I’m just glad they found no cancer in my stomach like my grandmother years ago. I still had to have 3/4 of my stomach removed due to an unhealing pyloric ulcer that caused many severe issues. I have to take B12 shots for the rest of my life too and eat 5-6 small meals a day. I eat Mediterranean based mostly and feel a ton better now. Bless you for I know this can not be easy.
@@suryasview9170 I am delighted to say he has made a full recovery!!! He had to do chemo after the surgery and it’s taken a long time for him to build strength back but we’re almost there. Stomach cancer is so scary I had a grandfather that had stomach cancer it was stage 4 and he couldn't get chemo and radiation there was nothing they could do about it the cancer spreaded through his liver lungs bones and brain it was terminal and he passed away few weeks later it was about a decade ago and I'm scared that it could happen to me or my dad in the future I want to do a genetic test for stomach cancer to see if I'm at risk for it if they had found the cancer early he would've survived it but it was too late my grandfather and dad don't usually see the doctors
Try not to worry about it, life isn't forever, we all know we have a time limit. Were fortunate enough to be in this age with actual technology. You should get tested and catch it as early as possible. Your body can adapt without your stomach, theres pros and cons to having that surgery. Anyway take care, dont stress!
I'm a 45 year old male that got recently diagnosed with stomach cancer. The problem is it's very hard to find. CT scans and blood tests don't show anything. The only issue I had was lack of appetite. I lost weight for a year and I thought it was an ulcer so I went to doctor. She also thought it was am ulcer cause she thought I didn't have any signs and CT scan did not show anything. She gave me acid reflux pills which actually made my stomach feel better and I started eating more. After a few months I felt a sort of bloating feeling in my stomach and I went back to doctor and she booked me for an endoscopy and biopsy. They found stomach cancer and said it was 5cm. I am so scared now. The doctor told me most cases people catch it when it spreads and is stage 4. I read online that if it was more serious I would be vomiting, feeling nausea's or have blood in my stool which I don't. Now I'm so scared I have another cat scan on my stomach and doctor said no other symptoms except for weight loss would show even if it spread. The doctor said chemo and surgery is the only option if it has not spreaded. If it has it might be too late. After hearing this new I can't sleep or eat and I'm so worried. I never had any serious issues in my life. The only other operations I ever had was hernia and diverticulitis 4 years ago. Im so scared I wont live and I feel too young to have this. If anyone can give me any advice I'll be really appreciative?
@@georgec8210 Hi John. Thanks for sharing your story. I'm wondering how are you doing now? Did you get the surgery done successfully? Did they had to remove the stomach or partially?
@@pwong88 Kinda wanna know what happened myself as my own situation is pretty similar. It started with a loss of appetite and I felt full from just a few bites of food when I did have an appetite. This was also accompanied by a lot of heartburn. Initially my doctor thought it was just a case of GERD and just prescribed some prilosec and pepcid. It helped with the heartburn but I almost completely lost my appetite and whatever I ate just ended up sitting in my stomach for longer periods of time than it should, sometimes I would vomit it back up. I ended up having to go through the emergency room to be seen again because I just knew something was off and I didn't want to wait weeks for an endoscopy appointment ( A GI specialist suggested an endoscopy but the appointment was nearly 3 months out) I ended up being admitted to the hospital where the tests were done on me, ct scan, endoscopy, everything. I found out it was stomach cancer and initially it looked as if it was confined to the stomach, but further testing showed it has spread to some surrounding lymph nodes so surgery was not an option. I started chemo recently, this is my first cycle of treatment - there is a liquid infusion that happens every three weeks and then I take pills for 2 weeks and the cycle repeats. It's still early to tell how effective the treatment is since it's not time for new tests. I feel fine for the most part aside from the occasional bout of heartburn and I am aware that the cancer can't be surgigall removed. My doctors have been vague on any prognosis, but as I said, it's early in treatment still and it's my hope that remission is a thing at least. I'm 41 btw, just a few years younger than john when he was diagnosed it seems. It was scary to be diagnosed but I've come to accept it. I feel relatively fine though which only adds to the insidiousness of this illness

We can live without a stomach because most of the digestion takes place in the small intestine. Ok fine.... But but.... What about stomach acid? Stomach acid is needed to break down food and kill any bacteria or germs present in the food.
Hi Jim. How are you feeling now? My sister is having a total gastrectomy after testing positive for the CDH1 gene mutation. They performed 38 biopsies, found cancer in 1. Probably because it's so unnecessary. I'm sure it could be done, but like most surgeries, it would be pretty expensive. I doubt insurance companies would be willing to pay for it, so it would have to come out of the patient's pocket. And at that point, most patients would rather just get rid of it than pay for such an expensive procedure. I'm not a professional or anything btw, this is just my best guess on the issue.
Al Pal : You are correct. An internal transplant is generally done for vital organs like the Kidney or the Liver. When an organ transplant is complete, the person will be on immunosuppressant drugs for life. This is very hard on one’s liver so if you don’t need the transplant, don’t do it. Plus, where would we get a stomach to transplant to begin with?
