as much as Isobels AI is lacking the taking 2 opportunity attacks wasnt her downfall (only 1 of which actually hit) It was the paralysis condition from the devil on the ice floor that sealed her fate. Giving marcus the guaranteed crit, I think without that she easily survives the next round
Marcus is one of the biggest dangers during Last Light fight - everybody else is undead, therefore easily "turned" by Isobel. But that guy? He literally triggered two opportunity attacks from the party - just to get his main target. As soon as you take him out, Isobel can stand her ground just fine (even with her abysmal AC of 11). Still, the main threat (from my point of view)? The possibility of walking into the fight completely unprepared. First time it happened I had half of health and most abilities were depleted. Because I wanted to chat with locals, get quests, explore the inn - and rest before venturing back into the cursed lands. "Nah, we have much better idea of a relaxing time" said devs and threw me into the mini-boss fight. Well, to be fair, it was perfectly reasonable for an ambush/betrayal situation.
Well atleast the child he left for the harpies as a decoy to escape, Scratchy the dog that he swears he only "knocked out" & the owlbears will have company in bg heaven. With this I'm certain that his body count exceeds the Absolutes, I just hope they can stop him and save what's left of Faerun. Just imagen the horrors he will "accidentily" inflict upon Baulders gate itself.
I had a similar stroke of bad luck with Isobel and her AI the first time I did that fight. “Luckily”, I wiped in the fight after and got a redo. Popped scroll of invis on her and mopped everything up.
As a cleric of Selune, Isobel should have Sanctuary. If they just gave her that spell and had her AI cast it at the start of the battle, it completely changes how the fight would go. It would still be tough, and you still might lose people, but as it is you either have to get very lucky or be lucky enough to have a ton of DPS in your party when you visit her. I was spoiled, so I went in with two barbarians, a fighter and Gale. So we just melted his health that first turn. But without that, I probably would have lost Isobel too.
Any decently leveled party just wrecks marcus though, he's really not that strong. And quite weak to CC. He usually never gets a turn in my playthroughs.
Up until this point in the game we've had pretty close to the same results. However, I was able to keep Isobel in Last Light alive and killed the turned Fist guy. It was interesting to see a new outcome.
I didn't even know you could fail this fight. Isobel was super smart in my fight and went into the corner of the main room and just went on the defensive. Karlach and Gale made that dude with the wings their b*tch.
I actually had to heal her a couple of times, and ran some Attacks of Opportunity on purpose to move my own mages. Sanctuary is good to have for emergencies no matter the context, tbh. Good for protecting glasscannons.
