    The lights turned out great! You gave me a great idea of putting a zip tie in between each bulbs as well. Thanks for posting this!

    Great work. I've strung a lot of lights but should have used the cable method. Centerville, Tx here.

    Hello, I have seen many videos of others using wide planters also. Do you think it will be safe to use a less wide bucket or planter for a lower profile look?

  • @allennewland9749

    Absolutely GREAT video. I only wish I had watched it BEFORE I did it the "concrete in the barrel method. You are spot on in that doesn't work long term. I had one that kept blowing over and I simply ran 3' rebar rod through it. After watching this. I'm going to go back and do it just like your setup. What diameter planter did you end up using?
    Again GREAT video.

    This might be a dumb question, but did the heat from the fire pit effect the lights? I'm trying to do the same around a fire pit

    Nice video. Thanks. What will be the pros and cons of using a 8 feet fence pole on ground instead of treated wood post? Price isn't that much of an issue.

    • @PatriotDIY
      @PatriotDIY  Год назад +1

      Welllll.... 8 foot is a little short! Remember it needs to be set in the ground about a foot and a half...that would only leave you 6.5 above the ground.
      I used 10ft 4x4s

    Great video tutorial! Maybe you went over it, but how many strands did that take? Great video!

  • @richardr.528

    I wanted to use a 10ft 6x6.. will this still work passing through the whisky barrel? Also when you measure for your lights: how many feet do you factor in so you get the proper tension on the turnbuckle

    • @PatriotDIY
      @PatriotDIY  2 года назад

      That's should work fine. Just measure as close as you can. Too long is better than too short!!

    What would you recommend for renters who can’t dig holes in the backyard? Something portable.

    • @PatriotDIY
      @PatriotDIY  Год назад

      Alot of people just cement the posts into the planter, the only issue is that it's not as stable. You could possibly do thinner metal poles instead that you could drive into the ground. Would make a much smaller hole that could be easily refilled and almost unnoticeable.

    What size are those planters? I clicked on the link in your description but it’s no longer active.

    Can you give a recommendation on how to determine the right angles to string a certain amount of lights? I want to hang them in a zig zag pattern between two walls and have them end up at a certain point. How can I determine how far apart to put my hooks for a certain length of lights?

    • @PatriotDIY
      @PatriotDIY  Год назад

      Lay it out the way you want it on the ground first then measure. If you don't have the lights yet, do the same thing with string to determine the lengths

  • @jeffreyvenegas

    Do you do a turnbuckle at each point? Or is it ok to run the wire through multiple eye bolts and then a turnbuckle at the end?

    • @PatriotDIY
      @PatriotDIY  9 месяцев назад

      I did it at every transition

    did you use 8 footers? so only a bit more than 6' above ground?

    • @PatriotDIY

      10 foot 4x4s 18in in the ground

    Currently working on a project like this. I was wondering if the wood itself will bend / bow in the long run with all that tension?

    • @PatriotDIY
      @PatriotDIY  Год назад

      It definatly could. I suggest making sure the posts are good and dry before you start the project (less likely to bow and twist). Mine have been up for about a year and are still straight!

    • @marcelimarilag
      @marcelimarilag Год назад

      @@PatriotDIY I appreciate the quick response! I decided to get some concrete anchors with hook and do a wire tension on the opposite side to counter the string light tension. You think it's a good idea?

    How long a run can I make between poles without using steel wire? I don't want to pull the wire out of the socket. But I don't want to run steel wire unless necessary.

    • @PatriotDIY

      Not very far if you don't want it to sag .

    Those zip ties will break at some point which will bring in callbacks. I say run em through the loops

    • @PatriotDIY
      @PatriotDIY  Год назад +1

      Zip ties are cheap, if one breaks...replace it

    • @MrCheaterpipe
      @MrCheaterpipe Год назад +2

      Quality zip ties will last year's without breaking and also the loops are perpendicular to the wire so I really don't see how you would run the cable through them without bunching up the wire and sawing through the loops while pulling the cable through

    Thanks for telling me to "hit the subscribe button" before I even watch your video, like everyone ELSE on RUclips. Every video, the same damn thing. People get sick of hearing hit the subscribe button and click like and ring the bell. EVERY DAMN VIDEO. I will do it if I want to, and you don't need to tell me. So tired of hearing it on every damn video.
