Which player do you think Liverpool should sign to replace Matip?!
If you're taking just for this season title push, Anderson: pl ready, 27 actually isn't old for a cb. Just like arsenal signed leandro last year, will do a good job, decent stop gap till summer, & be on the bench next year

Liverpool have generally had a very good record when it comes to signing Scandinavian players.
For example Riise, Agger, Molby and Hyypia, plus the fact that he already has some Premier League experience I would choose Andersen from Palace.

Alesandro Bastoni. I remember him at the san Siro. He was fantastic. The scoreline didnt reflect the actual game. Inter played brilliant until the Sanches sending off. Bastoni was fast, strong, physical, tall, and could pass the ball beautifully short and long. He plays with passion too.
I would love to sign this guy - reckon he would be a heavy weight signing as good as VVD. Scalvini along side Bastoni would be lovely to see. Bastoni and VVD making the current and then Sclavini coming in slowly and Konate on the bench.
Bastoni is left footed too😉. Actually Piero Hincappi and Bastoni are my 2 picks.
The thing is, whoever you sign has to either be better than both Konate and Matip, and stay in the first team even after Matip is back from injury, or has to immediately be brought in as a lesser player than Matip but take over the position after Matip's age starts to take big toll on his abilities.
If you bring in Scalvini, he would want to play in the first team and then Matip's salary and squad status are in jeopardy, as well as Konate's "right" to a first team status with Matip out of the picture for 6 months.
Some starters from other clubs would certainly agree to come to Liverpool and be a squad player, but you can't just let them sit out 60% of the season, just because your 300 year old CB is now back. See how MacAllister, Szoboszlai, Darwin, Gakpo and some others came into the team and are starters, that's exactly what Liverpool should target now in my opinion and bring in either Bastoni or Scalvini and give them playing time with VVD who is also a ticking time-bomb when it comes to aging. He's already lost some of his speed and agility, and Matip is even worse, Konate is underdeveloped due to not playing enough and Joe Gomez is basically suicide on CB.

thanks for your comment. Agree with everything you have said. I think Liverpool have been unfair with VVD ever since his signed in my opinion. They should have done better in and around the time they signed Konate - he wasn’t the player they should have signed especially after VVD had such a big injury. VVD needed another centre back along side him that was on a similar level to him or if not better than him to lessen the pressure on him. Instead Liverpool signed Konate, an inexperienced young defender that was underdeveloped even at Leipzig. See the issue I have with Konate is not just that, I feel as though some 2-3 years later, he simply does not have the natural talent needed to succeed at the top. After some years of patience with him I feel as though mistakes are part of his game. Without VVD I just don’t have confidence that Konate has the skill and command needed to become a really important player for Liverpool. I speak to a lot of emotional Liverpool fans and it baffles me at how defensive they are about this individual.
At the top of the game, the margins are tiny. You literally have to go most games without making mistakes at the back. Attacks against top team defences are not for the whole 90 minutes in a game, its usually just in spells. Which means its more about skill and concentration. After 2-3 years of watching Konate I just feel almost in every game he has a lapse in concentration. The Arsenal game is an example: when Gabriel scored, Konate made 2 mistakes in 2 minutes. One was a daft foul that set up the set piece and the second was just going to sleep when Arsenal took the free kick and Gabriel scores after getting ahead of Konate. For the rest of the game, Konate played well and this is the point some fans made to me during the game some weeks ago. They kept making the argument that Konate was immense in the game but critically ignoring his match changing mistakes in the first half.
You can have the best game as a defender, but your contribution can be acknowledged positively ONLY if you dont make mistakes that costs points! Thats the harsh reality for a defender at the top. Leagues are lost by literally points. People think im too harsh with Konate, but I dont think I am. Defences dont face pressure for the full 90minutes, its usually just in spells in a game like i already mentioned. Thats why Konate has no excuses that would justify his lapses in concentration in games.
Dont get me wrong VVD has errors in him, but I dont think thats to do with his ability or skill set. I think its more to do with Liverpool still relying on him to lead the defence because players like Konate, Matip or Gomez are not good enough to take centre stage.
This is why I feel the Bastoni signing would be a very important piece of business for Liverpool when all things are considered. The boy just oozes class! He has everything to lead Liverpools defence without VVD. Thats why I like him soo much. I could not say the same thing about any of Liverpools central defenders bar VVD! Bastoni is towering. His commanding and extremely reliable. His a ball playing centre back and can carry the ball forward comfortably as well as being able to ping the ball to different parts of the pitch. He can header the ball and is very well timed with his tackles. His left footed. He plays for the shirt and has an arrogance about him that players need.
A top top defender, Bastoni is. Inter have conceded only 8-9 goals in the serie A this season and their top of the league!
Why would he leave he’s homegrown and at a bigger club
@@pascho1057 who are you talking about? do you mean why would Bastoni leave Italy and Inter Milan is bigger than Liverpool? May be he Bastoni will not because Italians dont usually leave Italy. But in terms of Liverpool being a big team - they are one of the best teams in the world and come from probably the strongest league in the world.

Really rated Andersen this season and the last, you can just tell he’s got it. Him, Schar and Ben Mee have been standout defenders so far

Jorrel Hato is the dream, I don't like Lacroix, Scalvini or Andersen because they are all right footed and we are stacked in that department (Gomez, Quansah, Konate) whilst only 1 LCB (VVD) so a left footed LCB that can play LB is ideal as they will be able to replace VVD/Robbo in the near future (2-3 years)
I don’t understand why nobody is talking about Hancko of Feyenoord when talking about defenders. He is good and left footed which is rare

At the top end of the game, the margin for error is small, very small. Therefore Liverpool should focus on really kitting up the defensive line, like they have with the attack. Just focus and really strengthen that defence. For me they need 2 CBs: Bastoni as the first signing and then Piero Hincappi in the summer or the other way round: January Hincappi and Bastoni in the summer.
Quansah is making good progress and Nat Philips has returned, we won't be signing anyone in January

We need one of the Bayer Leverkusen Centre Backs, or a strong German Centre Half. I don’t know anyone from Italy that is as strong as the ones in Previous years. I don’t know man. The market is lean with centre half’s at the moment.
We are looking for a squad option with Van Dijk and Konate being the starters, I don’t see these boys wanting to come in and be a bench player

Konate should be coming off the bench. He makes too many mistakes for a player whos been at liverpool for 2-3 years. I just dont think his commanding enough to be an automatic starter. At the top level the margin for error is very small.

Both were talented cb but Antonio Silva is too expensive, I would rather have goncalo inacio 51 million clause left footed cb can play anywhere defense position, he is one of my options alongside hincapie and lacroix

either of the palace centre backs i’d be over the moon with, u need 3 top centre backs to win a league so either anderson comes in and he’s the third choice and stays third choice then when van dijk goes we’ll sign a first choice or we sign guehi now in the hope he can be a starter long term since he’s still very young

signing a dm might be a better idea, it will give Quansah game time, Endo is leaving for the Asian cup, and trent should remnain in its current position, where he can join th attack but drop back when Liverpool need to defend. If they moved him to dm Liverpool would have 1 less player in attack, as any replacement full back wouldnt be able to help the front three as well as trent. As for their defense, Liverpool conceded 16 goals in the first part of the season, with both left backs injured, and Matip too (they are tied with Arsenal for the best defensive record)
As for replacing Salah as he travels for afcon, Szoboszlai could start as a RW And Curtis as cm or Eliott as an RW.

He won’t sign anyone. If he did it would be a left back not a CB because then you have VVD, Gomes, Konate, Quansah and Phillips after he was recalled. Also the fact Robbo is due back January maybe end of it and Phillips recalled means he can play Gomes left back so we won’t buy anyone as we very rarely do
