  • My father, Malcolm Delingpole finished his time in the RAF serving in Hong Kong as a linguist and wireless operator in 1956 and returned on the troop ship Empire Fowey (pronounced "Foy" as in the Cornish town) in the company of the returning Army garrison, the Staffordshire Regiment. They stopped off at several ports on the way home, including Cape Town and Dakar. He and I talk through the 8mm colour footage, and at 89 his memory is remarkably good considering this was nearly 70 years ago. I hope you enjoy this snapshot of different era.

    At 6:56 its clear that the course being sailed is NW .. which suggests the Malacca Straight , which suggests the band were in Singapore..
