Thank you. It surpassed my expectations of what is possible with a piece of flint and natural materials.
I have never seen an original Neolithic axe with such a gloss polish. But some are still very shiny and smooth. It is difficult to tell quite how shiny they were when made, as often lithics will develop a gloss patination over time. So the patina may actually add to the shiny finish we see now.

@@davelink1318 Here in the UK there is a wide variation of Neolithic axe styles and the types of stone from which they were made. The geology differs a lot across this relatively small island. Along with trade and imported materials from what is now mainland Europe.
It is a shame that it is not possible to post photos in comments on RUclips, as I have seen many different original UK polished axes.

      Thank you.
.... A rest from hand polishing a stone, me thinks! 😅
Life's rather busy at present so I don't want to start any bigger projects. Just the occasional knapped piece.
In the future I'd like to grind a bigger axe. Ideally one I knap from patinated white flint to compliment this black one.
Also a polished discoidal knife would be cool.
Plenty I'd like to tackle, when life allows. 🙂

wow!! I've been following this project for a while now, and i was kind of curious to see the final result, and i can say its truly impressive!!
I'm an experimental archaeologist from Spain, and i was wondering if you would be up for a flint trade or selling me some of that black flint. I would love to recreate a polished flint axe like yours and a solutrean laurel leaf

Thank you very much, pleased you like how it turned out.
The problem with sending flint big enough for making core tools is the cost of postage. It's often far far more than the value of the stone. And of course so much of it is wasted in the initial reduction of the nodule. It would be better if I knapped a roughout first to reduce the weight. But currently I don't have any spare time for rock and knapping projects.
Keep in touch, and when I next get knapping again I'll see what I can work out. 👍
