If you are looking for “genuinely interesting” western/American animation I’d recommend Scavengers Reign. It is one of the most unique, bizarre, and haunting animated shows to come out as of recent.
Personally, as a western fan, I'm super happy with this series. It's one of the few times that a full Japanese staff has been handed a western property and has been allowed to be liberal with their creativity. There has been other times in the past that Japanese studios have worked on Japanese anime styled movies or shows based on western properties that weren't even close to as good as this because western executives kept a short leash on them and didn't let them inject any of their ideas or unique creative charm. I have watched the first three episodes of Suicide Squad: Isekai and it's completely different from all those past times. The Japanese animation staff and writers truly made this their own version of DC's Suicide Squad, and it's fantastic to me. 😁 That said, I do also hope that the west will begin injecting more passion into our animation projects, and I think we are on the right track. Shows like X-Men '97 and Invincible are bringing on a new era of western animation.
Western animation is struggling because studios don’t see the value in it as a medium. There has always been a stigma around it in the west of it being only for young children. Many creators in the field here today grew up with Japanese animation and are imitating the craft to try and appeal to all demographics. Hopefully we will get more new shows that are coming out that can push the medium in a positive direction.
The West has been moralizing Art since they imported a Sex/Violence-negative religion called Christianity. Only if the Roman Empire had stuck with their polytheistic religion...
For me Katana is amazing, after the original movie maybe, in detail you will see the difference between this Anime. Also, it's scary to see it, I'm sure don't deny it.♀️🤺😱☠
