Kelly, what’s your favorite handheld light for inspecting white painted cars mate? I have a scan grip headlamp but it’s not cutting the mustard to really see the defects.

Ouch! Key scratches are evil and unfortunately may require a re-paint to resolve. As a rule, if you can catch your fingernail in a scratch it's unlikely it can be removed without going through the clearcoat, or at least significantly risking that. You can look at it another way though - if you accept you're very likely to need a re-paint, there's not much to lose by at least trying to polish the scratch out. We did this on a customer's Aston Martin at the UK workshop a few years ago. It had been keyed twice around the entire car in a circle but, on that occasion, fortunately it had enough clearcoat that we were able to save it.
