How sad that Malaysia decided to tighten its financial requirements for the MM2H program. Few foreigners can qualify so they will retire, invest and spend their money in other countries. Even if they relax the requirements in the future, who will trust the government to honor the program anymore?
Yes, it is indeed sad, Linda. We know of people who had to move out of Malaysia because they no longer qualify for the new criterias. To be then told that the new rules do not apply for renewals. However that being said, one can really enjoy a great life in Malaysia, so there's always some element of risk involved each time one decides to relocate, regardless of the type of visa.

The costs are for one person. The reason why we say one half of a couple is because there are a lot of shared costs /resources like house, cooking costs.
My friend, in my opinion your budget conscious n average retiree cost is way out from what is actually needed. Budget conscious you listed Food at RM600 and Rent at RM1200. RM600 can be achieved with no eat outs. Home cooking all the time. Rental RM1200 way too high. Perhaps for RM650, can rent a two rooms flat. And for your average retiree, RM1200 for food is reasonable. This retiree has space for eat outs n perhaps some low end entertainment. But RM2000 for rental is way too high. For around RM1000 can get a decent apartment. By the way I have been staying in Penang for more than 50 years.
Our budget is actually very realistic and on the ground. It is unrealistic to expect people, especially ones who are early retired in their 40s and 50s to not eat out in cafes or restaurants. We are advocating a lifestyle which is not super lavish or over the top but realistic of a middle income person. Not forgetting people who opt to retire early in Malaysia do have a certain purchasing power, perhaps from passive income from investments or because of their income in a foreign currency which is superior to the Ringgit. One cannot assume that once one is retired, one needs to be frugal until one is no longer in this world.
M'sia gov is milking on the retirees. No one can earn an income as a retiree with RM 40k/mth. It makes no sense at all. Also if you need RM1.5mln plus RM 1.0 mln deposit, only super rich retirees can find some where else in southern Europe to retire.

@@corporatebreakoutcouple Thank you very much.
What else can one do after 2 exciting years retiring there? When we are 43 yrso.... or 58 yrso?
We love this question!
Malaysia is a big country. You can travel extensively to each state and explore each state's unique offerings. You can also travel to other Asian countries as they are easily accessible. Malaysia is a country blessed with lots of culture, nature trails, mountains, excellent food and tons of outdoor activities. If one is the more indoor type, Malaysian malls are very large, air conditioned and plenty of things to see, shop and do in the malls.
We've been in Penang for 1 year and we've hardly scratched the surface. There is always something new to explore /eat /visit.
Hows the short term rental availability there in Penang? Say 3 to 4 months? Is it illegally?
No problem at all. There are Airbnbs and also short term rentals available

May I ask if u have kids? Because with kids the considerations will be hugely different?
We don't have kids. However we've interviewed a few people on our channel with kids and they too retired when they were in their 40s, when the kids were still young and in school. Do check the videos out under the Ordinary People Extraordinary Stories series
actually there is another way to retire in penang with just 2k income, u need to be a malaysian
You are a Singaporean, can you drive malaysia's car (Not Rental car)?
Can! As long as you pay cash for the car, you can own one in Malaysia and pump RON95 (because the car is registered in Malaysia)
10:20 if u r a digital nomad working to earn at least 24kusd/annum then its not actually retiring, right?
Please share with us your idea /definition of retiring.
Once you retire, do you intend to just sit at home all day to watch TV? To us, that is a sure way to an early grave.
@@corporatebreakoutcouple i mean if a person is already a digital nomad and s/he wants to retire fromthat lifestyle........my idea would be maybe do sth else.....volunteer work... or voluntarily running a philanthropic organisation
@@ibraheemali9541 definitely! We too do charity work in Singapore and Penang. However it does take money to do charity work. We donate our time and money. And the more money we make, the more we can donate and give back. The beauty of creating businesses like digital business is the passive income that it brings in. Having this business then allows one to apply for a digital nomad visa.
@@corporatebreakoutcouple thanks and i agree......godspeed !! you two are a true inspiration !!
Penang is known as the Pearl of the Orient, the only habitable paradise or haven on this planet, or the extent to which the universe is fine-tuning its expansion or our network is accelerating to its end. We do not wish for birth and death, the choice is ours when we reach our desire to retire in heaven.
Hello, how is health insurance for foreigners?
Usually foreigners will buy their own insurance from their home country (that's what we do as well)
Best to speak to an insurance agent on other coverage
@@corporatebreakoutcouple thanks for your information.
How is the malaria infection rate there??
As of what we know, there are zero reports of malaria in the state of Penang island right now
20:09 all these costs are for one person or a family of two?
The costs are for one person. The reason why we say one half of a couple is because there are a lot of shared costs /resources like house, cooking costs.
@@corporatebreakoutcouple anhan ok got it ...thanks alot
I think I can live well with $2,000 USD a month.
For one person, yes you certainly can!
How much cost for a couple per month?
@@averylong9200 the answer is in the video
Financial planning is very important when you are young. Otherwise you still need to work after 60.
Yes, precisely. Super Important
M'sia gov is milking on the retirees. No one can earn an income as a retiree with RM 40k/mth. It makes no sense at all. Also if you need RM1.5mln plus RM 1.0 mln deposit, only super rich retirees can find some where else in southern Europe to retire.
Yes, it is super limiting with the current requirements.
@@corporatebreakoutcouple I heard many had moved out of west M'sia heading to East M'sia with easier option. The gov is killing the economy.
Omg then what's the point of leaving the US?
MALAYSIA GOV DID NOT LET MM2H PEOPLE TO RETURN TO MALAYSIA WHEN PENDAMIC. MOST MM2H PEOPLE LEFT MALAYSIA.
Yes, that's true
Ridiclous requirements - Thailand, Bali much more sensible
One can always apply for the digital nomad visa in Malaysia. Only require USD24k per annum income

1 half! What the fok is that?
That's the right way to calculate cost of living. One half of a couple.
