Carpathians is a bad example for spawn camping/pushing. The map is so small, and the A point is clearly designed to look down into either spawn. It's a very toxic map for that. You end up being able to "spawn camp" before you've even crossed the midline of the map. Absolutely ridiculous map design.
I would say 9/10 of the maps in this game are absolute ass when it comes to map design. Spawn camping is so easy on 8/10 maps that it just makes playing the game normally pointless, when you can ignore everyone and just snipe the enemy spawn over and over again. And then when you die you can just spawn in a plane and spawncamp with that.
What is it, Fields of normandy I think? the one with the zeppelin hanger in the middle and like a couple sets of buildings north and south of it? If you are there, and you have left spawn, you just cant spawn up top because the top right spawn can very quickly and easily get to a hulldown spot and just shoot straight onto the hillside where you spawn
@@firstnamelastname5310 Small Normandy in the town also has the C point at the church on the hill where you can shoot across the map into the left side spawn. you get visual and hard cover to do it too. At thermals and laser rangefinder tiers, it is an absolute nightmare if right side spawn gets control of the town.
The difference between me and Odd: Me - Sees vehicle pull out 50m in front of me in the middle of the street "Is tank or AA?" Odd - Just hears an engine from 500m away "That's a German heavy. Probably a Tiger."
The quality of your headset makes a big difference for hearing things like engines, also he has played many thousands of hours so you get used to what different things sound like lol.

On the spawn camping issue, I think the difference that needs to be understood is spawn camping vs spawn pushing, going straight to spawn is a dick move, pushing to spawn when there is nothing else to do as all caps are won etc is a different thing, lines do get blurred but this is where I stand on the issue
I feel like I play nothing but matches where my team takes a single objective, decide they've won the match and then throw away all of our manpower on the enemy spawn. I'm looking at you, Germany players.
I completely agree with you but sadly war thunder's older maps and even some of the newer ones allow you to directly look and shoot into each other's spawns. Even worse: on many of those maps it's only possible from one of the sides to easily camp the enemie's spawn. If those maps get redone or removed it'd be a fairer game

I think there’s a huge difference between spawn camping (pushing into a spawn while ignoring the objective) and battlefield control (pushing to the spawn because your team has complete dominance). You demonstrated battlefield control today.
@@cortix4599 By the time your team is pushing the enemy spawn, they’re either so outnumbered that it’s a mercy to end the game faster, or they failed so badly that they kinda deserve it. Fun doesn’t come into play when a match swings that hard to one side of the other.
This tank was a mixed bag for me when i still used it. I either had a great time with it, or I got killed by a light tank (or an R3) after 2-3 min . Tough I think it was 4.7 or even lower back than.
it indeed was 4.7 at some point and the only thing that made it stand out was the autoloader since with the pen, the british already have a better time with their 16 pounder
@@priceless3020 Yea the fireflies are around the same BR And the Italian one even has the "sabot" (APDS) round with about 6.3 sec reload, not to mention the premium "Scorpion" has one of the best armor among the Shemans (no jumbos included) witch can actually save it from a lot of guns at the front. But I ran this tank with the ARL-44 and SA50 so it doesn't matter its new BR . The Panter is not a bad replacement do its a "G" model on 5.7, only its too expensive for what it is!
I know it's a game and not real life but camping is something done in actual tank battles. After all irl you really gotta play it safe, no re-spawns. Staying in great spots in WT actually inspires me, some people come up with crazy ideas like going up on the bridge on ash river and scouting the entire enemy team XD

@@shronkler1994 Yeah, the Somua SM is really good, I love the Surbaisse as well, but it’s a lot harder to play since the armour is weaker and its at a higher BR, I also started grinding the AMX-30(1972) and so far, it’s also amazing! Hopefully soon I will get another nuke, but if you enjoy playing the torturous French tree, then you’re definitely good enough to get a nuke!
Never played war thunder in my life but went looking for gameplay of tanks shooting other tanks (volumetric despite its flaws looks really cool!) and you make the game so easy to enjoy and understand. Thanks BawZ
The French autoloaders are truly magnificent Especially for rank-IV and V The AMX-50 and the surbaisse version are great examples of this You either have a 100mm with a 4 second reload Or a 120mm with I think either a 6 second reload It’s amazing

I remember when the E.B.R. 1954 first came out, at 4.7 (now 6.3), and it had a lineup with this M4A1 FL10 and the M4A4 SA50. Absolute god damn massacre, nothing could stop them.

Bought this tank last Bastille Day to help me grind through the low rank French tech tree and I've only now just started using it now on my Christmas holidays and I can say is its fantastic! It was when my first time using it when I managed to win 3v1 fight thanks to it's high pen fast reload that made me appreciate it.

The obvious/ best play seems obvious but is usually lost on new/younger players. It doesn’t help with the map/obj layout. There are times where it’s easier to go for the spawn than the obj. We desperately need new game modes honestly. Some kind of attack/defend mode or a historical battle mode where it’s period accurate tanks against each other in locations they actually fought.

@@keithrogers6876 definitely would be tricky to balance. If gaijin were to implement it I would hope they would just be open and transparent with what changes they were going to make to try to balance and just took community feedback.
What if Gaijin would make Caps a little larger and then give u a small amount of sl and/or rp while ur inside the captured cap. Maybe that way People would be inclined to stay on the caps?
Awesome video as always Mr OddBawZ, excellent brain entertainment while eating breakfast and having a cup of tea in the morning. Personally I see it as: - spawn camping: is driving around the edge of the map avoiding everything with the intention of shooting in to the enemy spawn point (total scumbag behavior, I am sad that the game rewards it). - spawn pushing: is actually playing the game and engaging in fights/taking caps/etc and the battle going in your favor to the point where you push them back to their spawn (you and/or your team mates have earned it). When playing with friends I have to sometimes remind them when they complain about "spawn camping already" that we have been playing for over 10 minutes already and the other team has pushed through all the caps and pushed our team back to the spawn. The only time I get slightly annoyed by the spawn push is when the enemy team is almost completely level 100 players all squaded up and driving around in KV1 & T34 (or KV 85 and T34 85) and just going full send while saying "low tier is fun tier" seems like a good way to lower the number of newer players playing War Thunder to me.. more power to them if that is what they enjoy, but personally I never feel like I have earned a good result when driving those vehicles (usually to help friends level up their USSR tech tree).. likely because of the at times utter nonsense armour overlaps and crazy good pen at extreme angles on those shells lol.
I noticed the other day that some of the maps actually got _smaller_ by the "out of bounds" getting pulled in. So lets see, instead of fixing the maps, Gaijin: 1. Broke traction modelling and introduced "mayonnaise" or "olive oil" terrain 2. Pulled the borders in on some maps, making them smaller. Yeah, that'll fix spawn camping. I'd love to see some new match modes, and make it like other FPS's where the caps become spawns (and of course the old maps need to be bigger). But I'd even take map edits where the spawns are somewhat protected from camping.
Some people are just wired a bit different when it comes to spawn camping. Ive got a friend that will just drive directly into the enemy spawn, regardless of whats happening with caps or tickets etc... and then cries and packs a little tanty when someone with spawn protection (in their own spawn) kills him. Theres no learning curve to this, its purely an instinctual action for him.

Game 1: from C I can hit that valley and have a nice viewpoint to approaching enemies while safe from A snipers and somewhat covered from planes. Holding A is still probably most important but if I'm in something without range...
I generally don't say something about spawncamping but I really hate when there are players who literally just go for that within the first 2 min of a game. I could burst out in flames when I die after like 3 min, respawn and immediately get shot in my spawn without the game really having started yet
the only bad thing about this FL-10 is after the auto loader is empty its a LONG time to reload all of them completely full. The next YT video with the P108 should be a riot 😀. Be awsome to see a Kv-2 bashing the enemy team YT vid

I thought war thunder was completely filled with toxic people except for youtuber bit yesterday I encountered a German main player like me who stuck with me through several games, offered me protection and spotted enemies. We repaired each other, pulled each other into cover. I wish this is how warthunder would be on average, it makes it so much more fun, even if you don't win! So be kind and at the very least don't call people bad names, it doesn't help anyone calling someone an idiot

My thing about spawn camping is that how it is now is entirely Gaijin's doing. There will be spawn camping in any game that there is spawning, and cutting off reinforcements is a legitimate job, but Gaijin has the tools to make it less frustrating and instead they encourage it in videos on their official channel while doing nothing. In my mind the hardest part would be map redesigns but otherwise making spawn camping less frustrating is pretty simple -- 1) Keep spawn radar but make it more obvious (particularly for new players) when an enemy is on it and more obvious to the enemy when they are on it. This could be as simple as an on screen exclamation point for the attacker and larger, non crew skill dependent, "look here" arrows similar to keen vision for the spawner pointing them where to look. 2) Don't just make spawn radar a radius but a custom painted area on each map/mode covering the blind corners close to spawn. I feel a player should be able to get about a grid square away from spawn with relative confidence and giving them that time and motion would greatly reduce frustration. 3) Enhance spawn radar so that if an enemy has line of sight in to spawn they are marked just like being in the spawn radar area; basically if they can see you blink in to existence they should be marked regardless of where they are on the map. 4) Map redesigns. You should never be able to fire in to spawn from an objective. You should never be able to fire in to an objective from spawn. And you should ABSOLUTELY NEVER be able to fire in to spawn from spawn. Spawn should be designed so that the spawner has every advantage and the attacker few. The fact some maps have spawns in an open field, on low ground, with no hard cover, and cover for the spawn attacker is honestly unforgivable. I make a conscious effort not to spawn camp but on some maps it is simply unavoidable - like those maps where you can literally be in the cap circle and firing in to the enemy spawn. I genuinely don't understand why Gaijin seems to be making no effort to combat it either when it is such a low hanging fruit to reduce new player turnover. It is Game Econ 101 that increasing player retention in a free to play game increases revenue. The players are your content and you need lots of them if you want your whales to keep investing. Nobody spends money on a game that feels "dead".
Yo Odd, I bet you will not read this but pleas try out the Churchill MK 7 and get at least 8 kills with it. The Tank itself is ok but the Post pen damage is like APCR from 2017
about spawn camping, sometimes it's like there's no choice... so many map have capture points completely in view of any spawn points, although some have some cover of some kind, many others doesn't, and what do you want to do? hell some map have vision from one spawn to the other. I don't like to spawn camp either, and I won't push to the enemy spawn (by that I mean I won't move to an area that would automatically reveal my position on the map), but I will cut off any access to the capture points I can because that game is kill or be killed.
ok, spawncamping is not against the rules but in that first game it was moving directly from your spawn to spawn camping only. Only shooting people that were in the way. Not even watching the rest of the map. Of course these can be prevented easily by gaijin putting more cover and 2 spawn points instead of 1. Aand not that much cover for spawncampers. This map is like designed to do this. The other spawn can be spawncamped from the hill.
when i get to a point where i have to spawn camp, i like to place myself in a place where i can be shot and not jsut hide and wait for spawn protection to go away, just seems fair like that
dude, you don't need to apologize. We all know you're in the top 5% of nicest WT players. I know, it's an introvert thing. But you're a good guy. You don't have to justify that you're a good guy all the time. Don't hyperfocus on the few negative comments. That's your brain psychology not being adapted for social media (you hyper focus on negative information, which would be a good thing if you were talking to a small community, not a billion possible users who never met you.) You're playing a videogame with bad game mechanics, not shooting child soldiers in real life--it's not a big deal.
Agreed; the only time I'm okay with being spawn-camped is when my team has been rolled back to spawn, the enemy is winning (ie 2-3/3 caps) and my team has crumbled. I'm not even mad, its fair game like that.
Had a match the other night and it ended up being me and one other guy on a two cap match. The vast majority of the rest of our team tapped out. A hard part of playing team games is you have to rely on teammates actually being teammates from time to time 😂😂 Ended up with a solid amount of RP and silver as a result but, would have been much more tasty had we have won. Shikataganai, ne (it cannot be helped, right?). Awesome video Odd. I'm playing the French lineup a little at the moment and I'm finding their solid rounds to be pretty lacking (compared to UK tree variety). I need to learn to focus on breech first shots more.
Spawncamping is never an issue since it sits on the developer's side as far as blaming goes. But if I see bushes on your tank, which are signs of a bad player, then you can bugger off - same as everyone else who uses them.
I would like to see WarThunder remove the spawn point system and see how battles play out. Because it looks to me that that is the big reason you have such lopsided fights overall.

The gun is good, but the tank is pretty meh. I noticed while playing around in this yesterday; at range the gun is hard to hit where you want it. Might just be a crew thing though.
There's a difference between spawn camping and spawn pushing. A spawn push happens after you have pushed your opposition back to their spawn point. That's just the nature of the game, in my opinion.
Stuff like that I don't mind because it means that we had a pretty bad team overall. For me it's that one or two individuals that sit in certain locations out of the spawn zone and shoot into your spawn with no way to stop it. Normandy for example, sit in the houses south of the western spawn zones and just rack up kills
its annoying playing tanks that have less mobility and trying to go uphill. im not a patient person so i would honestly rather die C or somewhere around the right side of B (from the side he spawned) than climb a stupid hill
KV-2's have been unbelievably resilient recently. It's become a regular occurrence to no-pen shots that should have penned twice over. I don't know what they changed, but it's definitely gotten worse.

Don't forget european province where you literally have 2 spawns about 2000m from eachother that look directly at eachother with no cover.

I remember when the E.B.R. 1954 first came out, at 4.7 (now 6.3), and it had a lineup with this M4A1 FL10 and the M4A4 SA50. Absolute god damn massacre, nothing could stop them.

Bought this tank last Bastille Day to help me grind through the low rank French tech tree and I've only now just started using it now on my Christmas holidays and I can say is its fantastic! It was when my first time using it when I managed to win 3v1 fight thanks to it's high pen fast reload that made me appreciate it.
I've had this tank for a very long time now and one thing you mustn't forget; its still an early M4.

It doesn’t help with the map/obj layout. There are times where it’s easier to go for the spawn than the obj. We desperately need new game modes honestly. Some kind of attack/defend mode or a historical battle mode where it’s period accurate tanks against each other in locations they actually fought.

Would that be in historical accurate numbers of the different types of vehicles (your team only gets this number of this specific vehicle), and some sides being outnumbered as well?
@@keithrogers6876 definitely would be tricky to balance. If gaijin were to implement it I would hope they would just be open and transparent with what changes they were going to make to try to balance and just took community feedback.

The mapscale and spawn layout for that first map has needed tweaked and/or increased for sometime now imo.
What if Gaijin would make Caps a little larger and then give u a small amount of sl and/or rp while ur inside the captured cap. Maybe that way People would be inclined to stay on the caps?

Awesome video as always Mr OddBawZ, excellent brain entertainment while eating breakfast and having a cup of tea in the morning.
Personally I see it as:
- spawn camping: is driving around the edge of the map avoiding everything with the intention of shooting in to the enemy spawn point (total scumbag behavior, I am sad that the game rewards it).
- spawn pushing: is actually playing the game and engaging in fights/taking caps/etc and the battle going in your favor to the point where you push them back to their spawn (you and/or your team mates have earned it).
When playing with friends I have to sometimes remind them when they complain about "spawn camping already" that we have been playing for over 10 minutes already and the other team has pushed through all the caps and pushed our team back to the spawn.
The only time I get slightly annoyed by the spawn push is when the enemy team is almost completely level 100 players all squaded up and driving around in KV1 & T34 (or KV 85 and T34 85) and just going full send while saying "low tier is fun tier" seems like a good way to lower the number of newer players playing War Thunder to me.. more power to them if that is what they enjoy, but personally I never feel like I have earned a good result when driving those vehicles (usually to help friends level up their USSR tech tree).. likely because of the at times utter nonsense armour overlaps and crazy good pen at extreme angles on those shells lol.
I noticed the other day that some of the maps actually got _smaller_ by the "out of bounds" getting pulled in. So lets see, instead of fixing the maps, Gaijin:
1. Broke traction modelling and introduced "mayonnaise" or "olive oil" terrain
2. Pulled the borders in on some maps, making them smaller.
Yeah, that'll fix spawn camping. I'd love to see some new match modes, and make it like other FPS's where the caps become spawns (and of course the old maps need to be bigger). But I'd even take map edits where the spawns are somewhat protected from camping.
I actually ended up picking this thing up. Loads of fun! Well done, my friend.

Some people are just wired a bit different when it comes to spawn camping. Ive got a friend that will just drive directly into the enemy spawn, regardless of whats happening with caps or tickets etc... and then cries and packs a little tanty when someone with spawn protection (in their own spawn) kills him. Theres no learning curve to this, its purely an instinctual action for him.

Some good fights can happen there and it's easy points for you if the enemy is ignoring it.

Game 1: from C I can hit that valley and have a nice viewpoint to approaching enemies while safe from A snipers and somewhat covered from planes. Holding A is still probably most important but if I'm in something without range...

I generally don't say something about spawncamping but I really hate when there are players who literally just go for that within the first 2 min of a game. I could burst out in flames when I die after like 3 min, respawn and immediately get shot in my spawn without the game really having started yet

the only bad thing about this FL-10 is after the auto loader is empty its a LONG time to reload all of them completely full. The next YT video with the P108 should be a riot 😀. Be awsome to see a Kv-2 bashing the enemy team YT vid

I thought war thunder was completely filled with toxic people except for youtuber bit yesterday I encountered a German main player like me who stuck with me through several games, offered me protection and spotted enemies. We repaired each other, pulled each other into cover. I wish this is how warthunder would be on average, it makes it so much more fun, even if you don't win!
So be kind and at the very least don't call people bad names, it doesn't help anyone calling someone an idiot

I bought this tank (2990 GE) after you recommended it while watching the video to help me start my french tech tree grind.
P108 is a beast. At the right speed (slow) and angle (shallow dive) the shots are like a laser. The longest range kill I've had with it is 4km.
These and the other french oscillating turret tanks always make me think of the tanks in Star Wars hehe.

When I saw the German flag on the T-34 747 (r), I immediately thought that must be Tank_Nr_56 and was confirmed by the killfeed shortly afterwards.
I was on the team who he was spawn camping hahahaha I was so pissed durning this, the whole time me and my team mates had no clue where this guy was hahahaha
I saw my team mates shooting at the panther and I thought that was the guy who was spawn camping, I thought my team mates killed him then I turned to go towards B the got shit on, I was so pissed

The problem with pushing C is the first team to get to C and cause the other to traffic jam on either of those roads.
My thing about spawn camping is that how it is now is entirely Gaijin's doing. There will be spawn camping in any game that there is spawning, and cutting off reinforcements is a legitimate job, but Gaijin has the tools to make it less frustrating and instead they encourage it in videos on their official channel while doing nothing. In my mind the hardest part would be map redesigns but otherwise making spawn camping less frustrating is pretty simple --
1) Keep spawn radar but make it more obvious (particularly for new players) when an enemy is on it and more obvious to the enemy when they are on it. This could be as simple as an on screen exclamation point for the attacker and larger, non crew skill dependent, "look here" arrows similar to keen vision for the spawner pointing them where to look.
2) Don't just make spawn radar a radius but a custom painted area on each map/mode covering the blind corners close to spawn. I feel a player should be able to get about a grid square away from spawn with relative confidence and giving them that time and motion would greatly reduce frustration.
3) Enhance spawn radar so that if an enemy has line of sight in to spawn they are marked just like being in the spawn radar area; basically if they can see you blink in to existence they should be marked regardless of where they are on the map.
4) Map redesigns. You should never be able to fire in to spawn from an objective. You should never be able to fire in to an objective from spawn. And you should ABSOLUTELY NEVER be able to fire in to spawn from spawn. Spawn should be designed so that the spawner has every advantage and the attacker few. The fact some maps have spawns in an open field, on low ground, with no hard cover, and cover for the spawn attacker is honestly unforgivable.
I make a conscious effort not to spawn camp but on some maps it is simply unavoidable - like those maps where you can literally be in the cap circle and firing in to the enemy spawn. I genuinely don't understand why Gaijin seems to be making no effort to combat it either when it is such a low hanging fruit to reduce new player turnover. It is Game Econ 101 that increasing player retention in a free to play game increases revenue. The players are your content and you need lots of them if you want your whales to keep investing. Nobody spends money on a game that feels "dead".

Literally EBR/Jakpz/DF105 at significantly lower BR. Only downside is solid shot. Thing is pretty solid up to 7.3 though.

about spawn camping, sometimes it's like there's no choice... so many map have capture points completely in view of any spawn points, although some have some cover of some kind, many others doesn't, and what do you want to do? hell some map have vision from one spawn to the other.
I don't like to spawn camp either, and I won't push to the enemy spawn (by that I mean I won't move to an area that would automatically reveal my position on the map), but I will cut off any access to the capture points I can because that game is kill or be killed.

ok, spawncamping is not against the rules but in that first game it was moving directly from your spawn to spawn camping only. Only shooting people that were in the way.
Not even watching the rest of the map. Of course these can be prevented easily by gaijin putting more cover and 2 spawn points instead of 1. Aand not that much cover for spawncampers. This map is like designed to do this. The other spawn can be spawncamped from the hill.

when i get to a point where i have to spawn camp, i like to place myself in a place where i can be shot and not jsut hide and wait for spawn protection to go away, just seems fair like that
dude, you don't need to apologize. We all know you're in the top 5% of nicest WT players. I know, it's an introvert thing. But you're a good guy. You don't have to justify that you're a good guy all the time. Don't hyperfocus on the few negative comments. That's your brain psychology not being adapted for social media (you hyper focus on negative information, which would be a good thing if you were talking to a small community, not a billion possible users who never met you.) You're playing a videogame with bad game mechanics, not shooting child soldiers in real life--it's not a big deal.
Agreed; the only time I'm okay with being spawn-camped is when my team has been rolled back to spawn, the enemy is winning (ie 2-3/3 caps) and my team has crumbled. I'm not even mad, its fair game like that.

Had a match the other night and it ended up being me and one other guy on a two cap match. The vast majority of the rest of our team tapped out.
A hard part of playing team games is you have to rely on teammates actually being teammates from time to time 😂😂
Ended up with a solid amount of RP and silver as a result but, would have been much more tasty had we have won.

I'm playing the French lineup a little at the moment and I'm finding their solid rounds to be pretty lacking (compared to UK tree variety). I need to learn to focus on breech first shots more.

Spawncamping is never an issue since it sits on the developer's side as far as blaming goes. But if I see bushes on your tank, which are signs of a bad player, then you can bugger off - same as everyone else who uses them.

The gun is good, but the tank is pretty meh. I noticed while playing around in this yesterday; at range the gun is hard to hit where you want it. Might just be a crew thing though.
There's a difference between spawn camping and spawn pushing. A spawn push happens after you have pushed your opposition back to their spawn point. That's just the nature of the game, in my opinion.
Stuff like that I don't mind because it means that we had a pretty bad team overall. For me it's that one or two individuals that sit in certain locations out of the spawn zone and shoot into your spawn with no way to stop it. Normandy for example, sit in the houses south of the western spawn zones and just rack up kills

KV-2's have been unbelievably resilient recently. It's become a regular occurrence to no-pen shots that should have penned twice over. I don't know what they changed, but it's definitely gotten worse.
