Gorgo is my favorite leader/civ at this point, especially for reasons that were only touched or not mentioned in this review. I feel there's some more versatility to her than it looks like on the first glance. First of all, she has a hills spawn bias, which can be extremely powerful to get some productive cities going early on and can be used for any purpose. Going for quick Mysticsm and get a reliable +2 on Great Prophet Points makes a religious game more likely possible, rarely anyone can slot in that card so early. Her warmongering enables her to blast through early civics real fast and she can get Oligarchy quite quickly for juicy early military expansion. For anyone who secured a religion thanks to the extra Wildcard, blasting towards Theocracy can give her an edge to go for a religious victory. I feel thanks to hills, the Wildcard policy and enhanced early warfare, Gorgo can rocket herself into any position and supports different types of victories and playstyles.
I think you're right, honestly. She's one of my favorites leaders as well, and I just generally have a lot of fun trying put different playstyles as her and seeing how it goes.
I agree that Gorgo doesn't receive any direct bonuses to a religious victory per se, but I think it is worth mentioning that, because of the free wildcard slot, you can rush Mysticism and start generating 2 Great Prophet Points without building a Holy Site or reaching your first real government. I've found that this almost always guarantees me a religion, even on higher difficulties. This can be quite powerful if you have a plan to use specific religious beliefs to augment Gorgo's better victory routes.
Gorgo is just awesome. She is so simple, and so effective at the same time. Fight a lot, get more culture from it. In the beginning she has a hills bias so your starting base is usually fantastic. She starts with a wild card slot, so rush mysticism and your practically guaranteed a religion if you put the great prophet card in there. And last but not least, she plays nice with city states and gets free envoys when you build acropolsis. That’s a lot of boosts and play styles just from gorgo. Also hoplites rule against cpus. That is all
I'm a massive civ fan. And always looking for new interesting content. Your analysis' bring something completely new to the table. I've subbed and will like all your content. Keep pushing
First civ to use. Been stuck with her since. Having a unique unit early game really helps and I kinda dig how her playstyle really upholds the Spartan legend.
Nice review, Saxy. I agree with the ratings; I've played several games with her, and I'll count her definitely among the top 5 Civs, both in single- and multiplayer. However, I'm not sure what source you used, but the stats on the Acropolis district are different than stated in your video. Adjacency bonuses are +1 to wonders, districts and town center. Which means that occasionally, a regular theater district can have a greater total bonus than the acropolis, which is capped to 7 (6 wonders/districts including town center) whereas the regular version can get 12 (6 wonders).
That was a good idea for farming Barbarian camps. I am running Gorgo in the mid to later stage of the game, and I put alot of thought into that tip. I figured that to try and maximize your Barbarian farming potential, maybe should take a more defensive stance. So instead of laying siege to the camp, leaving your cities undefended, it may eventually be more profitable to let the barbarians build up and attack. You can protect your cities & farm barbs at the same time, though it might take a bit longer. I even went so far as to put pins on them, treating the camp itself as a protected *cultural* site lol. You could even use that as an excuse to go to war with someone, if you have a strong army. Though I have played so far pretty defensivly - I have prefereed to stay home and develop my civ.
Maybe try to declare a war as fast as possible so u won’t get a warmonger punishment and feed off of the troops and don’t destroy the civ or cities but focus army first 50 turns then focus on expansion and when u have a bunch of cities focus on culture
Personally, i dont think her unique unit is all that strong. Also it is an early game unit, so many other civs can outperform her militarily. Gorgo really has to double down imo Military to be very effective there. I think generally it is a race through the civic tree to get the best Governments, policy cards and wonders first, especially if you play agreessive. Gorgo has to balance Culture and Science to make the most of all her abilities.
Oh yea, one other thought - Gorgo loves to farm enemy military units, so try to kill them all first, especially the Barbarian camps - Gorgo prefers to keep the outpost unharmed. If you play multiplayer, a cunning player will use that as an excuse to go to war with you! 😉
I understand that its a bit harder to push for science as Gorgo, but given her ability to gain culture through unit combat, makes science just as important as culture - you have to be able to compete with ever other army to gain the most.
Wait, so you have Gorgo Literally the same rankings as Trajan except a grade worse in science and religious... yet she’s A tier overall and Trajan is B overall, how?
I don’t really understand how to play Gorgo, aggressive culture victory doesn’t really exist because war and tourism don’t mix. I don’t really understand what to do with Gorgo. Can someone explain how to play Gorgo, how to do aggressive culture?
These are so helpful & really helpful entertaining. Great work, but you say “ugh” a lot & most other channels that have content as great as your’s have smother dialogue. :)
You forgot the fact that the Acropolis grants an Envoy upon being built.
Ah, that I did, thanks!

Good thoughts - i tend to load heavy for Miliitary policies, but also Economic - I dont really play much else, though you could.

Thank you for the tip, I will try this
I just got this game and Sparta is my passion. Thanks for the help!

"It doesn't get a bonus for every adjacent hoplite, cause that would be ridiculous "
Simon Bolivar would like to know your location

Thanks! I used the wiki, and I did make a mistake, it is indeed only +1 for wonders. The wiki says +1 for districts and +2 for city center though.
When I play Gorgo, I usually try to smash a city state early. You get a free city and usually enough culture to unlock the early policies you need.
The most "well defined" thing about her is her super buff shoulders.
Facts
I believe she should of gotten a B for religion. That extra wildcard can be used to rush a great prophet.
You forgot to mention that Acropolis also can only be built on hills.
Darn, I did indeed, thanks!
I can’t unhear „Playdough‘s republic“ 😂😭😩

I'm watching this just because Gorgo REALLY likes to spawn as my neighbor. Gotta learn my enemy's weaknessess 😂
For me it's Dido and Mohen-Dario. BFFs forever.

She looks like Celine Dion

Hoplites are ass lol
Aropideads not acropolis
