Fabulous Michael! Loved your thoughts and insights here! Believe me I’m in your camp with this release, very odd considering the other releases that should come first (Rubber Soul). I will NOT be getting the box set, not worth the high cost. I may get an individual album or two. Also very, very honored to get a shout out from you ! Long live The Tribe!! Cheers! Matt 🎼🎶🎵🇺🇸🇬🇧❤️🍻

I'm a huge Beatles fan, and I have bought the boxed sets , cds, remastered, ad nausem editions, including solo albums, almost all were well worth the purchase price. But these obsolete "American" butchered albums are a waste of resources in my opinion. Is a MAL edition of this British albums on vinyl next?? It never stops. This is gonna be a hard no on the set. GREAT VID, BTW. 🤜✌🤛🏼
Imo the following projects should be release
      *Star Club Tapes
*Stowe School 1963, discovered concert at a high school
*Let it Be, Sessions all the outtakes, etc. Nagra tapes, etc.
*Complete Live at BBC recordings, including ones with Pete Best, with the MAL treatment.

Preach on, Rev. Noland! I remember seeing the cover of The Early Beatles and comparing it back to Meet The Beatles, I asked myself “How come they look 2 years younger on Meet The Beatles?!” It’s because they were 1 year younger! I learned about Beatles For Sale through Hunter Davies’ book The Beatles. It was written by a fan who respected the Beatles. That’s why people still read it. But I digress.
Santa didn’t bring the red and blue albums last year. I’ll live. The biggest improvement was it gave Harrison some love on the Red Album.
Only one thing I can imagine will dash our hopes of the Rubber Soul box set we both dream of. And that’s a re-release of The Anthology albums. Let’s pray I’m worried for nothing!
That’s all I’ve got to vent about. Thanks for keeping us, the Tribe, informed!

@patricetremblay4128 As a Liverpool lad who bought all the albums as they came out, I only have two American copies. 'Meet The Beatles" which I got for historical interest and only listened to once. And 'Rubber Soul' simply because I had learned that it was the U S pressing, which so inspired Brian Wilson. Interesting, but the song selection is not nearly as cohesive as the UK pressing.

If you want a version of the albums that isn’t as good as the British versions then go right ahead. I bought Beatles 65 in the states about ten years ago and the sound was…..interesting. The transfer from the original master tapes left the US versions sounding a little thin. The answer was to swamp the whole thing in thick reverb. Kinda works on vinyl but on CD, the Capital mixes are all terrible

Here are my thoughts. I have only been collecting Beatles LPS since the re-release of the red and blue albums. Now I do realize that the best versions of their early albums are the UK pressings but right now they are only available for a high price on the secondary Market. And wish to have the oldest stuff in mono I can deal with this. And from what I understand it's totally analog from start to finish. Now if they re- release the UK versions of their older albums that's a different story

  • @thepaulhenderson
    @thepaulhenderson 2 месяца назад +3

These are old arguments, (the way Capitol packaged Beatle albums) these Capitol albums are American, and historically important. I never even saw (or knew of) the British Parlophone versions existed until '79 when regular record stores started carrying them. If you're a Beatles vinyl collector (that actually plays your records) you'll want these because these pressings of them promise to likely be the best pressings ever. Whats interesting, and what no one seems to have noticed, "HELP" and "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" are missing. Which likely means, like "RUBBER SOUL" they'll be coming in their own box sets later. If they're going on the 60th anniversary, that means next year "HELP" and "RUBBER SOUL" with "YESTERDAY and TODAY" the year after. And you know "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" will come with a Butcher Cover variation. I've been told the upcoming Parlophone Rubber Soul Box set may actually include a Capitol Mono version in it, making the the Capitol Mono rereleases complete. Many people, with me included, prefer the Capitol Rubber Soul. Regardless, if these new Capitols sound as good as the Revolver box set Mono, it will be well worth it. I'm hIf so, I'm happy to buy them because the old ones in unscratched playable condition are almost too valuable to play.

If you look at the price of the box at $299 and you can get the albums individually for a total of $179. Is it worth it for $120 extra when all you get is a box and The Beatles Story, which is kind of superfluous at best. Do we really need it? I’m kind of on the fence about it and the box is overpriced but I may pick up some of the albums. I hope they will do some more because I would love to have the American Help soundtrack which I prefer to the British version

  • @noahbody9747

I bought the American version of the Beatles albums back in the 1970s. Never knew about the UK versions. I did find and buy VJ's 'Introducing the Beatles' and the UK 'With the Beatles'. Once the UK versions came out on CD, I never listened to the American albums. Now I did buy Capitol's Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 boxed. I do listen occasionally to the American version of 'Rubber Soul', the only one of the American albums.
I probably will buy the box set, but wont' play them since I've packed my turntable away over 25 years ago. I also did buy the Rolling Stones Mono album box set.

I missed out on UK mono box set and I never had any of the US albums, so I am going to get them. I am not going to get a box since it has ridiculous price in Canada- 530 CAD dollars. If you buy them individually it is about 50 CAD a piece, so I am not paying $200 CAD for a cardboard box and Beatles Story. I am a bit intrigued how these records sound so I will add them to my collection

  • @ianz9916

I didn't think the price was as bad as a lot of people are saying. The McCartney singles crate was expensive, the Blue and the Red sets were expensive and you'd need to take out a mortgage to get the Mind Games Super Deluxe set. The American mixes on vinyl have been out of print for a long time. The UK remasters have come out in several releases since EMI standardised the canon in 1987. Another criticism has been the fact that the albums are very short so there's not much "bang for your buck". Well that's how the albums were back in the day and the manufacturing costs of an eleven track album are the same as for a fourteen track album. If you want quantity over quality there are plenty of other groups that can provide that. Personally, being from the UK, I prefer the UK albums but, I still have a genuine interest in the American ones.

Box sets released just in time for Christmas was always a reliable way of getting an uptick in sales for the all important holiday season in the past. This time, Capital want to recreate what American audiences heard when the US versions were first released. McCartney, Ringo and the estates of the deceased ex Beatles continue repackaging the same old music yet another time. Those old coots are both greedy and desperate. In this day and age, sales will continue being extremely low.

Capitol sold a CD set a while back that were the American versions of the albums. It was great hearing the echo-drenched versions of "I Feel Fine" and "She's a Woman." The way we HEARD them on the radio in this country. And just so you know, John Lennon liked them too.

I think the price for that box set, with no book, is at $299 right now. If you bought these separately, it would come to $180. So what is the point of buying the box set? You get the privilege of spending an extra $120 for the glorious Beatles Story and that fantastic box.😢 I will be like Matthew Sweet and get two or three albums.

Hello Mike, thank you for your video! I for myself haven‘t any use for this edition. How often they want me to buy „She Loves you“? I‘ve been a huge fan for more than 50 years, but enough is enough. They should have put out Rubber Soul or the Beatles In Mono Box Set from 2014 which is - together with my pressings from the 70s - the Holy Grail of my collection. Since then I‘ve bought a lot of new editions, but not now! Greetings from Berlin, Harry

To me, this compilation is probably more of a temptation than anything else. These are the albums that I wore out growing up, and it would be tempting to want to relive that nostalgia. But I sense that the thrill would probably wear off not long after I shell out all that money. Back in the 60s and 70s, I didn't think twice about spending my money on anything with the Beatles' name on it. I had Introducing the Beatles and The Early Beatles, basically the same album except for two songs. I was a little late in discovering all the British Imports, only to find that we had been ripped off by quality and quantity. Still I'm content with the versions that I grew up with because of the memories that go with the soundtrack. I think I'll save my money.

Maybe not all of them, but the track listing of Meet The Beatles and Beatles 65 are interesting. Yesterday and Today is an interesting sequence as well. Otherwise I prefer the U.K. versions.
I can listen to both stereo and mono versions of the US albums on Apple Music. The Beatles Second Album was actually the second Beatles album I got after the Rock and Roll compilation when I was a kid. So like you I have a bit of nostalgia for these versions.

I don't see shelling out that kind of money for these, but, when they do release a special edition Rubber Soul, regardless, take my money!

    Hello Michael:
I've been digging your content for quite some time, but never felt compelled to comment.
I have several copies of "Meet The Beatles;" a purple label copy that I bought brand new in '83, an amazingly clean 1968 copy that I bought used at an antique shop, and a very early mono Capitol Scranton pressing that had belonged to my wife's family,... it's really beat! The only copy of their second album that I have is in stereo. I have "The Beatles '65," but in stereo. I have "Something New," but again, only in stereo. I've never owned the UA soundtrack album. "The Beatles Story" was always an album that I could really care less about.
Here in the U.S., mono was, for the most part discontinued by the end of '67. By 1968 The Beatles in mono had been phased out. I've always wanted these U.S. albums brand new and in mono. So for me, this is very welcome! However, I absolutely will not pay $300.00 for the box set! That's just greed-gone-wild as far as I'm concerned! But, I will be picking them up individually.
I love your channel Michael and am now subscribed to the tribe! Take care!

Yes. It certainly wouldn't hurt to correct the drop-out that occurs in the left channel for a fair amount of "I Should Have Known Better." I don't know if every copy suffers from this, but my sole copy; a 1970 Winchester pressing does. It goes muddy, losing the left channel high end for a fair piece of the song. I agree with you, it would be nice to see that album get special treatment. It's an unusual album, but definitely essential when released and valued by those of us who bought it as a way of getting their singles only releases collected into a neat, compact package.

Honestly, it makes sense to rerelease The Beatles US catalog. Most Americans heard Introducing The Beatles and Meet The Beatles. The way Capitol Records released the singles is what made The Beatles popular here in the United States. The American albums and singles should be remastered, released on vinyl and digital downloads. The Rolling Stones catalog is this way and most fans enjoy it.

I will be sticking with my original copies of these albums (not first presses or anything like that). Just the ones I purchased as a young trouble maker in the 1970's. I would have liked if they had released each of the albums as a double album (except of course The Beatles Story) with one disk being the original stereo mix and the other the original mono mix. With new artwork for the gatefold. That would interest me. Of course the price needs to be reasonable.

I have my Beatles in Mono vinyl boxtet from 2014 and my stereo vinyl boxset. The Mono box was direct from the original UK analog master tapes. The stereo was mixed from the digital CD boxset. Are these new Capitol Album boxsets going to be the original Dave Dexter US mixes or use the UK mixes, like the US CD boxset ? Personally, I am happy with my UK albums and I think I’m going to pass this time. If any thing what we need is an all analog Stereo UK Album boxset reissue.

Now, at 57 years old, that album with those cookie cutter love songs is irreplaceable to me. But, I am going to stick with my copies of those "Capitol Albums Vol 1 and 2" CDs that were released way back. They have both stereo and mono versions of the songs on them. Pretty good.

I agree that this set is not exactly what us Beatles fans have been dreaming of. I might get the United Artists' "A Hard Day's Night," because I never bought that one back in the 70s or 80s. I've heard about the repeated verse that was edited in for "I'll Cry Instead" (which I always thought was an excellent choice to open "Something New" with), and the different-sounding vocal on "And I Love Her" from the film's soundtrack (single-track instead of double-tracked, right?), plus "Ringo's Theme." I never bought "The Beatles' Story," and didn't even hear it until about a year ago, when I listened to it on RUclips.

I'm from Denmark and prefer the original UK albums rather than the inferior, buthered US albums which contain only 11 or 12 tracks each. But I'm sure many US fans are thrilled. I was hoping that we would get the much anticipated, remixed Rubber Soul box set but it looks like we will have to wait yet another year or longer for that. Sometimes I wish they would listen to the fans.

I have even less interest in this then I did the Red and Blue rerereleases last year. Next year is also the 30th anniversary of "Anthology I". I would rather have seen an overhaul of the Anthology series and had saved "Now and Then" for "Anthology III". Believe it or not I was already familiar with the British versions way before the American ones. Back in the 70's I had somehow picked up the Apple / EMI 8-tracks from some store in the Chicago suburbs.

They will also be released individually. Some will be released as store exclusives on colored vinyl. (Meet The Beatles on light blue clear vinyl as an October Target exclusive). I myself just want whatever I can get on colored vinyl. I mostly just like Something New because the mono mixes differ from the UK Hard Day's Night mixes. These are supposed to be the true original US mono master mixes. I also want to get Beatles 65 because I have various variations of pressings of that album.

I bought the US Albums box set years ago. I'm good with those even though I never really listen to them. I don't like the song orders. I'm a second generation fan (b.1972), so I didn't hear most of the UK Beatles albums until I was old enough to buy my own stuff. The US albums are good for a completist like me, but after a while, it sucks buying stuff in rearranged order. The other thing I just thought of: I have the two volumes of the US Capitol albums. Those I do like, because the reverb is cool. They have a more open stereo sound while the US Boxed Set are the remastered versions of the songs which is a hit or miss with me. I like the remixes for the same reason as the two volume sets. The sound is different, so at least there's a redeeming value for me. Plus, they have the mono versions which I'm not a fan of, but I like studying sound, so that makes it worth getting. In the end, I wish we were getting Rubber Soul, but I can wait until next year. Hopefully, they remix the crappy Red Album versions of those. Actually, the red and blue records are the equivalents of the US Albums, in my opinion. Like, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, The Beatles stuff has to be listened to in its entirety. Best of collections rarely work except with Beatles 1 and Yellow Submarine Songtrack, especially for the remixes.

I have both Capitol Albums boxsets when they came out in the early 2000's on CD. They have mono and stereo mixes of the albums (although Capitol messed up the Rubber Soul CD by not using the proper mono mixes at the time). I'm surprised that Apple is allowing Capitol to re-release these albums with the original Capitol mono mixes.

I bought "Beatles Story" soon after it was released. I actually liked it. Then. Let's face it; The Beatles COULD have been a flash-in-the-pan, so I can hardly blame Capitol for exploiting the cash cow while they could. As far as this set goes, I bought the CD collection of American releases about a year ago and really only for nostalgic benefit. I have great memories of playing those albums on my record player and later on my $50 plastic stereo. Oh, and "The Beatles Story" is in that set. It remains unplayed.

Nice review/update, Michael. I have these albums in so many vinyl (and CD) configurations, while I appreciate and understand this release (the anniversary and nostalgia), I have very little interest in this box. Also, I have zero problem with The Early Beatles or the Beatles Story. They were part of Capitol's original Beatlemania Year experience. While I get what you're saying re Story release, A) Was part of the 1964 experience. B) It actually charted pretty high (#7 Billboard). C) Came housed in a very attractive gatefold album cover. Again, nice job on your review.

If they really wanted to "standardize" the catalog back in the 80's, why have they released the "American" albums 3 times since then? They always intended to double dip and sell both versions for maximum profit. Everybody should just pick their favorite version, buy it one time and be done with it.

Disappointing. As first gen Beatle fan from Australia, grew up with UK releases (Australian releases were the same and were pressed from UK metal masters on equipment sent to Aus by EMI). I have early pressings of the US releases, as I’m a mad collector, but never play them. They are from second and third generation tapes with added echo and of course don't follow the official UK releases. The albums also contain 11 to 12 tracks only, Hard Day's Night has four non Beatle orchestrated numbers and The Beatles Story is a waste of money. Won’t be buying this new release.

You know, Michael (great episode, BTW) I am surprised that The Beatles' camp (Paul/Ringo/Lennon's estate & Harrison's estate) agreed to this box set. I mean, of all the remixed songs they have (waiting to be released).......they decide to go with these LPs? You're right when you said The Beatles is a corporation and what is the main goal for a corporation......profit and more profit. Who cares about what the fans prefer. they'll probably buy this set anyway. Well, I'm not. Box set in U.S. is going to be $300 (U.S.) and, here in Canada (ouch) it's going to be..........a lot more. Also, Amazon informed me that each individual album will be $53.00. except "A Hard Day's Night", that will be $59.50. Say what??? Less songs, but, more moolah. Sorry, but this is out of reach for my budget. Also, in regards to this set, all of the albums were originally released in 1964, except, "The Early Beatles", which was released on March 22nd, 1965. Yeah, that makes even more sense to me. Okay, my rant is over. Thanks very much for listening.
