This is a good topic especially in our current inflationary environment. Some of my personal tips: 1. Don't shop at atas supermarket like C****storage or Fa**price finest because for the same items, they are usually higher than Fair price or Sheng Siong, unless the items are only available in the atas supermarket. 2. Buy what I need to avoid wastage (especially perishable items). 3. Shop in JB (if possible), especially some household cleaning items, some off the shelves medication. 4. If possible, bundle your purchase with friends or neighbour to save for everyone.
Ways to save money, usually this is a sacrifice in quality of life.. but the more important thing is to differentiate between needs and wants, an easy way is to see how much time you spend your whole life(as a must) on what you are planning to buy, like you can choose to gamble, play games, technically you can choose to smoke or drink alcohol but you cannot choose to not eat your daily meals, plain water, sleep or exercise if you want to live a long healthy life, these are a must to spend on as a form of investment, holiday travel trips are not a must
Preparing own meals, especially if it's for a family with kids, is way cheaper and the most effective way of cutting down monthly expenses. And that's even if you go for premium meats/vegs/condiments etc. You'll enjoy much higher quality ingredients at a lower cost vs take out/outside food. As for taste, of course you can't compare to the complex dishes by chefs but simply tasty meals can be done by most people if you watch enough RUclips. Most of food outside are cooked with very unhealthy palm oil, as that is dirt cheap for the businesses. If you cook your own meal, you can buy the most atas olive oil and still save money vs eating out.
I just sold my OnCloud sports shoes yesterday at half the price over at Carousell. Within few hours, it was snapped up. The buyer is happy cos it is still as new since only wore twice. I bought stuff too at half the normal price.
Another way of saving money, which is not widely practiced by Singaporeans, is self-cooking. I guess is bcs food courts & hawker stalls below HDBs are super affordable. Self-cooking has helped me save a significant amount, and here's why: A plate of economy rice in KL costs around MYR15, while in Singapore, it only costs around SGD 5. Imagine making 3000/month without considering currency conversion. People living in Singapore would definitely be more comfortable when calculated at a 1:1 ratio. This situation forces Malaysians, especially those working in KL, to cook their own meals. My two cents on surviving in KL with a 3K salary + Upcoming 8% SST 1. Cook your own meals 2. Find a better job in Singapore

Yes, needs vs wants is the first thing to nail down!

And you teach your kids to enjoy home-cooked food too!

Definitely! Cooking at home saves quite a bit of money. But some people don't have the time to prep, cook, and clean.

Stop buying shit you don't need. Reminder for myself too
The background sound and echo in this episode was bad. The Sound quality feels like the recording was done in a big hall..
Sorry about the audio issues!
