It's interesting that there are still so many of them in existence 150 years later. I wonder if maybe the French government offered their inventory for sale to the public thinking they might have value as practical cutting tools to use around the farm, etc. By contrast it seems like many other bayonet types are much rarer, probably as a result of being scrapped en masse following their military service.
