    I used to perform this one in a medley of a chorus each of Circle Be Unbroken, I'll Fly Away, I saw the Light, then an instrumental break, come back with a chorus each of This Little Light of Mine, Do Lord, I've Got a Home in Glory land, then a 2nd instrumental break, and then end with the second verse of Circle Be Unbroken. and sing the chorus a capella... I'd end my show many times with this one and it was a real crowd favorite!!

    Rats. Just took “the leap” and bought an Oscar Schmidt based on a video. Haven’t even tried to play an instrument for 40 years. And that was me “strumming up” because I just flipped my brothers garage sale acoustic guitar because I’m lefty. No lessons. Just the Roy Clark boot (❤) and a wicked case of ADD.
    Now I want to string inverse so that my picking hand is still my dominant as I recognize that’s important on a banjolele and I’d rather re-learn and convert the cords for my right hand and get the picking/strumming correct.
    Love your style. Subbed.

    I Just recently started to play the ukulele and love your banjo strumming. I find it much easier on the last up of the double strum to use my first finger rather than my thumb. I don’t want to start any bad habits, what is your thoughts on this. I sure do love your style. TIA

      Hey John! Glad you're enjoying the videos!! Don't worry about it. If you find it works well for you that way then go for it! I can't see that it will cause you any major issues down the road. Using the flesh of the finger coming up rather than the nail of the thumb might give you a slightly different sound but I doubt it will be noticeable to be honest. Play around with it and go with what works best for you! Kelly

    Love your videos Kelly. Would you recommend a banjolele for an intermediate ukulele player.. I use a concert size. Don’t want to be too loud in our group. Want to get into some bluegrass music and fingerpicking. Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

      Hi Kathy! Glad you're enjoying the videos!! If you're interested in not being overly loud and want a nice warm tone I would highly recommend the DUKE 10 V3. These have a lovely tone and are not at all overpowering. These come in tenor however switching from concert to tenor should not really be a concern. To be honest the scale length difference is not much - I play about 50% concert and 50% tenor and don't really even think about it. I do like Ohana's (tenor) as well as the Gold Tone Little Gems - they do tend to be a bit louder and brighter. I would say the Ohana (Tenor) is a bit mellower than the Gold Tone (available in concert) - the Gold Tone is a good banjo uke - (but it is loud). These are all in that mid range of pricing. If you are looking for something entry level around $100 I've had pretty good luck with the Aklot and the Kmise brands - both available in concert. If you are a mid-level player, based in what you've told me I would lean towards going with the Tenor from DUKE. The others I've mentioned are also good options though. Duke is running a promo currently (see this if you're interested www.dukeuke.com/pages/4string ). Feel free to reach out with any more questions! I'm happy to help. Tune in tomorrow for my latest video - it will be on Banjo uke technique featuring the new DUKE!

    Hi Kelly is there any disadvantage of using the index finger instead of the thumb on the last up strum of the double strum . ie. thumb ,index ,index, index. It’s just that I get a clearer ring on the A string that way.

    • @fourstringstrummer
      @fourstringstrummer  Месяц назад

      Hi there - nope - if you're u can work it that way and you like the sound then go for it. It will give you a different sound coming up with the finger (fleshy part) versus your thumb (nail) but if you like it that way then it's all good! Enjoy!!
