    • @blindjustice8718
      @blindjustice8718 Год назад +2

      @@aka3927 Because they are human.
      I suppose you mean X crew calls more DPI and Y crew calls more holding?
      First, not every game is point shaved -- Vegas has lots of experience setting spreads and payouts so the betting lines stay even and they win either way. So, they just call the games. Sometimes well, sometimes poorly. Just as any of us at our jobs.
      But sometimes, no matter what Vegas does to keep the betting balanced (shifting spreads and over/unders during the week), the betting is lopsided. Then they need a crew they can rely on to "balance the books" in-game.
      Certain crews have certain tendencies what they look for and call. Teams have tendencies what they do because by-and-large they get away with it. There could be 7 flags for 7 different things on both teams every play if you want to be realistic about penalties in football.
      Putting a crew with a tendency to call illegal contact downfield in a high-profile game where one team has a tendency to make illegal contact downfield tips the playing field and doesn't look obvious because they *are* legitimate calls.
      Except they aren't calling the obvious holding on Team B -- because thar is not their tendency.
      Where it becomes obvious is when it becomes "one-eye-blind." Team A gets the penalty and Team B does the same thing, no penalty.
      Teams know reffing crew tendencies. They have people dedicated to scouting every official on every crew. They will try to alter how they play if there's a tendency v. tendency looming -- but this also affects the outcome of the game.
      Which is the point.
      Refs know team tendencies.
      It isn't their first rodeo.
      Now, Vegas has to watch and report odd betting behaviors. But those are external. The NFL wants games to look legit. But both know how to work the system from the inside to get the results that are most profitable.

    Those wide zone defenses... still don't understand why zone doesn't collapse to man coverage after a few seconds, you shouldn't allow players to settle in gaps, raise their freaking hands like "hey no one over here" and the defenders think it's smarter to stay in their bubble than to cheat towards the players who can catch the ball doubly so when one of those players is named Kelce

    • @blindjustice8718
      @blindjustice8718 Год назад +1

      If you collapse zone to man "after a couple seconds," I flood your zone and force you to pick a receiver to cover, then throw it to the other guy. Or I run crossing routes through the MLB zone. Or I run a trailer behind the first receiver into a zone (who goes deep).
      The idea of a zone is not to necessarily prevent a catch as much as it is to prevent the throw in the first place and have defenders situated where an errant throw is an interception.
      The old saying is: "Three things can happen when you throw the football. Two of them are bad."
      Obviously, the game has evolved since then (and I would argue 4 things can happen and 3 are bad). But zone has it's time and place. Rotating zones are predicated on the "rule" that a QB should not throw across his body or across the field. Which is why Kelce was wide open there.

      Kelce got hit as he went up, so he knew he was down as as soon as he hit the ground. King is doing his due diligence and touching him down anyway, but he has the misfortune of doing it right in Kelce's path of getting up. Kelce starts getting up cause the play is over (notice the doesn't even have the ball any more at this point) but because of their positions, he's stuck on King. King tries to back off, Kelce gets impatient, shoving happens, flags fly. All that testosterone flowing, sometimes people get heated a little quick. Kelce's a veteran.
