Diction and language are essential elements in poetry because they:-
Set the mood and tone of the poem.
Shape the poem's meaning and interpretation.
Also, contribute to the poem's sound, rhythm and emotional impact.
In poetry, every word counts,so careful attention to diction and language is what gives a poem its power, beauty and depth, without thoughtful word choices a poem could lose its effectiveness and emotional resonance.

As someone who writers poems, i say Diction is a must have thing. why poetry is different from prose if there are no difference. Even in Blank verse; we find hidden rhythmic sounds to it. Poetry is defined by its language and the language in turn present us with author's mode, personality. See poetry and language is like "Tress and its leaves wait for spring like the newly born lover wait for his beloved. Fields and seeds, farmers and their zeal to work in their fields, because spring is here." Poetry and language is like soul and body, when one leave the other, body has no life in it. i hope you enjoy my poetry. Thank you for the class ma'am

Deriida says that language is slippery ,But Aristottle said that a language is a beautiful presentation through choice of diction , New critics talks about a atotelic text, there should be no rigorous diction must not be used, hence poetry should be written in simple diction where choosen words must be represnt the thought and it can be read as a layman do, Therefore language and diction shold go side by side, I think Wordsworth lines shold be appropriate to explain the question -- poetry is a continuous overflow of powerful feelings written in a common language.
