Oh this was wonderful. Brought back so many memories. My Dad raised pigs on the side in Santa Maria for extra income, his job was as a chef for a number of years and also as a bartender. He was always called upon in matanças to take care of the “hog”, both in Portugal and here in Toronto. I’d sometimes go with him and whoever was buying the pig to the farm here in Canada (this in the 60’s & 70’s)… I can still hear the pigs squealing madly as they were being slaughtered. Lord a mercy! I loved the gathering of people at whose ever house was doing the matança. The food, the dancing! the laughter, hard work…..we all contributed, old and young! I was a young girl of 8 when we came. Gosh I miss that era and miss my parents greatly.
This was absolutely fabulous!! Loved seeing my Portuguese heritage in food and celebration. Please keep doing what you do, it will keep the Portuguese traditions alive in Canada and the GTA. Thank You! Obrigada!! Viva Portugal!!

Nancy, do you help out in the kitchen for events? Do you remember Senhora Lurdes Moniz who used help out as well?
Hi, yes I do occasionally. I will be at another few events in the coming months. I do know her. She is my aunts sister in law.
@@diywithnancyg1502 my wife was from Oakville and lived with her aunt (Lurdes Moniz), you might even know my wife.
I have been sharing your youtube videos on my site and on my Facebook group but had no idea you were from Oakville or even Canada for that matter.
Thank you so much, I appreciate your support and sharing my videos.😊I'm from Toronto, Ontario.
@@diywithnancyg1502 very cool, I didn't even know you were from Canada.
Love to see yor God mother.
Thank you🥰
