaccounted for. And 67 of the dead were Ewen (U-Wen) High School Students." Carrie dies after loosing blood from a stab wound from her mother..The novel was more intense that the 1976 movie version.
Jackie Beat in the 1974 novel, the black prom was more brutal and it did include the town destruction I believe it wasn’t included in the 1976 adaptation probably due to budget reasons
I actually created an account specifically so I could weigh in on the controversy. I can not believe anyone would think the 2013 version could compare favorably to the original. 1976 was a masterpiece of pacing, musical score and edge-of-your-seat hair raising suspense and also developed or further developed many screen techniques such as split-screen. The mother was wicked and deranged... Carrie started out abused and grew a spine... There was REAL acting in the original. Although the 2002 remake at least comes close, 2013 is a disaster..one of the worst remakes I have ever seen that held absolutely no suspense whatsoever. What was with those stupid, stupid hand-gesticulations? Young kids who just want a modern movie and a modern set of stars have no idea what goes into making a good movie, and 2013 IS NOT IT.
I like that this version seems like a nightmare or a horrid fairytale. Like a Cinderella from the 70s but very pathetic and sad. The new one lacks imagination. It just gives a chronoligical order of events with no sense of how miserable Carries life really was.
Just watched the remake tonight. It really isn't bad, and is in many ways very faithful to this version. But there is something about De Palma's direction that makes this version more unsettlling. And Spacek is peerless in this role.
when i first saw this movie it creeped me out, for its time it was definitely scary and well done. now however i thik the best adaption is the new one with chloe moretz, the effects are better, the prom massacre is more gruesome. this is a great film but compared to the new one this scene looks a bit outdated and a tad bit cheesy. but the feeling of the original will never be outdone more perfectly than this :)
While some might have laughed, much of the laughing is actually just in Carries mind. Miss Collins certainly wouldn't have laughed at her. But the humiliation and terror overcomes her so nobody is safe
Brilliant. All bullies should be made to watch this movie. See what happens when you do it once too often.
The best version
This is seriously the most beautiful, heart-warming conclusion to a movie of all time. Get 'em Carrie!!
i feel very sad for her when i see her face at 6:05 :(
I know! The very first moment she finds happiness it becomes the last. All because of a few small minded nasty natured brats

¡¡¡Excelente comentario!!!
Carrie 2 was the biggest mistake. Cant believe Amy Irving would stoop that low to making garbage.

Wrong , most “bullied kids “ aren’t even school shooters , they’re THE BULLIES
Can't feel badly for bullies.

Many victims of bullying wish they could do this to his stupid mates. Really, many of them deserve it.

Chris Osuna I was wondering what
for me what made this so cruel was they waited for her to be at the height of her triumph before cutting her down.

They had a very low budget. DePalma couldn't destroy the whole town.
Where were the stairs in the gym

Yes this 1976 version was sadder, more meloncholy, teary eye perhaps
Tim Singleton BULLSHIT!! 2013 VERSION WAS GOOD 2
YEAH
@@pierreblack1719obviously. The stands of the 1976 version just want to shit on that movie instead of enjoying the one they like

they shot that scene 3 times? poor Sissy always getting drenched in that goo syrup.
Love this movie alot. -Kirk
WHOA!!!!! I don't feel like I remember THAT part when I was watching at home. Maybe cause my TV was glitching.😶😑😫😖😜

So Tommy sacrificed himself to save everybody else and left Carrie to save herself how the hell does that help
eh, too low budget, not very climactic... and all that clapping.... i prefered the 2013 remake better..... but thats just me.
she should've some some telekinetic nut shots and wedgies.

They all should feel bad for what they did to her they all laughed at her that is worse thing u could of done!
While some might have laughed, much of the laughing is actually just in Carries mind. Miss Collins certainly wouldn't have laughed at her. But the humiliation and terror overcomes her so nobody is safe
Aaawwww poor her
