  • Coleman made gas-powered irons from the 1920s into the 1980s. In this video I show how to disassemble and reassemble a Model 4A iron along with tips for restoration and an operational demonstration.

    Nice work, Bill! Thank goodness for permanent press fabrics......haha! I'd love to see some closeup flame shots under the hood. If it weren't for rural electrification, I bet W.C. Coleman would have made a gasoline powered refrigerator. They make them that run on natural gas, so it's possible anyway.

    You can interchange the R55 generator with an iron generator. I did it in my iron and noticed no performance difference. Two pumps of air is a good place to start.
