    People need to realise that not everyone with OCD has a fear of germs only. It can manifest itself in many ways. Everyone is different. The fact that his room is messy is irrelevant and rather an ignorant comment. Do your research before leaving comments like that.

      Looks like there needs to be more awareness about ocd and all mental illness in general. No titan is right ocd can manifest itself in many different ways. You can be really messy and even neglect chores and still have severe ocd.

  • @Netgear600

    For the people saying that for a person with OCD his room is really messy, there are different types of OCD, you don't have to have anxiety about a messy room to have OCD.

    Anyone here with OCD I am terribly sorry. I have been diagnosed with it for 5 years and have been on 4 different medications with 4 different therapists. People don't know what it's like to actually suffer in this world. They worry about stuff that goes on around them but nothing near what we suffer with

    does anyone else have that annoying trait where they touch something and it just feels...wrong?? so you keep touching it again until it feels right? And when you can't touch it again it just makes you crazy? :( If I can't touch that certain thing again I start pulling at my hand and rubbing them to help the sort of "pain"

    • @ravikanth7167
      @ravikanth7167 8 лет назад

      ya i feel the same :(

    • @lpsstarlight2207
      @lpsstarlight2207 8 лет назад +1

      ***** for me it didn't happen too often, but when it did, I wouldn't be able to stop until I've touched it hundreds of times (no exaggeration there) But when I can't touch it again I will go INSANE. Once when I was little I was in a store with my parents, and I picked up something off the shelf and had to put it back because we were leaving, I put it down totally wrong (?¿) and I couldn't fix it cuz my mom had grabbed me and we left. So the rest of the car ride home, I was pulling at the skin of my hands and rubbing them against each other, even bitting them. By the time we got home I had a huge burn and different bite marks all over my hands. This still happens now when I'm like 15 years old, but not with the biting part, and I stop before I can physically injure my hand, and just shake my hands out

Things I do are not to step on cracks (only when I notice, when I do I get pissed) and when thinks go slowly back and forth I get really anxious and I start tapping things fast or I hear screaming and hollering and I also can never have the volume anything other than the intervals of 5.

      OCD is a serious condition, it can put large amounts of stress on people, leading to the possibility of random bursts of aggression, depression and what a majority of people would consider odd behavioural patterns, its not a healthy thing to have in your life.

    My life with OCD really pulls the trigger out of me! I mean for goodness sake,I've spent almost ours just to make sure I have touched everything inside the house including the ceiling.And not just that,I'm trying to make sure that my hands are clean. And if I hold my right hand,I also have to hold my left hand and vice versa.I also have to touch the switch inside the house 4 times because if I don't,something terrible is going to happen.One time when I was excessively worried about dread and my death, my anxiety attack me more than a day,my family was so worried and they thought I was experiencing mild stroke by that time.Until now my OCDs ruining my life,including my daily activities and my duties inside the house and inside the campus.And even now,I have to type this correctly because I find it hard to resist it,so much...

    What has worked to help you? My 19 year old daughter has severeocd, and isn't willing to get psychiatric care at the moment although she has in the past, and was diagnosed with OCD. very very hard to live with her, but i have total empathy for her because I struggled with OCD too. AT one point she was taking 6 hour showers and still spends a lot of time in the bathroom hand-washing etc What would you recommend? ANy ideas are helpful, thank you. People don't get that OCD is a fear of being out of control in many ways.

    I have COD as well. Although I don't have the same symptoms it can still be quite bothersome. And disruptive as well. I've only known about my OCD since 2009 or 2010. So it's still fairly new to me. Some of my symptoms include compulsive hand washing and bathing, compulsively cleaning my home. Every thing has to be just right or I go nutsoid. Especially in my kitchen. Do not let me catch you putting things in the wrong place or the wrong order. I may well go postal if I do catch you. I do have times where it is not nearly as bad. But it is always there. And it gets worse when I'm under stress and feeling really scared. I'm really glad I watched your video. It was really good and I really identified with it. What l really liked the end because it showed that you have hope, and hope is so important. I hope to see more of your videos because they are really good. Thank you. Jude

    Do any of you understand that OCD is a serious mental illness about negative thoughts which makes you feel the need to do unnecessary compulsions that stop the negative things from happening that make no sense but to someone with OCD it does make sense it annoys the shit out of me when people say I have OCD when really they are just perfectionists when really you don't understand the everyday struggle that someone has to deal with I have had OCD for over three years and I will tell you it has been hell I have had all sorts of negative thoughts harm to a loved one that really was the start of it all I have had some really bad ones it's scary so please don't say that you have OCD when you don't

    I just wanted to say that I found your video both extremely interesting and inspirational! I was diagnosed with mild OCD a few months ago so I know somewhat of what you are going through on an every day basis. My OCD have more to do with social interaction instead of environmental interaction. I have extreme trouble making/keeping friends and maintaining a relationship with a guy just because I also find something about them that drives me crazy. Just remember you are never alone!

  • @gabrielagonzalezGil

    i cant handle odd numbers, i was diagnosed and one more thing, if you have OCD then how comes your room is messy? i can't see my room disorganised i have to clean it also i have ticks and if i burn a bit of my right hand i have to burn the same bit on my left, to make it feel equal its so stressing!!

    • @talianicole5421
      @talianicole5421 8 лет назад

      +Speedy Gonzalez I have severe OCD. I take 4 different pills for OCD and what OCD has caused me. OCD is not about being organized and cleaning your room. Yes, society has made it look like a cute little quirk one should have if say, they always like their room clean, or if you don't like odd numbers. OCD is thinking if you do not touch an object 14 times on each hand, something bad will happen. It is a non-stopping thought that you will kill your best friend, even though you love them and would never purposely hurt them. It is thinking if you do not know how many hours you slept, you will die or get insomnia. OCD is not about your room being clean. So before you say something you think you have because you simply are a perfectionist who likes a clean room, please educate yourself.

  • @ninjanerdstudent6937
    @ninjanerdstudent6937 8 лет назад +1

    Worrying about being too skinny in our society is not a problem most people feel. It's usually the other side that society would, in general, form obsessions about and then be compelled to do the compulsions (actions). I had it much worse as a child with OCD. I have developed my own coping mechanisms over the years. For example, being in public and surrounding myself around people prevents me from doing the compulsions and I end up following the social norms. Obtaining more education is my other coping mechanism as well as meeting new people. Just keep yourself so busy in life that you have no time to think about these day to day obsessions. OCD has a ton to do with superstitions. Originally, I just closed my eyes and told myself "everything is fine, nothing bad would happen by changing routine", then I proved it to myself by switching up routine, like testing a hypothesis to myself. If you are not able to cope like many of us can, just go for the drugs.

    I have to do things in twos. I can't eat just one banana, I must eat two or I get anxious. I have to boil the kettle twice before making coffee, with two spoons of powder, two splashes of milk and two spoons of sugar. I go upstairs two at a time, and the number of steps I walk from the landing to my bedroom must always be even. I also must always know what time it is. I am diagnosed autistic but so far nobody thinks I have OCD. Do I have it? Or am I just being a typical Aspie?

    Eric Medina, you have a real gift! You probably know that. People have a hard time understanding OCD and its different forms and you did a great job giving people a feel for your own experience with it. As I read through the many comments in response to your film, I see that there are many young people questioning if they "have OCD" or not. I am a social worker and professor and I just want to say that people should reach out for help if they need it or think they need it. I am acquainted with OCD and know that people can be helped. There are many myths about OCD and what it is and there are many variants and degrees of severity. OCD can make people feel that they are strange in some way, but they are not--many people (and kids) have this problem. It waxes and wanes and sometimes can even go away over time. In fact, people with OCD are often highly intelligent and creative, from what I have learned about it, so OCD might be a price of sorts for having other gifts and talents! No one goes through life without encountering challenges and OCD is just one of the many kinds of challenges people can face. My advice is to seek help and not let yourself hide! BTW, Eric, I have shown your film to my graduate social work students who feel that they learned a lot about OCD from it. Thank you for your courage in sharing your experience with others--it helps to diminish stigma and increases public awareness.

    I've gone a long time learning about different things and gaining awareness about issues such as OCD, because I hope to help people who are struggling with it. Little did I recognize that after all of the times I've gotten in trouble for being "unorganized" , rushing (after spending obscene amounts of time in the mirrow changing clothes) that I struggle with OCD as well. Thanks for this video, I see alot myself in it.

    Two sugggestions for you...Have you tried timing yourself on tasks to see if you can reduce time spent on repetitive behaviour, ie. set time limits? Also, challenging yourself to let lesser somethings BE (in the wrong place or not quite perfect in some way). Over time this can assist in desensitizing your anxiety. Some tasks/situations are more controllable than others. Maybe experiment and see?? These things can help, although timing stuff can take on a life too, lol !! All the best to you :)

    Thank you for uploading this, you are very brave. The one problem I had though was right after you washed your hands you touched the sink handle which re-contaminates your hands and you did not wash them over. So you basically just washed your hands and unwashed them instantaneously.

    This is really good especially the ending. It really got to me. I have OCD that is probably the reason why.

    @MrJediAres OCD was killing me too. My life was consumed with rituals for everything..and I mean EVERYTHING. From handwashing to counting, to double checking that doors were locked, appliances turned off. I got to a point where I thought, if I dont get help now I am going to end up either involuntarily checked into the psych ward or suicide. After working my way thru it I can now say that I finally have my life back..you can do it too man. Stay positive, it'll all work out :)

    Am I crazy for thinking that it feels wrong to have the row with two mozzarella stick and both be on one side? If I had a row of two like that, then I would feel the need to place one on the left and one on the right.

    Yeah, it is similar with me. I almost always have to have all the doors in the house firmly closed and any doors accessing the outside locked (and checked at least 3 times). I also like to have all the lights off except for one (no more than that) if a person in the room (also partially due to my urge of not wanting to waste electrical energy).

    Me too :( But you have the power to change it and get it to a stage where it doesn't affect you as much anymore. It is possible. Have you seen Mark Freeman's youtube channel? He is a case of someone who has fought his way through OCD and has great motivating videos and tips to get it under control

    Of OCD was a person I'd yell at the top of my lungs, "Fuck you!!!". I'd threaten OCD, "Let me enjoy my life!!! I just want to enjoy The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim like everyone else!!!".

    Lol the arranging part like the cabinet, my brother does that, but it's like, if no one is watching t.v. he turns the volume down or he always has to put the toilet seat down and if he sees something unfinished or not right like the carpet being folded up, he will fix it... To me it gets a little annoying lol

    Thanks for the video I have minor ocd like when I write it has to be a certain position I don't like dots spread all about and only sometimes something has to be set down an even number not odd. This happens not often and it doesn't really affect me

    0:55 it bothers me the time doesn't go by fivesssss ugh. I count everything to make sure it goes by fives. Like words in a sentence. Walking to the bus is hardest for me, because of the sidewalk, certain colors and crossing the streets and stuff. What shoe I put on first, how I tie it. Color order, and alphabetized order. I like everything to be by fives, sometimes I count things I do by fives or else I have to add or subtract from it.

    I have OCD too and I need to hve everything on an even number . Doesn't matter if it's the volume of something brightness , just has to be even . Also if I'm itchy on my left arm I scratch my right arm too!

    Reggie, I'm a 45 year old woman who lives with ocd, since I was 10 years old. Checking, rechecking locks, turning on and off sinks, switching on and off light switches until right, checking my car is lock all the time. Making sure everything in its place, when I get home from work. Making sure all the dishes are clean right. I know what your going through.

    I understand the number thing. Uneven numbers seem more even to me because there is an exact middle. Like 3 should be half of 5 because it is directly in the middle.
