I had symptoms at the age of 39 in 2001. A friend insisted I see a doctor. My GP referred me to a specialist and was scheduled for a colonoscopy. The colonoscopy revealed that I had a cancerous polyp in my rectum and needed to be removed. I was extremely lucky as I didn't need radiation nor chemo. I have had a few colonoscopies over the years and had one yesterday. Although they have found a few polyps, they found a large polyps that was large and suspicious. I try not to worry about it as I had one only five years ago and I'm praying that it's nothing. If I don't hear anything before my appointment in three weeks, I'm sure things are ok........ Please (everyone), know your body and take heed to symptoms, no matter how young you are!!!!! I had no family history of colorectal cancer..........

You say patients are often afraid to discuss this. It's mainly because doctors don't want to, and discourage patients from talking about it even to them because they don't like dealing with those things. Last rectal exam was about 8 years ago despite all of the symptoms. All they do is prescribe 10 years worth of salves. Doctors don't do rectal checkups of any sort these days, except maybe on young women.

Am subject to colon cancers because of a large pituitary tumour. Beeding for about 10 years & have had loose bowels few times a day. Also had breast cancer. Been bleeding vaginally for a few years (young senior). Also have blood platelets 90. Thing is that doctors don't take these things seriously because blood doesn't show on stool tests. Only occurs from irritation fm walking or loose stools. Grandmother died from uterine cancer. Have high risk abnormal epithelial cells & Lyme disease.

I believe if you have insurance it’s free if you’re over 50, get a colonoscopy
