I gotta say, this channel has single-handedly given me a true appreciation for watches. I never really thought much about them till I started seeing your videos and listening to the history. Because of you, I worked up the gumption to open the back of an old pocket watch I’d bought my wife while we were dating. Thought it was a cheap, dime store watch. Turns out it was a 1903 IWC Schaffhausen watch with a silver case. I never would have even thought to check that out before your vids. Thanks!
Regarding screws. I've been taught to slightly turn the screw backwards and allow the screw to settle in the threads (they are aligned) and then in the normal direction gently insuring the proper mating of the two thread sets. I enjoy your show everytime.
Thank you for showing the slippage of the movement holder at around 19:10 when you said "I hate when that happens" . I always felt like I was the only one doing that from watching all of these other watch channels. The fact that you keep your slip-ups in the videos means a lot to amateur tinkerers like myself.
Because of this channel and others as well, I was able to have a great conversation with my Tax accountant about her Hamilton wrist watch (a triangle type) she was wearing and she told me how much she enjoyed the watch and also how she made sure to have it serviced and also how she actually asked to see the inside of her watch as it was being serviced, so thanks for teaching me!
I've been into watches for a long time, I've accrued a decent collection thus far but nothing has ever made me wanna start working on watches as much as watching your videos for the past couple days has done. A wonderful service, sir.
Happy to see the boss stopped in to do some QC checks 😂❤ what a great looking watch! I also loved your metaphor about Camrys and ETA, etc movements vs in-house, I so agree. Thanks for another great video, always nice to spend time with you and the community. Cheers all and wear it in good health
I really like this watch. I think that dial looks very cool. I love the color, and the patina adds some interesting character to it. I would definitely wear it when I was getting dressed up.
Your channel is one of my favorites, you have a constant variety of watch styles, small, large, pocket and all have back stories. And i used ultrasonic cleaners in my professional career making micro processors and when they became available for home use I got one to clean my airbrushes for my hobbies. Great video.
I've never been one to really give watches much thought. I've only really had one and it was one that kind of went with a gift basket set of things for a birthday. But while I may never pick up the hobby, the way you talk about it and go through the process is really similar to how I feel about painting miniature figures. Like, at it's essence, it's as simple as picking up a figure you like, getting some brushes and paint and just going for it! Will anyone notice or appreciate the little details that you put into the insides of the watches you restore? Maybe not. Will people notice the itty-bitty buttons or wood grains, or the details in the scenery that I put in? Maybe not. But WE notice, and WE like the effort! Yours are definitely videos I listen to while I paint, and I enjoy the simple passion behind your craft that we share.~ ^ ^
Hey, Marshall! Thanks, brother, this last small, ladies' watch for your friend, Alex. Yessir, it's definitely a great colour that, sort of a darkish crimson, light burgundy. The stains on the dial remind us of dried-up Coke or Pepsi splashes. A VERY amazing watch dial colour indeed!
Hey, Marshal! I follow you not for a looong time, but I've seen almost all videos from one and a half year till today. So I think that people who make videos so satisfying, with so much cool information and passion with what you're doing on the video should receive every positive comment possible to motivate you, so you can keep making a lot more. PLS NEVER STOP (just a selfish wish hahhaha). And, last, but not least, man, congratz for the awesome videos. Good vibrations from Brazil :)
I wont lie. I like the videos where there is an issue with reassembly. I enjoy your troubleshooting process and the finial fix is so rewarding!!! Your the best Marshal!!
This is my 5th or 6th video viewing your skills and I must say I have the so called lingo down on the name of the parts and how they are arranged it is very therapeutic to say the least, I have been a welder fabricator / mechanic for my life’s career since I was 18 and now just turned 60 and this would really be an outstanding hobby to take on. Your explanation of every aspect of the work your doing at the time just says hay I can do this and no matter what we tackle in life we all need to be tout how. You are a master of your craft keep the videos rolling….
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops! AMZWATCH watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
Well, Marshall, you actually infected me. Sort of.... I have always had a soft spot for the old, antique, wood cased clocks. My 99 year old neighbor left me his old Seth Thomas "School" clock and my grandfather used to repair clocks before he passed away in 1963 and I remember pestering him to wind up some of his clocks so we could hear them chime whenever we would visit. You gave me the "push" to look into repairing those old clocks. They ARE quite similar to a watch movement, just bigger and easier for my 70 year old eyes to see the parts. I'm just a beginner, but I am enjoying the learning adventure. Like you, I also have a background in auto mechanics in my younger days. 😉
Whew! That inspector is a taskmaster! You never know when the inspector will pop in! :-) Also, I really appreciate your naming the big movement makers.
I know you p, ug your tools kits every video. I actually appreciate that. There are a LOT of crap tools ‘out there’. I appreciate that you have helped get through the trash.
You are right, Marshall. We don't share the same appreciation for patina. All I could think when you put it back together was, "Clean the damn dial man!"
I'm surprised that I didn't feel that way on this one. Normally I'm in that same boat about wanting to clean them, but in this particular one that splotchy appearance just does it for me and I think looks better than what I imagine a completely clean dial would look like.
@@bostonrailfan2427 yeah well that's just like your opinion man! To me it is beautiful, almost psychedelic! Which is perfectly befitting of the era it is from.
Thank you very much for sharing. Yema is still alive, they produce very nice toolwatches with manufacture movements in collaboration with Olivier Mory.
I have a lost parts story. I was just getting into watchmaking, im still there, honestly! I was practicing on a Weslock, and a minute hand left me when i laughed in triumph, because i did the first step. sorry for bad spelling just trying to get this out. So, 1 year later, i found it on the floor, and i was like, how?!
I clicked on this just 27min after you uploaded it. It already had over 3k views. As I write this it is nearing 4k. I like this stuff but am a little surprised to find out so many others do, too. I know so little people in my own life that have any appreciation for watches or even wear them. To me, they are like little pieces of art.
I learned a trick from another yt watch restorer to seat the pivots in the bridge. Tap the side of the movement holder, the vibrations will cause the pivots to move in to place.
Love your work, Marshall. I do disagree with calling that patina on the dial. It looks like someone spilled coffee on it, to me. I know this is a very subjective area.
21:36 - I find a silicone tipped stick is perfect for this. It keeps the perfect amount of down pressure and stays put while you focus on aligning the pivots with your other hand.
long time viewer . I had tinker with watches before and though that I was a watchmaker "! .... until I discover your channel ... mine is just a hobby ! .. Is a pleasure see you work ... and I like to see you restore and vintage once .. to new ! ... Dial and all . oh .. and I heard in one of your videos that you don't restore enamel dials nor know who does it .. well . in my incursions in try to get back to life an old 50mm 24 h Girard Perregaux I found a company in UK that does that service ... if you are interested , reply and I will look for it again . By the way ... I never put together the guts to work on that beauty . Tip of the hat at you , Sir .
i got really upset today and did not even know I needed something soothing, than i found this video. Thanks Marshal, interesting as ever, keep it up. :)
Oh hey the spring bars on the straps are something I've only seen once before on a watch I recently bought. They are super convenient since if I want to take the straps off and clean the case off to get sawdust and such off I don't need to fight with them.
Marshall, always love your videos! I looked at a Yema site and while they have some inexpensive ($369) pieces, many are in the thousands range! Maybe they were priced lower in the 70s!
I had a Gibson Les Paul the exact same color as that dial, along with gold hardware. It was a really pretty guitar. Definitely a late 80s color scheme on that guitar. That hue of pink works well with gold.
Haven't played MTG or listened to LRR in a few years, recently got into watches. Imagine my surprise, hearing an instantly familiar voice! Love the channel, the videos. Subscribed and Patreon'd - keep up the great content work.
given how easily everything else came apart in the entirety of the movement. the setting lever spring was wedged between a post and the movement holder. I seen the setting lever spring bend slightly and I almost screamed stop. I am glad nothing was damaged.
I stop what I’m doing when I see a new video from you Marshall. Thanks for the therapy in a world of chaos!
Amen tonys from another tonys. It's a joy to relax!
Somewhere there's a patient opened up on an operating table waiting for the surgeon to finish watching a video.
I agree. Always relaxing watching a video of this channel, after a stressful day at work

I would love to do this as well, but unfortunately, it takes more delicate hands than my own, I'm just too clumsy.
! Sorry to hear you had to move Marshall, I hope everything’s all cleaned up and comfortable in the new place

that’s a great supervisor: rare appearance, but ensured Marshall did his job right🤣
I love your channel. My dad used to work on watches for fun. He has been gone for 20 years, but watching you reminds me of good memories.
I absolutely LOVE this channel ! You always make everything exciting and never boring, You are a TOP class teacher Sir. 👍👍

You can just imagine how pleased with himself Marshall was when he came up with that text for the thumbnail! 👏👏👏
This was a different bird today Marshall, nice work navigating this classic watch.

IMHO that's not patina, that's grunge. Not my style but you do you, Marshall.
Marshall, I'm sure you'll be hitting 1M subscribers very soon. Congrats on your continued success.
Aw. RIP to the Magic: The Gathering mat.
Absolutely gorgeous!! You got the ju-ju my friend!!
Great job on the watch, always great seeing you serving different types of watches.
Nice movement, nice color dial, I like patina but not on that watch. Thanx Marshall👍🏻

Nicely done. This is always therapeutic to me.
Loved the supervisor cameo!
Me, "Nice watch, too bad the dial is trash." Marshall, "Oooh look at that patina, what a find."
I really like the way this one came out. I like the dial.
Incredible watch, thank you for showing it to us!

What a beautiful little watch. Love the color of that dial! Best wishes from Virginia!
Beautiful as always!
Very lovely, thanks! I love Yema as a brand, their latest watches are 👌
What a wonderful dial! And a great video 😊
Thanks once again Marshal, great video!
Indeed, that dial is gorgeous. Practically a color I've never seen before, especially not on a watch!
Beautiful job and watch!

Yeah, I REALLY wish this dial could have been cleaned up
My favorite part of this watch is the beautiful patina on the dial! It would have been a tragedy to have destroyed it by attempting to clean/restore.
there’s times where patina isn’t patina: it’s gunk…this is one of those times.
unless removing it was hurting the face, it should have been removed
@@bostonrailfan2427 yeah well that's just like your opinion man! To me it is beautiful, almost psychedelic! Which is perfectly befitting of the era it is from.
Man you are such a gear freak: the circular plastic you're using to remove hands is new I think. And the wood tipped tweezers. I love it.
Love all of your videos, happy that this dropped today!
another awesome video. Glad you passed inspection
What a beautiful little watch!
Chill-n out to another relaxing video ❤⌚️⏱️😌

Good work on the restoration.

I agree with you, it's not a good look to me.
Hmm to each their own. I think it looks beautiful.
@@Yaimdan Like Marshall, I respect your opinion.
It isn’t something that would just wash off. It was corrosion. Trying to clean it would have made it worse.

That is a cool Dress Watch. I like the dial too. Good Stuff Marshall🫡
that jewel 'flip' @34:13 was so impressive!!
